I am deeply honored to be given the opportunity to join the National Honor Society and be among some of the most exceptional students in our school. Being given this opportunity shows my family and myself that I’ve truly worked as hard as I can to succeed. Growing up around adults with a good work ethic has taught me to see the reality in life. Working hard will help create a better future.
I wish not to base my level of successfulness on the amount of money I earn or receive, but on the amount of heart I give to others and my work. Over the next thirty years my success will be reflected by a number of significant milestones that will lead me into a career in the music industry.
Everybody has a passion for something that they enjoy doing and spend most of their time doing. I enjoy playing soccer and it has become one of my biggest passions ever since I was the age of 5. I enjoy playing it more than any other sport I have ever participated in.
The quote, “ Everyday is a new opportunity. You can either build on yesterday’s success or put its failures behind and start over again. That is the way life is, with a new game everyday, and that is the way baseball is.” - Bob Feller. That quote has irony on how to be successful, likewise that baseball has helped me become successful. Baseball has taught me many things about life such as how to have a good work ethic, how to accept failure and success, and has helped teach me to keep going when times get tough. Those are a few ways that baseball has helped me be successful.
Sports have been apart of my life for many years. I have been actively involved in volleyball and softball throughout my lifetime. I started playing these sports at a young age and fell in love with the sports and have been playing them ever since. I love to play volleyball, but softball is my passion. As a three year letterwinner and playing the shortstop position, I have faced many challenges. I have played softball with my older sister for many years and June 7, 2013 was one of the most heartbreaking days of my life.
“Play for the name on the front of jersey, not the back.” A popular quote for sports players. What does it mean? Anyone who’s seen any sports game with a team uniform would know that the team name is located on the top of the front side of the jersey and the player’s last name goes on the top of the backside of the jersey. So, the quote means play for your team and not for yourself. This kind of philosophy is something that you can get only from sports, but I’m only interested in playing one sport. Or should I say, lucky for my dear parents, I only want to play one sport. How could you possibly pick just one, out of all the variety? It was a challenge, but I managed to pick softball.
Why do I like to play basketball? While we may not realize it, there is some rationale for everything we do. It may not always be logical, but there is a force that drives our emotions, actions and ultimately our destiny. My motivation for playing basket ball is very simple, pure enjoyment. No one is telling me I need to play basketball and I certainly don’t need it to survive, but every time I step onto the court with my four other teammates, the electricity courses through my body and my heart races. Representing my school is a source of pride, but when added to the joy of playing the game, there’s nothing like it. But before I can encounter that feeling, it all must begin somewhere. The dreadful 2 hours of of my day,
In my brief life, I have overcome a lot of adversity. My mom fled Mexico with her three young children to escape domestic violence. When we came to this country we had only a few personal belongings and the promise of a better future. We came to this country and lived in a small trailer with no toilet other than a bucket, and no shower except for the one that was lent to us from the kindness of a stranger, our new neighbor. As a single parent, my mother had to work day and night to support us. While she was working long hours cleaning people’s houses, as the oldest of three children, I had to quickly learn how to cook, how to clean and take care of my siblings. From getting the kids ready for school, helping them with their homework, and
I have experienced many situations and endured a multitude of experiences throughout my life. It is through these experiences that I have been able to learn a great deal about myself. Since I was young, I have always set astronomically high goals and expectations for myself. This was largely in part due to the strong upbringing from my parents, who taught me what is right and wrong, and instilled very strong personal values, along with a continued ideal of community service. These values helped forge me into who I am today. Besides family values, my background begins when I first joined the Boy Scouts of America. There I was taught what it means to adhere to a motto and properly wear a uniform. Although this was the simplest form of a uniform,
I work in health care I am a respiratory therapist in the next 10yrs I would like to see myself in a leadership position or an educator, I would like to stay within my scope of study in respiratory care. As a therapist we see the stunning recovery of patients from a traumatic accident to walking out of rehab. In health care you see patients get a second chance in life. After taking the Focus2 self-assessment my interest profile suggests I work in a social environment because, I enjoy helping people or enterprising suggesting I am ambitious and like to take initiative. The profile paired me with jobs like health care facilities inspectors or family social worker, which showed a median pay of 48,340 (Bureau of Labor Statistic,
Should kids be sitting on the couch, watching movies, and eating chips all day? What kind of childhood experiences and learning opportunities for growth and development can be attained from being a couch potato? If you really think of it of course; your child is missing out on a lot of childhood experiences. Sitting on the couch, eating chips, is one of the factors to the fact that over one third of the world’s population is obese. Daniel Gould, Ph.D., director of the institute for the Youth Sports at Michigan State University, says, “A solution to obesity is competitive sport. The percent of obese people would drop about eleven percent.” (http://www.parenting.com/article/are-kids-sports-too-competitive) This proves that kid ages four to eleven, should participate in competitive sports. Competitive sports keep kids healthy and fit. Second it teaches kids to face competition and work as a team. My last reason is that it improves self-esteem levels; helps improve self-confidence and helps kids deal with pressure. This is why I believe competitive sports should be a part of all kids’ lives.

Growing up, I’ve survived many experiences in my life. I’ve seen both sides of the field, the good and the bad. When I was younger, I didn’t understand how important life really was. That’s because I didn’t have main motivators to motivate me to push myself to do right. I didn’t have anyone to talk to me and guide me down the right path. Basically, what I’m saying is, I didn’t have my parents to watch over and teach me what I needed to know in life. Ever since I was young, I always wondered if I was meant to be here or was I just an accident. All my life, I’ve felt pointless because nothing ever added up. I’ve always had unanswered questions that I felt was important, but still to this day, I ask myself what is really
I am so thankful for everything I have in my life, like my family and friends, and reminding myself of that gives me a positive outlook on life. When something goes wrong, I am quick to remind myself that it can be worse, and that everything will be fine. I know that many more people have it hard out there, but appreciating what I have brings happiness into my life. My friends also give me joy, making me laugh about every little thing in our conversation. When we talk about the future, no one is pessimistic. This moments are the ones to be cherished, and the ones who give me happiness and hopefulness to the future. They help me have optimism that our future will be enjoyable and as advantageous as possible. I surround myself with optimists, and these people help me find the bright side to every single thing. Yes, this speech is certainly long and I didn't want to start it, but at least I will feel accomplished after, and that feeling is great. It’s better than doing
There are a lot of things in this world that would make the world a better place. And I feel that being a welder and working in sports medicine are two of them. I know that those two fields of work would affect the world around me. I would maybe one day work for the NFL and help all the players get better. Me helping the players will make the world better because everyone loves football. The players need to be taken care of so they can play efficiently. Wherever I end up, I know I will be helping people. I would initiate a program in the school system for student athletes.
