He had been an athlete for all his life, having played soccer, basketball, boxing, and tennis since he was . He lived his life in the gym, which gave his body the look of a top-rated model. After a graduation party and still drunk as fuck, he woke up to a knock on the door. “Knock Knock.” Still drowsy on his bed and too lazy to walk to the door, he wished it was the wrong knock. “KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.” The sound got louder, giving him no choice but to go and find out who was disturbing his peaceful morning. In Legend by Marie Lu the author uses indirect characterization to explain who John is as a person. At this point in the story Day, June, and John are all running away from the site of execution. They had just disabled the guns for 2 minutes and are using this as a last ditch effort to save themselves from the merciful firing squad execution. In the novel it states, “Then he turns around. My eyes widen.
and he went to a boys boarding school that he had attended when he was younger, to hear traditional songs and deliver his speech. He starts off his speech with how the war evolved since the last time he had visited the school. The speech starts off with how depressing things were in the beginning, but then he speaks of how they are fortunate now. He speaks of how at the beginning of the war things were bleak and belief was low. “Why, when I was here last time we were quite alone, desperately alone, and we had been so for five or six months.
In Tim O’brien’s war story, The Things They Carried, the narrator describes the life of American soldiers and provides evidence of how the war has impacted their lives. In the 1960’s, young American men were sent to fight in the war thousands of miles away from their homes. At this time, most men had no prior experience of fighting in a war. Naturally, the men had no idea what kind of brutality the war held also how much of a vital role the war would play in their futures. O’brien’s own experience with the war displayed that the fear of getting shamed before ones own peers played a main and also motivating factor for joining the draft.
My Argument Stephen A. Douglas I didn’t want slavery to spread into other territories. Let’s spread slavery into the west, and other places. I’m more honest than many other people. I tell it as it is. It’ll show the world that we’re dominate.
Men within the “prime-fighting ages” were required to register for the draft and selected at random to serve. Despite a common misconception, most men that were serving in the American armed forces rarely saw the horrific scenes of battle. In comparison, the soldier’s view of the war and the interviewees differ greatly. Many of the soldiers were fighting in the war to return home to safety and comfort. They wanted to “get it over with” so they could return to their families and to their homes.
In the story, Frank and Genie are John’s parents and are confused and concerned about their son wanting to enlist in the military. John spoke with recruiters from all the branches of service except

He was feeling loads of pressure but also felt numb while he was waiting to go into war when he got picked in the draft. He didn’t know what to do and really used his words to let the readers know what he was feeling. He uses great detail in the story he is telling. He wants readers to try and understand what people in the draft felt when they got called and how hard going to war can actually affect a
Tyler had joined the military seven years back, and I hadn’t heard from him since. Normally, a forty-four year old shouldn’t be able to join the military, but due to the lack of soldiers applying, I was able to easily skip the physical and be sent to training. My wife said goodbye, muffling her tears as I drove myself to the military base, my horrific vision getting the job done. As I drove closer to the military base I could hear some sound, despite the small amount of activity in the Nevada desert.
But like the violence, it soon became normal. And Scott continued the daily routine from running in the morning to movies in the night. While the Army brought out the worst in everyone there were some positive things that changed my dad’s life. For example, even now he still remembers the speeches his drill sergeant would give his unit after a long day. “It gave you five or ten minutes of normalcy at the end of the day.”

Throughout my childhood and adolescent years, I always had a dream of joining the military. Though it was a choice, I still did not have any inside information of what it would be like, and the requirements and specifics of the Army. It wasn't until 2005 when I decided to join the United States Army that all my concerns and questions were answered by a recruit; and I was guided through the whole process to enter and prep for the Army. If it was not for the confidences and motivation of my recruiter back in 2005, I might have not made my leap and probably would not be in this uniform today. Becoming a member of the United States Army recruiting team means having a physical and mental toughness in order to perform efficiently.
