When I was a child in Africa, I spent my days in the public library. My teenage uncle would give me some snacks and drop me off at the library in the morning and pick me up in the evening. This was his way of babysitting. The library always had something interesting going on and I naturally made friends with books.
Ever since then, I have always found solace, answers, and comfort in libraries. I moved to Fort Worth,TX when I was 9. My parents believed that public school would be a bad influence on me, so they sent me to boarding school. I did not like being away from home and not seeing my siblings. I dropped out of school in the 7th grade. Then I did a high school course through the mail for a year. Now I regret not going to high school. I did not attend college all these years with the excuse that I had no idea what I want to study. I didn’t realize I could use the library, the place I love, to set my goals.
Over the summer, I volunteered at the Central Library downtown. I took to it and it inspired me to a career I am passionate about. I want to become an outreach librarian to show others the services, wisdom, and comfort of the library. I realize I need a degree to become a librarian. I am now enrolled in college. By going to TCC along with building my grit, working hard, and persevering, will be the start of my journey to being the person I wish.
The first struggle I will need to overcome is my math curse. I have struggled with arithmetic my entire life. My goal for the
Some people are taught by universities while others by libraries. Ray Bradbury was totally the second case. Nine years after he was born the Great Depression made a descent upon the United States of America which changed his life a lot. During his schoolyears he was a part of different drama clubs and played a lot, but even though he was an intelligent kid, he had no place to go after school and the only way was to the local library. “Libraries raised me,” he later said.
Lesson 8: Journal Response I enjoyed reading Black Boy by Richard Wright because it was a touching story about the significant of books. In the story, Wright shares the story of the life-changing transformation books introduced into his life during a time of hardship. Books allowed him to change his perspective of life a feeling he describes as, “The impulse to dream had been slowly beaten out of me by experience. Now it surged up again and I hungered for books, new ways of looking and seeing. It was not a matter of believing or disbelieving what I read, but of feeling something new, of being affected by something that made the look of the world different.”
When I was a student at Gallaudet University, I found college to be difficult. After five years, I was a junior. I faced many challenges. One challenge was the wrong major. I picked the Graphic Design major that I thought was the 3D Game designer.
I remember my mom and I repetitively filling out absent forms, so I could go compete at a horseshow. The make up work started to build up, and eventually it got to the point where riding and attending school seemed almost impossible. Fortunately, I knew a few people who used online programs, so they could compete and go to school. After researching for the right program, I enrolled to be an official online school student for my second semester freshman year. The program was perfect.
Moreover, I have grown to become a charismatic, strong, courageous, brave, and optimistic young adult that can and will insinuate a difference in society. I wish to inspire people one day and hopefully stir up some deep emotions that reminds them about the finer aspects of life. With my best foot forward, I am dedicated, if given the chance, to taking advantage of all the resources and opportunities that Montclair State University has to offer me, all while keeping other people’s best interest in mind as well while doing
For my literacy interview I interview a young lady by the name of Jeanette Zamarripa. I did Ms. Jeanette because I have gotten to know her over the years. I met Ms. Jeanette at Lone Star in Tomball a while back, we had a math class together, but we never really talk to each other, until last year we have several classes together, and we did remember each other from the math class we took a while back. I think everything happens for a reason, and that the Lord put people in your path for a reason as well. We were both attending UHD.
Life gets hard, and I am going to have to push through. Being on National Honor Society is an accomplishment; I have maintained an A average for 16 consecutive quarters of high school. I am always sure to have my assignments done on time, and I do the best of my ability to use my resources, ask questions, and correct my mistakes if needed. Applying myself to my schooling is important because if I don’t apply myself now, college isn’t going to be
My history as a writer has been a bit of a struggle of slow development. From a young age I had a hard time with spelling and this is still a trouble area for me, even with the help of autocorrect. As I grew in age and as a writer my problematic area became not including enough nitty gritty details. My bad experiences that I recall would always involve the start of writing because I struggle with beginning paragraphs. Also, I tend to use the ending paragraph to just repeat myself, so overall my first and last paragraphs are usually shit.
I 've learned that reading and writing can take me any where I want it to go. I can explore my mind to go anywhere by imagination, by reading and writing. However,My reading and writing experience since I was a kid until now I still having a difficulty. When I was 3 years old my mom started me to learn how to read and write. At first, I 'm having a difficulty to read and write but my mom tried her best to taught me.
The pain and agony due to the fact that I might not be prepared for college class was on my shoulders. Since day one of highschool, my biggest desire throughout school was to be engaged in learning while being well prepared for the next step in life: college. What class was the answer to this class desired? It was in a meeting with my guidance counselor in eighth grade that struck me and sparked the interest in my heart to do well. All of my highschool career I have never known what it actually meant to do well and be ¨successful.¨
Personal Literacy Narrative Reading and writing is a tool everybody needs in their lifetime the basic reading and writing skills are used on a daily base no matter what field you plan to study. Reading and writing are taught at a young age. I personally was taught by preschool I noticed on how I grew with my writing and how I became a better reader and writer throughout my life I personal love reading and writing it’s a way for everyone to express themselves through their choice of words. Everybody learns how to read and write differently some students tend to be stronger than others, personally speaking I feel I tend to be higher in reading then writing.
But that all changed for me at the beginning of my junior year thanks to my AP Calculus class. My teacher Mrs. Bandt didn 't only teach me she made me think in a whole new way. This class really helped me break out of my shell and got me thinking that i could make
My Journey to Literacy As kids we are taught literacy without knowing it. Our parents or teachers have sat down with us and helped us write out our letters, sound out words, and form sentences. We were all given crayons at restaurants and a piece of paper that had fun games, cartoons, and tic tac toe. There are few people who have not learned to read and write, or have learned in a different way or at an older age.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
