"I want to save lives. I want to put a smile on someone’s face. It is a family tradition”… just some of the answers you would typically hear to the question “why do you want to become a doctor?” But to the question “why do I want to become a doctor” I feel that it requires a moment to step back, stop looking through the window to the outside world and instead look at the reflection of my own self staring back at me. In that reflection I see the woman I strive to be and I close my eyes for a moment to listen to single word resonating in my head. Life-changing.
I want to study medicine because the subject of medicine has always been an area of intrigue to me. Such intrigue came because of my uncle, Jamal Hammad. During my early years, medicine was always a dream however as days past by I life, I now realize that it is within a stretch of hands. My past experiences have strengthened this stretch of hands. During my earlier years in school I was part of an accelerated program where some students had a choice to do 3 IGCSE exams early; that is, work for a 2 years course in less than 10 months simultaneously for 3 subjects. This accelerated program was designed to be a peak of challenge to the students who were willing to put in top notch effort to achieve. As organized of a system as it may seem it was more challenging than expected for it was experimental at first. The difficulty of keeping up sat on a higher summit with all the time management required, sacrifices and dedications that had to be made towards the work. For what at a point seemed to be an impossible obstacle to overcome, it became nothing more than a relief when all the hard work was rewarded with straight A*
