PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT Personal development is a lifelong process that covers activities that develop identity and awareness, cultivate human potential and talents, strengthen human capital and facilitate employability, enhance the quality of life and contribute to the realization of dreams and aspirations. Some experts define it “as a way for individuals to assess their skills and qualities, consider their aims in life and set goals in order to realize and maximize their potential”. Simply put, personal development is a lifelong commitment to becoming a better version of one’s self. It is imperative to nurture a positive attitude towards life so as to achieve success in both personal and professional aspirations, as a study of the most successful people shows that they are people with positive attitudes. What is attitude? Attitude is defined as “a settled way of thinking or feeling about something”. It can also be defined as a predisposition or a tendency to respond in a certain way, either negatively or positively, towards ideas, objects, persons, or situations. This has a great influence an individual 's choice of action, and responses to challenges, incentives, and rewards. In psychology, an attitude is considered a psychological construct, and as the mental and emotional entity that characterizes a person. Why then is attitudinal development important? You know yourself best and know if there is a need for attitudinal development or change. You know where you are lacking, and I am sure that you are aware that our attitude towards life can have a significant impact on our quality of life.
