On October 13th, The Cubs won a postseason series for the first time ever at Wrigley Field when they punched their ticket to the NLCS by beating the St. Louis Cardinals. However, in a fiery matchup against the New York Mets, the Cubs fell flat. The Mets were in control, their offense pummeled the Cubs pitching, scoring a total of 21 runs in 4 games. It wasn 't the time for the Cubs. The Mets caught fire, the Cubs were missing something.
But in my case, in this event failure came though the struggle of confidence of who I was and who I knew I was deep down. This incident dates back to last June, where I start my second season of baseball. My first season is high school baseball, then second season is the travel team i 'm on. See I had a great season with my high school team, we made it to the championship by my hit in the semi final game, that won the game and sent our school to the championship. We ended up losing it in a best of three games but overall that season left a good feeling
In 2007 at Super Bowl 42, they defeated the best team in the NFL at the time. At that time, the New England Patriots were undefeated with a 16-0 (16 wins 0 loses) record and were voted most likely to win the Super Bowl. The Giants came in with a heart full of courage and pride; ready to upset a lot of fans and gamblers. The most iconic moment in the game was in the 4th quarter, when Manning dropped back to pass, but was surrounded by New England pass rushers. Escaping three tackles, he threw a long pass to David Tyree, who caught the ball against his own helmet, while being covered by Patriots safety Rodney Harrison.
I was starting cornerback, andwe won a championship. And I just went to Tennessee for a football tournament with kids that were a grade above me. Everything was going so well for me, but the one thing I was missing was a touchdown. That was the one thing I needed in order for me to say to my 10 year old weird self “I am one of the greatest football players at my age.” Now at that time I was starting cornerback on defense, but on
To end, my personal experience with football has been rough and has been smooth too. I started playing football when I was five and when I was seven and started on my flag football team, I loved it. I started at running back along with Dane Anden and we tore up the league, we were the fastest on my team, and we were the MVP’s of the championship that year. The year after that I suffered my first concussion. I missed a month of school and missed all of my wrestling season.
The last straw occurred when our goalie attempted to block another close goal by our opponents, but got him a sprained ankle in return. Unfortunately, officials determined he had to sit out for the rest of the game. His role in the game was crucial to our win. And with a wave, our goalie left us to perish with 10 minutes left; also, our opponents started with the ball to resume the game. Helpless and battered, exposed to a missile barrage of exhaustion, none of us could take this agony anymore.
For a young baseball player one of the highest goals to achieve is hitting a homerun -for me that was all I wanted. I already achieved most of what I wanted in baseball, and one of my proudest was a no-hitter, but it was no home run. When I first realized how bad I wanted this feat was one night after a practice where all we did was just hit. The majority of my teammates hit at least one homerun that practice, but me I hit the fence but never was able to send one over. The car ride home after the practice was horrible, I was a mess.
In his Legacy people have thought about Jackie in many ways but for good. In Robinson’s first practice exhibition several thousand blacks filled the stands with excitement ( Effrat- Online ). Not only did regular people see what Jackie Robinson did, but also powerful people like the U.S. President. Bill Clinton said at the anniversary of Robinson breaking the color barrier, “ It’s hard to believe that it was fifty years ago that a twenty - eight year old rookie changed the face of baseball and the face of America forever.”( Robinson 159- 160 ). The Lincoln Library quoted about Robinson, “ What Jackie Robinson achieved on the baseball diamond may fade with the passage of time, but what he achieved as a man will long be remembered.” ( Lincoln Library 88).
The summer of 2016 I traveled to Beijing with my brother and his baseball team to play against high school teams from the area. I had the opportunity to hang out with my brother’s team and with the high school teams and see how baseball is played in a different country. In Beijing, where the games were being played, the pollution was so bad and the smell in the air was as bad as rotten tomatoes from all the smoke. I was really frightened to be there because I was concerned about my health. In the U.S., we don’t
Then when the ball was about to be released from the pitcher 's hand. The lighting sirens started to “Scream”. Our game was delayed for two hours. After waiting for what seemed a lifetime, it was dark, and had to switch fields because the one we were at had no field lights. It was already 9:30 at night, and everyone was exhausted from just sitting around.
