Personal Narrative: Chesapeake Figure Skating

Life is always full of meaningful memories, some memories fade as time goes on and others stay forever. It’s these memories and experiences that make us who we are and make us stand out in a crowd of millions. A memory that I will always cherish is the first time that I began ice skating, I was four years old then. I was watching television with my parents and I saw a girl gliding gracefully across the ice, she was doing jumps, spins, and splits in the air. I thought that she looked amazing preforming in front of thousands people in an arena. I was in awe at how beautiful and elegant ice skating looked and wanted to try it for myself. My parents and I went to an ice arena called Northwest Ice Rink, we had met a kind lady named Ms. Jackie who didn’t skate herself but offered to teach me the basics of skating. Never forgetting where I started and the person who helped me get to where I am today, I practice hard and continue to get positive results for my club team and myself. This is a meaningful memory for me because without Ms. Jackie I wouldn’t have been competing on the ice and winning medals. If I hadn’t been skating I wouldn’t be coaching and teaching kids who are 3 to 12 years old to skate and enjoy skating. I had always been a shy person, but skating allowed me to express myself and connect with others. I have become much more confident through figure skating and learned how to work and cooperate with others when I perform in groups for shows. Skating has made me a confident, goal-oriented, competitive person which has helped me a lot to not be afraid to meet new people and try new things. Figure skating is a meaningful memory that I can never forget and made me who I am
