This investigation compares and evaluates the possibility of garlic extracts being an alternate choice of antibiotic. Since garlic is affordable to most if not all people and the fact that garlic can be prepared in a variety of simple ways. For example, you can add garlic cloves to your soup and other recipes, boil it up in hot water to make tea or simply eat it either cooked or raw. A common recipe used in China and other parts of Asia in preparation for the cold season is to make garlic wine. This is done by soaking peeled garlic cloves in rice wine for around a month and if one were to catch a cold, the person will need to take a table spoon every night and the symptoms will slowly disappear. However, traditional medicinal recipes are commonly used an alternative medicine approach 1. Alternative medicine is any practice that is put forward as having the healing effect of medicine, but is not based evidence gathered using scientific methods 2 and are not fully integrated into the dominant healthcare system (cite WHO TM strategy). The fact that recipes were not derived from scientific method makes traditional medicine more unreliable but that does not mean it should be …show more content…
Some bacteria are harmless, some can even be helpful for us for instance the bacteria that exist in our digestive system but there are also bacteria that are harmful to us. To be able to deal with that vast amount of microorganisms and especially the ones that may cause harm to us, a vast variety of antibiotics is needed. Antibiotics is a type of antimicrobial for preventing and treating bacterial infection. The way antibiotics work is by either kill or inhibit the growth or reproduction of the bacteria 9, despite the name, a number antibiotics are also known to be effective against protozoans and fungi. Antibiotics are commonly divided up into different classes, sorted according to their functions, chemical structure and spectrum of activity. The larger the spectrum is, the more types of bacteria the antibiotic is effective against. 10
For instance, penicillin refers to a group of antibiotics derived from a type of fungi called Penicillium 11. Antibiotics of the group Penicillin were some of the first drugs to be effective against serious diseases such as infections caused by staphylococci and streptococci. Penicillin is still being wildly used today, however
“Antibiotic sensitivity tests showed that the two groups differed in sensitivity to penicillin and erythromycin, but no other antibiotics.” (Article abstract).Out of the nine hundred samples they took, the group showed the bacteria was defeated by the antibiotic penicillin and the antibiotic erythromycin but the other antibiotics didn’t touch the bacteria. The experiment showed people only two antibiotics were fighting off the bacteria. The two of which are being over used and over time will no longer work. If the bacteria continues to grow bigger and better, the antibiotics for ear infections aren’t going to work which leads to hearing loss, even to the extent of going
PHAR 100 Assignment 3 1. Antibiotics are a form of medicine that seek out and destroy the bacteria that make us feel sick. Antibiotics work great against bacteria, however they don’t work against viruses. Penicillin was the first antibiotic to be discovered by Alexander Fleming, and it was first used to treat infections. Essentially, these powerful medicines fight bacterial infections, and have the potential to save lives.
1. A beautiful woman with eyes the color of amber and a strong will to match mine. 2. Where I could go and hang out with my friends.
Another medication developed was penicillin. “Before the widespread use of antibiotics like penicillin in the United States, even small cuts and scrapes could lead to deadly infections.” (Little, 2021). This is why penicillin was such a good thing. Now soldiers didn’t have to worry as much if they got wounded in battle.
A lot of surveys have been done over the years about the ethological aspect of these practices since they are sometimes considered holistic and unfounded since many healing practices are composed of rituals and sacred bundles used by shamans or witches. To a foreign audience, it might be at first disorienting and doubtful because medicine in our world is considered a science and revolves around collected data unlike religious practices. A survey made in 1994 states that “Many respondents indicated that they were unsure what traditional Native medicine entailed and thus had difficulty forming an opinion on whether it would be appropriate in various settings, especially in the hospital. In fact, 16% of the physicians indicated this directly, and another 14% left the question blank, when asked for their definition of traditional Native medicine (Table 2). Eighty-one percent believed that the use of traditional Native medicine was not an important issue in their community, although 41% knew of at least one patient in their practice using such medicines, and 15% knew of more than five patients using them.
Antibiotics are also one of the fastest increasingly used prescription drugs because many people live a stressed, unhealthy lifestyle. The highest prescribed drug in many areas is antibiotics. This can be expected due to seasonal illnesses, chronic sickness, and poor health and living conditions. Many people become dependent on
However, there have been virtually no scientific studies done on tribal healing practices, undoubtedly due to the spiritual nature of the treatments. Some of these historical pieces of literature attempt to assess the impact of Native-American knowledge of New World herbs on the knowledge and practice of early-American elite physicians and botanists. Healing and medical practices of Native Americans has been obscured by time but there is anecdotal evidence available and competing perspectives about the true values of Native American healing practices
Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria reformat themselves in order to become unaffected by the drugs or substances created to terminate them (About Antimicrobial Resistance). They gain resistance to the drugs which causes the drugs to be ineffective of use and leads to more harm. Antibiotic resistance commonly occurs within patients because of physicians misusing or overusing antibiotics. This creates a common resistance to patients and resulting in the constant creation for new antibiotics that would treat the bacteria (Antibiotic Resistance). The main conflict generally evolves from medical stewardship where physicians have the responsibility to optimally heal their patients to their best efforts (Medical Ethics and the Stewardship
Medicine has slowly evolved over the years each year coming up with new advancements. For many years eastern medicine strived, many cultures believed in many different things but all these beliefs
Different cultures and religions believe in different types of healing practices, there are a lot of Americans that use herbal remedies to cure all sorts of illnesses. If these remedies don’t work, it is the responsibility of the individual and family members to seek out proper medical treatment for the

At the time not even the most straightforward diseases, for example, not even the common cold was curable. Until the best medicinal disclosure at the time was accidently found in 1928. Starting its potential amid World War 2, the entire world needed its hands on it. It was Penicillin. Penicillin left an imprint in our history, it expanded medicinal innovation, manufacturing and even diminished diseases.
INTRODUCTION: In this experiment I was testing for antimicrobial sensitivity of Staphylococcus epidermidis by using the Kirby-Bauer Diffusion test. The three antibiotics utilized in this lab were: gentamicin, novobiocin, and penicillin. I determined the effectiveness of the antibiotic by observing and measuring the zone of inhibition for each antibiotic.
Herbal medicines are widely preferred by some individuals all
