An average student would spend hours on schoolwork a day, which can be very stressful. A high school student will use half of their day around school relation. Almost all elementary to high school students will likely to agree that homework should not be assigned. The majority of students complain about homework yet teachers don’t usually understand why. While homework gives benefits to students, unnecessary homework should not be assigned due to the fact that there are enough school hours, it consumes time, and the development of poor health is encouraged.
It drastically decreased my grade point average since I had enrolled in this course with other difficult courses in my schedule; however, I did end up learning a lot from this experience. It taught me to be very aware of what I choose for my courses as a senior in high school and possibly as a freshman at Purdue. This experience also taught me, even though it is a human instinct, not to compare my intelligence to other people, regardless of what grade they are in, what grades they have, or how many more AP courses they are taking. I have also learned to make my own decisions instead of letting others make them for me because if I let others control what I do, then I will risk missing out on following my own unique path and expressing my individuality. Classes are different for everybody since every person has strengths and weaknesses, and everyone is intelligent in a unique way.
In the fourth or fifth grade, I remember reading, writing, and grammar becoming a competition in the classroom. Coming from a family with ten older first cousins, competition was something I always loved. However, in class when every assignment I did in English turned into a competition on who could read the most books or who could get a 100% on every reading comprehension quiz, I began to dislike the logistical literacy learning. I understand now that I was still performing literacy through other acts such as talking to my friends or singing music in the car, however, I was becoming disinterested in learning in the classroom because I did not want to be of a less value to my peers. Looking back my hate for the competition style learning was a fear that my stellar performance would be no longer apart of my identify.
“If excellence is possible, then good is not enough!” This was my seventh grade math teacher’s mantra. Her encouragement of excellence and love of teaching was one of the biggest influences in my decision to become a teacher. The other great influence in my career choice was my diagnosis of dyslexia in the second grade. School became a place that I strongly disliked and I oftentimes was discouraged due to the fact that everything was a struggle to me.
These grievances would almost always strongly imply that I, and not their child, was at fault for the poor grade. I would often find out that instead of assisting their child with these assignments, they would often do most of it for them. The result was the parents felt as if they deserved a better grade and it had little or nothing to do with their child’s effort. It was really about
Normally, people are told that they should not write as they would speak, that it is unprofessional, and can be confusing for the reader. And while this can be the case of some narratives, Malala succeeds with this writing style. By writing as she would speak, while less formal, the words feels more personal, as though she were directly telling the reader the story. She utilizes repetition for emphasis, quotes things that she has heard, and will jump to details of previous topics if the current one requires it. From page thirty five, “It was a point of pride for me that almost every year in primary school, I won the trophy for first place at the end of the term.
Has your child ever experienced physical symptoms of stress, such as headaches, exhaustion, sleep deprivation, weight loss, and stomach problems from homework? Many students say that homework causes stress, however 57% of parents believe that students are given the right amount of homework. Even though homework is assigned to help students practice time management, good work habits and reinforces the material that they learn in class but most students disagree. Homework doesn’t benefit a student, while homework is thought to be harmless it could cause serious consequences and by being responsible and doing it right when you get home it takes time away from family or extra curricular activities. This is why I propose that homework should be abolished from school in order to reduce stress or other symptoms, to create time for family/friends or socializing, and make school a fun place for students to learn rather than collecting pointless homework that could be done in class.
With my willing to learn attitude and my great teacher Mr. Winn, I should be able to accomplish this difficulty of mine by the end of the semester. As I have stated once before, I don’t enjoy writing, but I don’t enjoy a lot of things but end up having to get the task accomplished. I speak better than I write which leads to me dragging out an hour long essay into a two week task at hand. Writing may be an easy thing for some people that have no problems with doing so, but others have such a hard time with because of their inexperience with do so. My process of writing is definitely not anything to brag upon, but will come easier to me as I write more in the future.
I am not very fond of letters, I think I read what is necessary and I write as brief as possible, only when it comes to school assignments I try to develop both activities in a better way. Being honest I do not see myself as a writer, my reading or writing has never been strong, so I think I do not see myself developing that profession, on the other hand, I clearly remember how I started reading and I can say that it was even a bit traumatic. In my first years of school I was very good at math, I was very smart and I got excellent grades, but in writing it was a different story ... I was terrible and it took me a lot to learn to express my ideas through letters, so much so that my parents made me repeat a year of school and in high school I
Everyone has been handed homework. Most people have begrudgingly completed it under the assumption that it would help them practice and study -- an assumption that those hours of hard work spent after school would be useful; an assumption which is now being proved false. In fact, newly emerging evidence indicates that homework must be regulated because it actually has few proven academic benefits and can actually hurt the well-being of the students. Believe it or not, new studies indicate that homework has not shown any benefit for students academically. Many studies have been conducted on this subject, and most of the recent ones show no correlation between homework and academic success.
I would frequently receive 3s and sometimes even 2s. However, the worst critiquing I have ever experienced was in 8th grade. My teacher Ms. Garncarz had us write narratives similar to the one I am writing now but she had us work in partnerships. After mostly working individually, with some help from my partner, my teacher told me that my writing wasn 't original and that I needed to stop having my writing rely on others. This took me back, because normally as children we were praised for our writing and collaborative efforts, however, now individuality is key and writing is criticized more than
I understand that teachers may use the second method to help students learn how to solve a problem. But I am not fine with a teacher marking a student for not doing it the long way. I feel as if a student knows how to do 7 + 7 by adding it using his style and it was faster their way, that a teacher should not mark the student for not doing it the long and annoying way. My Favorite math problem from common core is when they took another simple question like 29 + 11 which equals 40.
Early in my life, I used books as an escape from the harsh reality in front of me. When I was around five years old, I was trapped in an abusive and sheltered household. When the yelling started, I used to hide under my bed and stay very quiet. I would read any book that I could find to keep my mind off what was happening around me. I made myself a safe space under my bed with a light and pillows.
My audience for this literacy narrative essay is relatively small and young, with a total of 14 persons. The males surpass the girls greatly by three – six girls and eight males. They are between the ages of 17 and 22 years old. Ten persons are 18 years old, two persons are 19 years old, one person is 17 years old and one person is 22 years old. However, the average age of this audience is 18 years and 4 months.
