Balancing family and responsibilities at work may not be easy especially if your job involves a lot of traveling. However, with a proper plan, you will still be close to your family and focus on work. You will also to take good care of yourself. Make proper use of the time you have away from work to assure your family that you are available for them. Moreover, ensure you are there for important family events.

1. What to do when a business trip takes you away from the family.

a) Make the children aware of your Business travels.

Let your children know that you will be away on a business trip. Address their concerns and give them a guarantee that they will be fine even in your absence.

-Tell them when you will be leaving, your destination, how long the trip will take and when you will return.

Organize help for your partner when you are away so that they are not overburdened with work. Consider having a housekeeper. Appreciating your partner is also important.

3. Make your family more involved.

a) Be available during important family events by rescheduling business.

Balance work commitment and significant family events. Know the significant events ahead of time and plan for them. Where you are not able to make it for these family events, create time with your family and compensate.

b) Talk to the company to allow you to travel with your family.

Negotiate with your employers to allow you travel with your family whenever possible. Where the company is understanding, this will be possible. You need to make them understand why you need your family with you.

c) Consider taking your family for the trip.

Where the company is not able to take care of the traveling expenses for your family, you can take them with you at your own cost. You can then schedule time after work to explore the city with them.This is a way of helping them understand what your job entails when you are
