LaRue Moor, a Permian English teacher, does most of the coordination and prioritizing of Permian education and community. LaRue notices that academics at Permian have been sacrificed for football success. Many of the teachers at Permian are underpaid and overworked for students who prioritize athletics over education. While the Panthers football coach makes up to 30 percent more than the average teacher salary.
Boobie Miles, learning disabled star athlete, is at least two years behind his classmates in all of his subjects. This is no concern athletically or academically for Boobie, as he is being recruited to a Division I college for his athletics. He is considered learning disabled and has low academic expectations.
