On June 3rd, 2016 I was just doing my usual things likeeating and sleeping until my mom came home at 3:11 and told me we are going out of town. Of course I was excited but I also wanted to know where we we 're going. She told my 2 brothers and I to pack our bags and get 3 changes of clothes, so we did. Like usual, I would be the last to know. Then I decided to ask her where we we 're going. She said "Out of town to a place called Agua Prieta." I 've been there before a couple times. Then, I let my brothers know where we we 're going. Later that day, around 6, my mom told my brothers and I we we 're all leaving at 3am in the morning. my brothers knew they would have to go to sleep a little bit earlier than usual. The next morning we all
Growing up in a Mexican household, the food we ate always had a spice to it. Whether the spice was on the side or already prepared in the food, my food always had a spice to it. My grandma’s favorite signature spice was her Pico De Gallo. Pico de Gallo also called salsa Fresca, is made from chopped tomato, onion, cilantro, fresh Serrano’s (jalapeños or habaneros are used as alternatives), salt, and key lime juice. At first I did not like Pico de Gallo because I couldn’t bear how spicy it was.
After the flight from San Juan del Sur, Abigail and I have finally arrived in Isle de Ometepe. We were so exhausted from the three days prior to arriving in the second city that we chose to have a rest day. Now that we both were well rested, we planned a day filled with trying new dishes such as the Gallo Pinto, which consists of beans and rice (Scharf, “Where”). Later on that day, we decided to take a bike tour of the island; I brought my disposable camera in my backpack to take pictures of the beautiful scenery. In addition to riding bikes, Abigail and I visited multiple sites around the island where we found ancient petroglyphs; these petroglyphs are famous for its pre-Columbia’s history.
Monday October 3rd I was texting my cousin Teagan Snyder and was talking about rodeo season again and she said that she was going to a Leon rodeo and I asked her to ask her mom if I could go with her. Her mom said yes so I hadn’t practiced at all during the week before the rodeo. The Friday night that I got down there I had to get everything ready for the rodeo in one night and it was really hard.
Senior year is winding down and three things that has been on my mind lately, one of which is UChicago. As I am artsy fartsy and I have written a crap poem to showcase my love for UChicago. Will anyone read this? Probably not, but I will share anyway and probably change some of the wording and add it to my quality blog (Grapesofcontentment.tumblr.com; high quality) University of Chicago To my dearest love, I pardon that my deep affections towards you are unrequited, And that you have many fine suitors that beseech you as well, As my love for you is immortal; an inevitable consequence of Your profoundness, your passion, your splendor, and intellect.
As a Cuban-born woman, my expected role in society is clearly defined; my thoughts and personality have a mold into which they must fit. However, a month before my fifth birthday my family made the decision to move to the United States and in doing so liberated me from these expectations and gave me the freedom to explore my own interests and beliefs. Ten years later, they were making preparations for my Quinciañera. Due to my Cuban heritage, my coming of age was set to be commemorated by a very long and very expensive night of food, dance, and family. For the same cost as the down payment on a relatively small house, I would be given the opportunity to put on a show in a dress that restricted my airways and provide food and drink for about
As a kid growing up there are encounters that change your perspectives on life and what you need to fulfill in life. Luckily growing up for me was never what some would state a battle. I experienced childhood in a white collar class group of five in the residential community of Mercedes, Tx. As a kid living around there of texas known as the Rio Grande Valley you start to see the battles other individuals look in the group and You end up noticeably appreciative for the things you do have.
With my Cajita I would like to express myself as a person who is going through changes and a journey to becoming the best person that I can be at this moment in my life. Since I realize I didn’t have a meaning to life and all my hard worked was mean less since I didn’t have a true purpose for my hard work. I realize that life don’t have to be so complex and that we must find our own path even if people don’t agree with our choices. Therefore, my three artifacts that going to be in my Cajita will representing my journey of change and symbolize me truly fallen in love with myself for both inner and outer. So, my three artifacts are the Bible, kickboxing hand wraps, and hair pick.
Growing up, I never believed I had an identity. When I delve back to my earliest of memories, both English and Spanish made an appearance in my dialogue. Because my life had always remained constrained in a blend of American and Mexican culture, it was difficult to distinguish exactly which group I resonated most with. Here in the Rio Grande Valley, it is an internal war that is fought constantly. Whoever could predominantly show their Mexican heritage would be held at a great regard for not neglecting their roots.
I chose the inner coastal plains as my place to move. I would like to live in that region because there are a lot of activities to do with my family and the weather is wonderful while I have enough resources to survive off of. Some resources from the Inner Coastal Plains that would help me is wood or timber from forests. The wood could be used for furniture. Another resource I would use from the plains would be coal.
A friend of my dads called me asking me if I wanted to go to the Minnesota Vikings game with him that weekend. I didn 't know what my parents were gonna say when I asked them about it. I asked them and they said that I could go. I told my dads friend that my parents had said I could go. A few days passed and it was Sunday, the day of the Vikings game.
I smiled gently as my feet sunk into the warm sands of the Punta Cana coast. During a short snorkeling expedition on the magnificent coral reefs, I was abruptly awoken by a loud series of bangs. Who was outside the door this time of night? As the banging got louder, my anger quickly morphed into terror. My mind began racing with the infinite possibilities awaiting me outside the safety of my bedroom.
That day, I held trash bags for my mom to place our clothes and utensils in. We went straight to her sister's apartment to stay in a place already filled with six people. During those years, our location fluctuated between his house and my mother's home because of his unkempt promises. He eventually convinced her to sale her house in order for use to move in with him and buy a new
My Trip to Florida It was a cold winter night in Upstate New York. My mom and dad were enjoying a cup of coffee, my sisters were playing video games, and I was editing a few pictures on my computer. My mom brought up the idea of a vacation. She said” We haven’t been on a vacation for a long time”.
Warm, sunny Destin is like Heaven on earth. This last summer I got a chance to visit Destin for summer vacation. Yes, the 16 hour drive was not super fun, but it was TOTALLY worth it in the end. I had a ton of fun. We spent most days relaxing on the beach, but we also went to this huge amusement park called the track.
Basketball Achievement I woke up on a sunny cold Saturday morning,my throat hurt and my stomach ached and I was still tired so my eyes were half opened. I went out of my bedroom and went through the hallway and sat on the couch in the living room. I looked at the time it was seven o’clock and knew why I was up that early it was because I had a basketball game at 8 o’clock. The team was called the Seminoles some people barely knew anyone on my team only I knew one person and her name was Mackenzie. I was very nervous and I wasn't even at the basketball court
