Perseverance through Hate Everyday of our lives, we face challenges that we persevere through. Whether it’s getting into a fight with one our close friends, failing a test, or swimming from Manhattan to Florida, like Diana Nyad did. Her journey took her years to prepare for, and finally, even with all the hate from people who thought she couldn’t do it, she finally did. Hate is a very strong subject throughout The Power of One. There is the hate that the boys at the boarding school had for Peekay, there was the hate that everyone had for Afrikaners, and there was also the hate that people had for each other in general. In an article I read about hate by Frank McAndrew, he talks about how hate is always the lead story on the evening news because everyone has so much of it. He talks about how we want to know if others have the same interests as us, and this helps determine our level of comfort, trust, loyalty, and cooperation, towards them. He also talks about how once we believe something, we continuously believe it and it’s hard to change our mind on that subject. In The Power of …show more content…
When Peekay was beat and tormented by the boys at the boarding school he still fought through it and never really let his fear show. “Why won’t you cry, you fucking bastard?” pg.50. This is the judge talking to Peekay, wondering and getting frustrated with why Peekay won’t cry even though he has given him so many reasons to. In a video I watched about perseverance by Diana Nyad she talks about believing in yourself in order to persevere. In the book, Peekay had to believe in himself when no one else did and this helped him achieve his goals. The Afrikaners also persevere through lots of hate while the guards beat them continuously. They sing even though this is happening and keep a positive attitude. Singing is a way that they help themselves go through
Martin Luther King Jr faced hate when he said, “This momentous decree came came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice,” (King 48). Martin Luther King Jr happened to be black, and in his time people didn’t treat them the same. Many blacks would of been to scared to stand up and speak, but he did. That shows he is a great leader and knows how to take on the hate. Atticus Finch took on hate when, “Bob Ewell stopped Atticus on the post office corner, spat in his face, and told him he would get him if it took the rest of his life,” (Lee 217).
Perseverance is one word to describe how I have accomplished and succeeded in every goal I have committed myself to. Having the opportunity to apply for the National Honors Society is one goal I have so far accomplished this year. This not only demonstrates my hard work in different areas, including academics and clubs, but also my passion for helping others and my community. I think my experience with leadership and volunteer work will not only help me flourish, but also help my peers to flourish outside and inside the Society. Leadership is one of the pillars that the National Honors Society is built upon.
Hatred comes from many things and can grow into many forms as well; for example, when people get in an argument and they do not resolve it then their anger can continue growing and eventually grow into hatred. Hatred as a noun means to intensely dislike someone or something. When you have hatred for someone, it is hard to see from their point of view and everything they do will be tainted by hate. One of the ways that you stop people from hating each other or something, is to try and solve anything that they have against each other or the thing that they hate. Second, hatred grows and escalates when people don't take care of their arguments and let them fester and grow into hatred.
In Chatpter 4 Howard Thurman give you his outlook on hate. Hatred cannot be defined. It can only be described. “Hate is another of the hounds of hell that dog the footsteps of the disinherited in season and out of season. Christianity has been almost sentimental in its effort to deal with harted by preachments by moralizing by platitudinous judgement.
Through perseverance, a person can attain many great things. When she gets to Woodrow Wilson High School, her students do not listen to her, and in fact, even get into fights. She even has to call a teacher to stop them from fighting. Later, after a shooting at a gas station, a passing of a racist drawing goes around the classroom.
The three-time United States Track and Field Olympic champion, Gail Devers once said, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can’t stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn’t think we could be that strong.” In the non-fiction book Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, protagonist Louis Zamperini demonstrates his everlasting perseverance through his everyday actions. Like Devers believed, the resilient Zamperini refused to be defeated or demoralized and did everything in his power to keep his feet on the ground and his chin up.
While reading about hate in Jesus and the Disinherited, I found out that hating is something of which to be ashamed unless it provides for you a form of validation and prestige. If either is provided then the immoral or moral character of the hatred id transformed into positive violence. It says that Christianity has been almost sentimental in its effort to deal with hatred in human life. It has sought to get rid of hatred by preachments, by moralizing, by platitudinous judgment. There is not a definition for hatred, but it can be described.
Only after she endured all the highs and lows of life did she truly understand that “you can vanquish the demons only when you yourself are convinced of your own worth.” Her memoir will continue to teach many great life lessons throughout time and will always
What is hatred? Many people don’t know the answer to this question. There is no one right answer because hatred affects everyone, and affects them differently. There are many that would describe hatred very similarly to anger, disgust, or contempt, but it is more than that. There is more to the question that we should be asking, not just what hatred is, but what makes it unique.
Limitless is a novel written by Alan Glynn, which includes the story of Eddie Spinola and his journey into discovering the true capacity of the human brain. Eddie is trying to take control of his life by taking a “designer drug” marketed towards increasing brain activity. This drug allows Eddie to reach new levels that normal humans would typically never be able to reach. Shown through Eddie’s actions and thoughts, the purposes of the novel are revealed, such as what can occur when one reaches their full potential, the effects of drug abuse, and the greediness of the powerful. MDT is a drug that enhances brain capacity and abilities for a short amount of time.
People cannot escape these two powerful emotions of love and hate because they are simply entwined together. We can love someone dearly but the next moment hatred surges from your body once they have done you wrong. As we love someone we are shadowed with the hate, once things go wrong the hatred suddenly can take over your body. Hate is an emotion that is hard to deteriorate because of the painful memories and experiences. While love is hard to obtain, it’s difficult to find people you truly love and willing to do anything for that person.
No matter how independent an individual may seem, at sometime in his life he will need to rely on the help of others. In the film the power of one ,directed by John G. Avildsen, the main character, PK would not have been as confident or successful if he had not the help of his mentors. Michael in the film lost boys directed, by Joel Schumacher, was in grave danger of becoming a vampire, when, with the help of his brother Sam,and frog brothers, he was able to defeat the forces of evil. The directors suggest that no individual can get through all of life's problems without needing the help of a mentor/teacher. In the power of one P.K has 4 main influential people in his life that helped him stay on the right path during rough patches in
I think hate challenges us to love each other more strongly because it functions as a barrier to divide us. The stronger we stand, the more our resistance negates the hate. But why fear it?” “I fear the hatred inflicted upon any child that experiences the neglect and torment I suffered.” I dared not to ask any more questions about your tragic past.
When you ask a person, “What is wrong with the world today,” they will have a number of solutions alone. One of the countless problems with the world today are haters. These haters are people who hate with or without reason. They might call someone ugly in a music video or just say it was terrible just because they can. They drop people’s self-esteem, make individuals lives’ worse, and force individuals to do things they don’t want or shouldn’t have to do.
