This quote is set during a hurricane. Everyone is trying persevere through this hurricane. This whole book is about hope, making it through your problems, and achieving your dreams. Which is said in the first paragraph of this book. It talks about the men achieving their dreams.
He displayed this when he was in the desert and had broken his big toenail so he had no toenail. “Soon he was crying so hard he could not get his breath. He could not think; he could hardly get his breath. He had to slow down, and for the first time on the long journey, he began to lag behind.” another example is “Do you see that group of bushes you need only to walk as far as those bushes.”

The Hatchet is a intense survival story. The main character Brian is trapped in a forest after a bad plane crash. In the story, Brian used three survival strategies to lead him to staying alive in the forest and being able to face any challenges of survival. The strategies used are Trial and Error, Positive Thinking, and Observation. In the next paragraphs I will talk about the three main survival strategies Brian used to survive the forest.

Jimmy Santiago Baca managed to survive through life’s obstacles, becoming a better person in the end, a person he wouldn’t have been if he hadn 't fought for it. His life started off with a drunken father who would beat them, and soon after a mother who abandoned them. Him and his siblings grew up with their grandparents, hoping for their parents to return for them, until they were sent to an orphanage and eventually gave up hope. Overtime all the family had grown apart, only rarely did his siblings speak to him.
“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th.” This quote is the epitome of, Santiago, the boy, In the novel “The Alchemist”. The boy comes across several points where it would be easier to stop his journey and forget his dream, but instead he keeps pushing through till he succeeds, with the help of the omens. The recurring theme of omens in the novel, “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho helps Santiago persevere throughout the novel, by guiding him in the right direction.
In this report we will be talking about the novel Hatchet, written by Gary Paulsen. All throughout the novel, Paulsen uses creative literary techniques to emphasise the theme of man versus nature. The novel, Hatchet, is about a young boy, called Brian, who takes a plane over a forest going from America to Canada to visit his dad, when the pilot dies from a heart attack and Brian has to crash land the plane in a lake. Brian then has to learn how to live in the wild while waiting to be found by the rescue crews. In the paragraphs below we will be talking about the literary techniques Paulsen uses throughout the novel, like metaphors, similes, reptation and exaggeration, that help show that, Brian is dealing with dangerous animals of the wild,
Merriam Webster dictionary defines a “hero” as a person admired for achievements and noble qualities. Dictionary.com states that a “hero” is a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character. Benny Bernstein considers a “hero” to be a powerful figure who is respected and makes decisions not only for his benefit but also for others. According to all three definitions, Sir Ernest Shackleton, was most definitely a hero. “Although tortured by worry, he remained outwardly unperturbed.”
I will never forget that encounter the intense sun, the endless horizon, the infinite shades of blue that dissolved any boundary between sky and trees. The views were like swimming into a kaleidoscope, deceptively plain "Lake Winaukee" sign on the outside, but a show of colors on the inside, waiting to shock and, mesmerize me. Those colors! Sails on the horizon covered the lake; streaks of sunlight illuminated them, the swaying wildlife creating a dance of rhythm. Beautiful, preserved life synchronizing every movement with the camp sight creating one living entity.
Pain comes in different ways and in different scenarios for each person and even pets, but with perseverance we can get through these painful times in our life. In the book The Call of the Wild, Buck, the main character gets shipped from owner to owner, coming out of each owners care, not in the best state of health. Often times he returns beaten and starved, but with perseverance he keeps on running and eats back to health. Much like Buck, my mom persevered. While just starting her adulthood she had a major brain surgery, which caused a lot of severe pain.
For example, Stanley continues to carry Zero up “Big Thumb” to seek refuge even though he is exhausted and in need of food and water. Helping Zero after he collapses from sickness, possibly caused by the consumption of ‘sploosh’ (old spiced peach jam). “He thought only about each step, not the impossible task that lay before him,” (page 170), which further displays his ultimate perseverance. Stanley also shows this character trait whilst digging, keeping in mind Stanley is obese, “he glanced helplessly at his shovel. It wasn’t defective.
Many characters have shown courage or perseverance in someway or form, throughout their stories. Many of them have ended up changing character due to the courage near the end of the stories. There are two characters that have changed from events that have gave them courage to do something about it. Stanley has shown perseverance courage throughout his story. He had to lie to his parents to make camp not seem like a bad thing.
There Is More Than One Type of Hero In “Notes from the Underground”, a fiction book by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, the Underground Man is not like the traditional main character in most other fiction books. Often books have a tragic hero where he or she either saves the days or unfortunately is killed. But that is not the case for this book, the main character shows characteristics that do not fit along the lines of a tragic hero at all. This paper argues that the Underground Man is most definitely not the tragic hero, but instead an anti-hero.
He challenged everything that comes on his way. He said man can be killed but not accept defeat from others. “But man is not made for defeat,” he said. “A man can be destroyed but not defeated.”
One of the themes in the novel, The Old Man and the Sea, is that one should persevere even in the most challenging situations. The old man’s, Santiago’s, lone struggle with the fishes and the forces of nature over a period of almost three months demonstrated an almost mythical persistence. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate whether this theme has any value compared to God’s word. The Bible often discusses the theme of perseverance in the midst of adversity. Even though one views Santiago’s endurance and tenacity with admiration, the root causes of that perseverance is different from the reasons for a Christian’s perseverance in the world.
