NARRATIVE Everything was glittering. The sun was just setting and there were varieties of pinks, oranges, yellows, and reds that all faded down to where the sun was hiding behind the Empire State Building. Bright lights from Jumbo Screen ads, and lights from windows shined all around the city, they all danced above. Even though it was late at night,there were even more people walking the streets than there was when I looked out this morning. I closed the trapdoor and climbed off the boxes that I stood on. The room was in complete darkness, and I turned on my flashlight and shone it around the room. A huge maze with many greens and flowers all over it, I looked down at my feet, and a stone path was under my feet. There were birds chirping and they fluttered across the building. I heard a strange noise of a lawnmower fill my ears. Which was weird.. I thought I was alone here. I followed the stone path to the maze, and saw the top of a house over the top. Stepping slowly into the, maze, I could faintly remember my past of loving to go through corn mazes. I followed every corner, and continued straight. The house came closer into view, and so did the noises of the lawn-mower, I kept moving forward until the maze finally came to an end, the house was in full view now. She continued to mow. She probably can’t hear me. “Hello?” I said louder. The lawnmower stopped and the girl tilted her head and stared at me. “Who are you?” The girl said cautiously. I opened my mouth to reply, but she spoke again. “Oh.. wait. He said you would be coming,” she dug her hand into the pocket of her jeans and pulled out a small piece of paper. “He told me to give this to you. If you want your life to be normal again, follow that clue.” I slowly took the folded paper. “Who is he?” The girl just smiling and turned the lawnmower back on. Walking away, I shakily unfolded the paper. Clue one: Find the key by the shimmering pond. What? I looked around, but couldn’t see a pond. I walked back all throughout the maze, and when I got out I could see the shimmering pond. I walked towards it, but stopped in my tracks. Did I honestly want to go back? Back to where I really didn't have much of a life? I crumpled up the note in my hand, and threw it onto the ground. I heard the leaves blowing around and birds singing.
