To me, character is the elementary essence of subjective individuality; this trait defines how one is to present himself amongst contemporaries and, in turn, is to shape his perception of self. The determining factors of character regard one’s state of mind and manner of perception; these prove to shape both ideology and social mannerisms. Without first attempting to discern one’s own being, the extent to which individuals develop their own character is directly proportional to that of which they conceptualize character unto others; this may entail prejudice and misrepresentation which can often be combated by deconstruction and contemplation of self. Respect is the seed of a tree whose growth is essential to the surrounding environment. Without the ability to see others as equal and display kindness regardless of external factors, one binds himself to the disillusionment of a close-minded world-view. One must welcome subjectivity with all manners of open-mindedness; the beneficial enlightenment and peaceful discourse that respecting another’s differences may bring about is productive and educational. In regards to my “moral compass,” I must state that I believe what I do is well-intentioned and good; however, the notion of objectively defining morality is inherently paradoxical as an individual’s definition of good is subjective, but I digress. My actions are dictated by whether I believe they would be beneficial or impractical; I act in accordance with maximizing productivity whilst remaining worldly. I seldom find my faith wavering or myself questioning the nature of my actions purely bilaterally; my definition of the “right thing to do” is definite and related to the beneficiality of all people. For instance, if someone requests assistance in math class, I’m often the first to offer help; to cite another example, I often do what is asked of me by my parents or teachers immediately after it is assigned or …show more content…

The prominent notion of a “character crisis” seemingly ties into fears that our values as a people are being forgotten by the youth and developing generations; however, the instilling and formation of values within the mind requires nothing more than itself as these inherently-subjective, worldly outlooks and means of interacting about our world lack the requirement of a superior to formulate. It is the job of the superior to enforce abstract and rational thinking rather than to direct what a student is to think. Ultimately, character is an important facet to postulate and it most-definitely requires further enforcement through classes based in the abstract to promote open-mindedness rather than definite
