Personal Narrative Essay: My Experience In The Public Library

When I was a child in Africa, I spent my days in the public library. My teenage uncle would give me some snacks and drop me off at the library in the morning and pick me up in the evening. This was his way of babysitting. The library always had something interesting going on and I naturally made friends with books.
Ever since then, I have always found solace, answers, and comfort in libraries. I moved to Fort Worth,TX when I was 9. My parents believed that public school would be a bad influence on me, so they sent me to boarding school. I did not like being away from home and not seeing my siblings. I dropped out of school in the 7th grade. Then I did a high school course through the mail for a year. Now I regret not going to high school. I did not attend college all these years with the excuse that I had no idea what I want to study. I didn’t realize I could use the library, the place I love, to set my goals.
Over the summer, I volunteered at the Central Library downtown. I took to it and it inspired me to a career I am passionate about. I want to become an outreach librarian to show others the services, wisdom, and comfort of the library. I realize I need a degree to become a librarian. I am now enrolled in college. By going to TCC along with building my grit, working hard, and persevering, will be the start of my journey to being the person I wish.
