Crack, the ball ripped far into left field, I shot up from my hard plastic blue seats, Chase Utley did it again. He rounded the bases one by one and slid smoothly into second. “That’s a double for Chase Utley,” the announcer Dan Baker said, over the intercom. I sat back down to a light tap on my shoulders, I turned around.
Dr. Meyers, Hello! I hope your Thanksgiving was rejuvenating and enjoyable with family and friends. This is Angelia (Angel) Hirsch from the summer practicum course through Liberty University. I am not certain what happened over the week of Thanksgiving, but our house (which is a 125 year-old historical home, really a niche market, not many want to deal with the special things that come along with the age and up keep) suddenly went into high demand and we had numerous offers come in on Wednesday!
Cannon Hall 3rd Hour Don ‘Butch’ Hall I never was really close with my grandfather. I’ve pretty much lived in Utah my whole life. I was born in Richland, Washington, but I have no memories of living there because my family moved here, to Utah, when I was two. The majority of my family, from both my mother’s and my father’s side, live in the northwest.
Sandy, I just found your Christmas card. I should have yours in the mail by the end of the week. With all the traveling, I didn 't have time to start until the week after Thanksgiving! I 've never started writing our cards so late. What are you doing for Christmas?
My childhood comprised of playing many board games with family. Board games require a lot of thinking and planning. After playing Risk for the first time, I realized how much interest I had in the qualities these games have. I see these qualities in Paul Klee’s painting Highway and Byways as well as F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. The experience of playing Risk changed the way I viewed the world, as well as how I go about my day.
Thanksgiving with an American Family One of my college friends who is an American invited me to the Thanksgiving dinner with her family. I had never been to a Thanksgiving dinner before and so I was pretty excited for this party. The first thing I noticed as soon as I reached her home was the sweet smell of the dinner being cooked. My friend opened the door for me and introduced me to her family.
Several individuals from different ethnicities, races, and citizenships, compose a society. The United Sates allow us to have a close interaction with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds. In my own case I have been able to interact with many incredible individuals from all over the world who come from extremely different backgrounds. I am a proud Mexican who cherishes respect towards diversity. Coming from a very suffered country I am able to understand not only what does it means to feel proud to be a Latino, but also I can feel acquainted with the pain and struggle that our community has to face every day.
Today’s event was a crucial part in communicating our distaste to how Great Britain is taxing us. I have a feeling that this will act as an importing stepping stone in the future of our colonial rights. After the Townshend Duties were dropped, except concerning tea, Great Britain has had the audacity to still try to warp our minds into buying from them. Although the Indian tea is cheaper and much more flavourful than the Dutch tea we have secretly been importing, we colonists have decided that there is no way we are buying anything that Britain has had to do with. Although I am weary from the excitement today, I can’t help but smile when I think of the clearly defiant message we sent the British.
As a student, I have grown in my skills for academic success by having to write an essay in my Honors English class. We’ve recently finished reading the novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and were told to write an essay about one of the given prompts. Before having to write this essay, I was struggling with the type of vocabulary and perspective, which was third-person, I was supposed to use. I had to find the right quotes from the book and explain in detail how they support the prompt, I felt that was the hardest for me. The words “I” or “me” weren’t allowed in the essay, unless they were in quotes.
It all started on a summer day, I went to nags head beach with my family. We got a big beach house with my whole family and a few friends. This was about 4 years but it feels like it was just the other day. We went at the very end of the summer. It was still nice and warm outside.
Hernandez 1 My American Dream Tapestry A child, the most innocent and most brightest creatures of us all. Never having a care in the world but always looking for laughter, hope, and fun. As a kid we have many friends, all of us sharing the same desire, happiness.
Of all my classes I’ve attended, I believe I have never cried as much as I have with this class. The last 6 weeks have magnified the fact that as African-American, divorced woman, single mother who has underwent abuse multiple times by the ones closest to me, the odds are quite unjustly stacked against me. Not only has The Cry of Tamar helped me look at all the obstacles behind me that I conquered, it has given me the encouragement to press forward. I am not the only one. I am a part of the more than half who have encountered sexual assault, but didn’t report it.
