What is Optimism? “The tendency to be hopeful and to emphasize or think of the good part in a situation rather than the bad part,” as Cambridge Dictionary defines it, is called optimism. Characterized by a feeling of hope for the better outcome, optimists find the good in everything. As an optimist, I tend to look for the good in everyone, disregarding what people tell me. I believe that everyone has at least one good thing about their personality. Being an optimist leads to improvements for someone’s life. “Optimism is a happiness magnet,” Mary Lou Reton says, “If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you.” The “is the glass half full or half empty” question can show one’s views. If you are a very strong optimist, you may argue that it has always been full due to the occupation of air in the “empty” space. If you oppose completely and see the glass as half empty, you have a pessimistic mindset. What is Pessimism? Pessimism can cause life to be harder, more upsetting, and difficult. As Harry S. In one instance, being optimistic and befriending a person whom everyone dislikes because they believe that he or she is “mean” can lead to you making a great friend who feels misunderstood. I found myself in this situation. Although this boy and I never grew close as friends, he encouraged me to do something that everyone made fun of me for wanting to do; it meant a lot to me. I feel that my optimism led to a friendship for not only me, but the boy who seemed to have a limited number of friends. Optimism changes lives. By thinking optimistically, happiness comes easily. It may be hard to do sometimes, but making a list of good things from a day can help you to see the good. Optimism leads to a happy, healthy
