Pentagon Safety Measure Requires President To Identify Nation On Map Before Nuking It is the title of a short article found on the Christian satirical news website babylonbee.com. This short article may be just a joke, but it addresses a very important topic that affects our nation and the world as a whole. It addresses the very nature of our president Donald Trump. Specifically, his unpredictability and views in regard to international matters and nuclear weapons. This article shows this by coming up with a way the pentagon has prevented Trump’s attempts to nuke our enemies. While some people think nuking our enemies is the answer, the fact is it would likely plunge the world into a nuclear war and greatly harm the environment of Earth and …show more content…
Once again, the unnamed author has made a valiant effort toward ethos. There may be no names involved, but it could also be interpreted that the author didn’t want to give away the identity of the “Pentagon insiders” (babylonbee.com). The pathos in this is once again urgent and concerning. The author uses the words “grim” and “death via nuclear winter” to establish this (babylonbee.com). The author uses these words to push his or her scare tactic further to get the audience to recognize the importance of the message being presented. The logos in this statement is still seen in regard to nuclear weapons and Trump. The words “death via nuclear winter” establishes the threat to our safety and the claim that the new defense has stopped Trump “’at least five times already’”, brings the message that this threat to our lives could result from an action from President Trump (babylonbee.com). Trump has been in office less than a year and he has supposedly tried to launch nuclear weapons a minimum of five times already. That seems like a lot for such a short period of time, and gives Trump an image of unpredictability in the use of nuclear weapons. Given that the only thing that stopped him is an “unlabeled map of the world”, his unpredictability is concreted because …show more content…
After doing some research it becomes apparent that this concern is well founded. An article on the Washington Post, written by senior political author Aaron Blake, and titled Trump’s loose talk on nuclear weapons suddenly becomes very real, does a good job of expanding upon concerns regarding Trump. The first thing to pay attention too is that the article claims, “Trump had spoken openly in the preceding meeting with national security leaders about a return to a Cold War footing with nuclear weapons — what would amount to about a tenfold increase” (washingtonpost.com). The article also talks about Trump’s adoption of the “’madman strategy’ in which you make your foes believe you are capable of pretty much anything” (washingtonpost.com). Trump wants to increase nuclear stockpile, and be unpredictable towards international conflicts, the problem with these things is that it raises tensions around the world and goes against progress that had been made towards world peace and lowering nuclear stock piles. How does this affect Southerners though? It is really simple: the rising of international tensions and the idea of a larger nuclear stockpile could lead us closer to a major war that would result in the complete mobilization of our military and the possibility of the draft. A major war would greatly impact our
In addition to defining “unity” in a certain way, Bush also offers a type of what David Zarefsky calls “frame shifting”. Former President Bush asserts that the government is at heightened security, and it is not simply “business as usual”. “Yet he also says we must go forward and not allow the attackers to restrict our freedoms or challenge our way of
The cartoon is implying that national defense is not the way to go about things if war is imminent, instead the US should take action while they can against the Axis Powers in Europe. The Cartoon is titled “Pattern for Disaster” which means if the US continues to follow these isolationist ideals things will only end badly
However, he didn't want to abandon all nuclear weapons; he wanted to stockpile them which would convince other countries not to mess with us. He goes on to tell the United Nations that he has no intentions
Pearl Harbor was a surprise terrorist attack on U.S soil from a foreign country, Japan. This attack happen when Japan was messing with China. Japan wanted to take over parts of China and try to take its import markets. The U.S was unhappy for the way of Japan treating with China therefore, the United states put trade embargoes on Japan. The United States told Japan to stop.
But Similar to what Nixon did years ago, Trump is trying to appear as the wildcard. The one who will do anything to protect his country even if it means having to destroy North Korea. He sent these threats out via tweets for the world to see, and it
Maureen Dowd 's central focus in her column "Will The Blowhard Blow Us Up?" is the tension between two leaders and the probability of a nuclear war. The hostile exchange of words between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and our president caused citizens an understandable amount of concern. Dowd shows her distaste of Trumps actions by including a quote from an interview with Trump biographer Michael D 'Antonio.
To begin with, when I first saw Richard Notkins piece “All Nations Have Their Moment of Foolishness” I thought the overall reason was just to portray a full image of George W Bush that was created by using small tiles. However, after reading his artist statement I realized that there was more to just Bush’s full image. I noticed that George W Bush and the tiles within the full image were related to each other in quite a few different ways. Although Bush’s image from afar dominates, when one gets closer they begin to see the small images on the tiles full of detail. Some examples would be “....buildings and cities demolished by aerial bombardment, the rubble of bricks and charred beams with occasional skeletal remains, nuclear mushroom clouds…”
Bush, in his address, makes use of arguments of association with a sense of duty to ignite a fire within the American citizens. From the onset of the speech, Bush’s objective becomes clear: inspire the public. He states: “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve” (“9/11 Address to the Nation,” para. 3). The attacks ultimately destroyed the World Trade Center; the towers collapsed wreaking havoc on the city underneath.
Genovese and The Transformations of the Bush Presidency: 9/11 and Beyond, on September 10th President Bush was a man whom many believed did not actually win the presidency and was the object of more mockery than respect. And then, September 11th happened, what a difference a day can make. From the lesson of Full Range Leadership lesson we needed a leader with Inspirational Motivation and we got from President Bush. Americans exhibits confidence in their leader; and bought into his vision. Not only did Americans do this, but so didn’t our North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies.
President George W. Bush gave a speech titled “9/11 Address to the Nation,” where he reassures the nation of our country’s strength and even calls it the “brightest beacon for freedom.” This event was a suicide bombing of the World Trade Center where approximately 3,000 people were killed and nearly 6,000 more were injured. Although it was one of the worst attacks in American history, it unified the nation in more ways than one. This speech was made even more important after a tragedy like 9/11 because the nation had been frightened by these acts of terror and was in need of the inspiration of our most powerful leader: the commander-in-chief. Throughout this speech, Bush uses rhetorical devices such as pathos, analogy, epithet, and asyndeton
It took 250$ and good deeds to create some doctor like me. Growing up I was the kid who looked at the world with open optimistic eyes. I grew up in a small city called Dora located in Iraq, the middle of three girls. I was born in the late 90s, I have been told that I was born "at the end of the good days". That's when Iraq's political circumstances were not at peace at all, at 2003 another war broke in Iraq.
He used logos to prove to our Nation that he can and will do something about the attack. One major example of this is when he says, “The functions of our government continue without interruption. ”Federal agencies in Washington which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight, and will be open for business tomorrow. Our financial institutions remain strong, and the American economy will be open for business, as well.” He shows the Nation that everything is under control, and the government knows what is going on and how to handle it.
Such destruction of life stirs me to sorrow and outrage.” Geoffrey shows emotion to the destruction Atomic Bombs created and he tries to talk about the harm they do. From here on, he continues using pathos as his element to persuade. “America would have shown its compassion and humanity.” Shepherd believes that America should have at least thought about the harm before doing.
It implies that Americans will be robbed of their peace and serenity if nuclear weapons aren’t under strict control. The concept of ethos brings credibility to the ad through the use of an authoritative knowledgeable figure. Additionally, the concept of pathos appeals to your emotions through peace and fear. Lastly, the use of juxtaposition brings forward the example of parallelism with war casting peace into darkness. The concepts of ethos, pathos, and juxtaposition equate a successful persuasion for the re-election of President Lyndon
Most nations equipped with nuclear weapons claim that they rely on them for strategic defense, and they are vulnerable to various attacks without these destructive weapons. Even with the high risk of destruction and devastation, they would prefer to keep nuclear bombs active and ready to go when necessary. Scrapping nuclear weapons would work to a nation’s disadvantage because various hostile states are covertly acquiring nuclear weapons in large number. If they dismantle nuclear bombs, they will be vulnerable to attacks (Matsui). The United States has many pacts that say if countries get rid of some of their weapons they will get rid of some of there
