Football is a very popular sport. I only played football for two years, but I still very much so believe I am literate in football. I started out just being a huge fan of football, but I decided when I was a junior in high school to start actually playing. I was awarded “Special Teams MVP” of my team senior season, and I believe this award only goes to further my claim that I am literate in football.
I began playing on the varsity team as a junior, with no prior football experience ever. I played soccer for the last ten years, so football was nothing like I have ever experienced. I struggled mightily for almost the entirety of the first year. When I joined the team, I was 5 feet, 10 inches tall, and weighed a mere 135 pounds. Being one of
Football can serve as a route to success and opportunity for the young players. They can use it to escape poverty and gain admission to prestigious colleges and universities. “Football was their only hope, their only way out of the desolate oil fields, their means of escaping poverty” (23). Football is a platform for players to show their talent, and for others to recognize it. It can open opportunities that would otherwise be unreachable.
“A house is made of walls and beams… A home is made of love and dreams,” (William Arthur Ward). As teammates, we are brothers on that field, and we have to put everything out on that field together. We have to show love towards each other because without it; we will fall. We have to work together to see our dreams realized or we will be crushed.
As a freshman, and a coach 's son, I came onto the football team and took a starting spot from a junior, who had started in that spot all of last season. There were quite a few players that weren 't happy with the decision, but I felt as if I 'd earned the spot. I knew that the only way i would gain their approval was to stand out. All season I listened to, "He only starts because he is the coaches son" but I tried to block it all out. The junior, who 's spot I took, took all his anger out on me in practice, taking every cheap shot possible while people weren 't paying attention.
Introduction It was the beginning of my 5th grade school year, and I decided that I wanted to begin a new sport. On the first day of practice, having never played the sport, our coach lined us all up on the field. Our team had a quarterback from the previous year that was returning, but he had no one to back him up this season. As coach Link stood back to examine his future team, unexpectedly, he pointed at me and said, “you are going to play quarterback”. Excited, reflecting back, it was one of the best moments of my life.
A hot summer day in August, no clouds, and no breeze. Two teams are competing on the blazing turf, and I’m on one of them. My quarterback is yelling. “Sixty” I breathe, “Sixty” I look at the enemy in front of me, “Set!” I hear a clap, step back, and throw my hands at the oncoming defender.
Ever since I was a toddler, I loved sports. Baseball, basketball, it did not matter; I just liked to run. When I was around 4 or 5, I was in the living room watching the Steelers play the Cardinals and saw Santonio Holmes grab a game winning touchdown to win the Superbowl. I was so excited that I jumped up in the air and I told my dad, “Daddy when I grow up I want to play football and I want to score a lot of touchdowns just like 10 does.”
Everything happens for a reason Football in the United States and Canada is a game that is played on a field with two teams, and eleven players on each side. This game involves many things such as play on the offense and defense, with different ways to score or obtain points. The game of football is broken up into four fifteen-minute quarters with a twelve-minute halftime break at the end of the second quarter. This game consumes the United States and creates a culture of its own, with everyone that played the game at some point or another to dream of playing it professionally. There are different levels to football in the United States from high school, to college, and then the pros.
Jaiden DeBose Humanities/Hanson Nov: 22,16 EA…………… The 80 yard touchdown run I always thought football would be really really hard and I would be the only kid that couldn 't score a touchdown, but that all changed on a single big run. It was a Saturday morning and I was getting ready for my second big game.
In high school, students have many opportunities to participate in athletic events. One of the most popular sports offered in high school across the United States is football. The list of life lessons the sport can teach is prolonged. Most people think that the long days and nights spent participating in high school football “pay off” after realizing the abilities they gained. High school football has the ability to transform irresponsible and unfocused students into responsible and perseverant athletes.
As a little boy I had big dreams of playing football. When I was walking in the halls of the intermediate and middle school and saw the high school football players with their jerseys on, they were like super stars. I looked up to them because I wanted to be like them. The high school football players were popular, they were happy, and they were important to the school. Going to the football games on Friday nights was the highlight of my week.
The average height of a football player is around six foot two inches, being 5'2'' and playing football can be pretty challenging. I started playing football when I was in the seventh grade, and at first it was pretty simple, but one's high school came along, everyone grew and got bigger, while I stayed the same height since middle school. I love the sport, but no matter how hard I worked , it seemed like my height was getting in the way of my success. Throughout my high school carrier I always heard " only if you were a little bit bigger " or "we need someone taller" , but I didn't let that get to me. I had to over come my height, peoples criticism, and the fact that everyone was way bigger than me.
Adrenaline pulsing through my body and anxiety filling up in my stomach, I quickly throw on my football gear and head out to the practice field. It’s a nice hot day in Ocala, Florida, with the sun beating down on our necks, we stand side by side in line waiting to be picked to play second, third, or fourth string in a play. Waiting in anticipation, each of us grinding our teeth, watching first string pure athletes colliding against each other like gladiators to have possession of a ball made at one-time of “pig’s skin”. To some people, the game of American football makes no sense, whether it’s the idea of trying to protect a ball or running and passing it to make a goal for your team. People like this, see the concept of football and understand why millions of people love it; but to them the sport is pointless and causes way too many casualties.
Something that I am most fluent in has to be football. Many people love NFL football, but for it to be loved by woman, that is very odd. I often get funny looks by men, thinking she’s a girl, how can she love football this much? Most girls can 't tell you what just happened in a play, but I assure you I can. For years I loved football, but it was about sixth grade when I first started to like it.
Soccer is one of the most popular sport in the world and the best for me too. The feeling of gratitude that I feel when my team wins a game or the feeling of wanting to keep improving when my team loses. Swimming is another sport that compels me as well. Feeling the refreshing water rushing across my face as I swim against the bright, clear tide of the water while racing against other competitors. Running is also another favorite sport that I love.
I 've played football my whole life. Even after 11 Years of the game it was shocking that I was not good. My whole life I always wanted to be the all star and the player everyone depended on. But, it just wasn 't me. Following my eighth grade year I was detrimmed to put all the years of failure behind me.
