After writing a paper on tidal power in Nova Scotia I have become fascinated in sustainability and renewable energy. Everybody wants to the change the world, myself included, and right now I think energy is the way to go. I'm passionate about the environment and energy conservation in particular. I've been able to develop my passion through my school's Environment Committee, where I am the secretary and make influential decisions in events and initiatives we organize. Through independent research projects I’ve been able to stimulate my curiosity for the ethics, physics and politics behind clean energy and have only become more invested in the cause. Ever since my parents strapped cross country skis onto my snow boots at the age of 3, I've loved cross country skiing. Since then, I've gone through many steps to become the ski racer I am today. Starting with adventures with my parents, then ski programs at Martock Nordic Ski Club, being encouraged to race, making the NS Provincial Ski Team and getting to compete at national level competitions. The community surrounding cross country skiing is the best support system one could ask for. Growing up in this community has helped me make many of the major decisions in my life so far.
Because this great community supported me so much, I've been able to contribute back and help others enjoy cross country skiing and all the amazing qualities that come with it.
I've volunteered at local races for the past 4 years, always encouraging everyone to race, regardless of age, speed or technique. I completely understand how a bunch of young racers in spandex suits can be intimidating, I was in that position once too. Skiing is a life long sport, and racing does not have to be a part of
