Personal Essay: My American Dream

We have grown as a nation whose fundamentals are unlike any others. Being a citizen in the United States is more than a birth certificate or document that verifies that you are. Whether you were born a United State citizen or chose to become a citizen the same rights will stand true. Right of freedom of expression, religion, fair trial, employment, to vote or to run for elected office and the right to pursue “life liberty and the pursuit of happiness”. This is what makes United States Of America so beautiful to so many others not just to those who were lucky enough to be born here.

What it means to be American is to be free to say, do and like whatever i would like . It means to be united with everyone no matter what. To different people being American means different things. Being American let’s anyone be whatever gender they want religion, culture, and language . America is a place of freedom, where people are guaranteed natural rights .

Being an outsider from The United States I have always been fascinated by the lifestyle and vast diversity that this country possesses. I hold great admiration for their leaders and the way they somehow always manage to do what’s best for their country. Although, naturally no one is perfect. From what I can perceive America is mostly a place where freedom, of any type, is actually part of the daily lives of their citizens. From speaking their minds freely to being able to conduct their lives as they please.

In James Truslow Adams book, The Epic of America, he claims that this country is, “a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement … regardless of fortuitous circumstances of birth or position.” (Froger 1). The country was founded upon those principles to serve as a peaceful place. Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s (FDR’s) New Deal programs promised safe, healthy futures for every American which led to a new understanding of the American Dream: “freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom from want, and freedom from fear.”

Our founding fathers knew it best when it came to the importance of private property, James Madison said, “Property rights are as important as personal rights, because the two are so intimately connected.” I will present to you why property ownership is continuously considered a beneficial idea by giving examples of its emotional, financial, and social benefits. First, I believe the American Dream is still very much alive today. We as humans have that deep-seated yearning to have our own place to call home.

“Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great land of love […] But opportunity is real, and life is free, Equality is in the air we breathe” (Source C). American citizens believe in the opportunities that America offers. The American dream is the ideal that every U.S. citizen should have an equal opportunity to prosper and succeed through hard work and determination.

On account of autonomy guidelines were all the more reasonable and just to the general population. Likewise, Human rights were made which bettered and enhanced our general public and the general population in it. At long last it is currently commended worldwide and acknowledged extraordinarily my numerous. Autonomous individuals can deal with things all alone, and this expands their certainty. Then again, absence of autonomy means depending on others to complete things.

In the United States of America people are able to follow the true American dream, which is simply stated as unalienable

Being an American means that you have the freedom to choose where you want to live, where you would like to work, who you would like to marry, listen to any radio or TV stations you want to, travel freely in this country without any restrictions, study what you’re interested in, and achieve your career or educational goals without any influence from any military group or government. Unlike many third-world countries, your life as an American citizen is very independent. People are entitled to dress the way they want, travel where they want, and be passionate about anything they appreciate. Privacy is of utmost importance either at home or in a social setting. You do not see people intruding into your personal life, unless you know them very well.

It’s a day everyone stops and appreciates each other and our nation, at the same time. It’s a day celebrated by all Americans. Old and young. We are allowed to feel however we want to about anything.

California is the “beauty of the eye of the beholder” since all people who come from different background, race, and religion are able to set their own dreams without being criticized. People especially immigrants have viewed California as the “land of opportunity,” which influenced them to leave everything behind in their hometown, to sacrifice their time and to focus on their dreams. Despite the fact that California was lauded as a utopian society, people soon found out that they were going through endeavors and couldn’t overcome them quickly as possible. In fact, Mr. Rawls wanted to express the grievances, struggles, and success that people endure in their rise to the California dream in his short essay, “California: A Place, A People,

Hernandez 1 My American Dream Tapestry A child, the most innocent and most brightest creatures of us all. Never having a care in the world but always looking for laughter, hope, and fun. As a kid we have many friends, all of us sharing the same desire, happiness.

As a child, I had many dreams, but in a country with lots of poverty, dreams die. My world exploded when I realized I had an opportunity to achieve the American dream and be the first in my family to do it. My goal this semester is to maintain at least a 3.5 GPA and actually take life lessons from every class I attend. I know I will be faced with many challenges, but I plan to overcome any obstacle with will and determination. This first week made me feel emotional about my future, how far I’ve come, and how much closer I am to the big house on the beach.

Paradox and dream Americans have developed the idea of an American Dream over decades of time, we have came to believe and trust in these ideas throughout the years. From generation to generation the American Dream has been built on, changed but still carries some of the past along with it. Our beliefs help us pursue the American Dream in that they give Americans the idea of never settling for less, to fancy ourselves as stubborn realist, and that we have inherited self-sufficiency. According to John Steinbeck, Americans are never satisfied, always searching for the next come up and wanting more.
