I requested Trooper Bullar to stand by with Pierson while I went and spoke to Smith inside the residence. I knocked on the front door and entered the residence. Smith was sitting on the couch in the living room. Smith had food on her left arm and there was food on the couch. Smith stated she was sitting on the couch and Pierson was in the kitchen preparing food. Pierson brought Smith a plate of food. Pierson sat the plate of food on the arm of the couch beside Smith and returned to the kitchen. Smith and Pierson were watching television. Smith stated the Dish Network satellite signal froze on the television. Smith pushed the reset button on the satellite receiver in an attempt to gain the satellite signal. That did not resolve the issue. Pierson became upset. He started yelling at Smith, telling her it was all her fault. Once Officer Martin grabbed Mr. Youngs’ arm, he attempted to pull away and began to kick at other officers and flail his arm. On 6/14/18 about 1655 I was riding partners with Sgt D. Comodeca #1790 when I responded to a domestic at 3713 NW 27TH ST. When I arrived SU Palmer, Derrick had already left the scene. I spoke to VI Pollock, Marguerite who said SU had been on her property before our arrival and had just left the area. Pollock said Palmer had been calling and leaving her voicemails since May 18th of this year.
In chapter 4, when the dish is being used, it breaks. The dish does not break by itself. In the story, the cat knocked it over. The cat could be a symbol for Mattie. “The cat, unnoticed, had crept up on muffled paws from Zeena's seat to the table…
Ethan’s initial response is to attempt to simply piece back the pickle dish with glue. The use of glue or “the easy route” to fix the broken pickle dish so Zeena won’t discover the accident, symbolizes Ethan’s thought process to try repairing their loveless relationship. Furthermore, Ethan is afraid to even tell Zeena that the dish has broken which shows the lack of communication and understanding in their relationship. Zeena’s response is much more dramatic, by intensely accusing Mattie of not only breaking her most prized possession, but also threatening her husband and their marriage. Zeena’s anger and resentment over the broken pickle dish actually illustrates her sorrow over her broken and unfulfilling marriage.
This is like Ethan and Zeena’s marriage, kept so that nobody can touch it, although Mattie eventually does. When Zeena found out about the pickle dish, she did not want Mattie staying with them anymore. This shows that when Zeena found out about the pickle dish, she realized something was not right. Mattie brought down the pickle dish and this showed the problems and issues with Ethan and Zeena’s marriage. One issue being how fragile their marriage was and that it was all based upon the pickle dish.
