Performance Enhancing Drugs have been used in professional sports for many years. It all started with the breakout during the 1990s in Major League Baseball. One example of this situation would be the famous Major League Baseball player Barry Bonds. Barry Bonds was one of the best hitters the MLB has ever seen. He was a 7x MVP, 14x All Star, Home Run Derby Champion, 12x Silver Slugger. All up until last baseball season Barry Bonds held the record for most Homeruns in a single season at 73 Home Runs. As of last year Barry Bonds has been denied into the Hall Of Fame 10 times since the end of his career, all because in the year 2003 he was framed for using PEDs. Performance Enhancing Drugs attracted so many people to become so interested in the great game of baseball.”PEDs and slugging averages were very directly correlated, as were PEDs and all stars. The effect PEDs had on the fans was incredible, it attracted fans around the world.”(Pantuosco) There was an increase in the number of people that were showing up ad even streaming the games on television during the time of the doping era. Baseball can be known as a slow sport which can be “boring” to watch, but there is nothing better than seeing some action like a homerun hit 400 plus feet. The amount of strength gained by using these drugs was honestly unbelievable, it caused many players to throw harder and hit the ball farther than anyone ever thought they would be able to. Which was the exact thing that attracted people to the sport. Performance Enhancing Drugs also greatly change the athleticism of athletes that are using them. “Doping is a short-term way of making you not only gast, but stronger, and it makes you able to jump higher. It overall is a way to make you progress more than the other athletes through a drug.” Ultimately when it comes down to it, doping is an easy way out for athletes. In a short amount of time this drug is making them bigger and better than their biggest competitors, and for most that makes sports more interesting. Doping can also be know as Testosterone Replacement Therapy(TRT) for some of these athletes, which is the legal version of what they are using at a prescribed dosage. “Restoring testosterone levels to within the normal range by using testosterone replacement therapy can improve many of the effects of hypogonadism.
