I began my career as a registered nurse with now 7 years experience. I have worked 3 different nursing jobs while gaining valuable knowledge from each one. Essentially, I have discovered that some of the best nurses are educators. Yes, nurses are primarily caregivers, but they also have an important secondary role in providing education for patients, the community, and each other. I am eager to become involved in the earliest stages of my students’ journeys to becoming employees in the healthcare sector. In addition to the church, and society offers me the opportunity to pursue a Doctorate of Nursing Practice degree. The university's foundation and family-centered focus make it a great place for work-study. Although no one ever suggested that my journey to become a Registered Nurse would turn out to be a faith-based journey, I transitioned from Medical Assistant to Registered Nurse in 2017. I enrolled in an LPN program with only 12 weeks until graduation, but the school closed with no further information.

There is a high significance for a nursing student completing their degree in nursing to start their career as a nurse practitioner. Nursing students must prepare to become nationally certified by an accredited body upon completion of their schooling in order to advance their career (AANP, 2016). This academic accreditation process helps to show that the students have met the requirements to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in their population focus testing. The scope of practice will be affected based on the certification that the practitioner obtains. If the Nurse Practitioner obtains a certification as a nurse specialists in pediatrics, oncology, geriatrics, emergency medicine, etc.
Making a difference I started my health care career as a nursing assistant at the young age of 16 years-old perusing the dream of one day becoming a nurse. At that time, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into and what it meant to be in the health care. I have been able to touch and impact so many different people’s lives throughout the last 6 years from patients and residents to their family members. My life goal is to help as much as i can and be the best version of myself. Growing up I never felt cared about and had any attention given to me. From that point on I knew I never wanted anyone to feel like me at any point of their life. My passion for wanting to become a nurse became stronger. Knowing that you can make a positive change to someone's life by being who you are makes me feel great.
As a nursing student, I have a grasp on what nursing is through textbooks and lectures. The more I learn about this profession, the more I learn about what my philosophy is. Although I haven’t gained clinical experience as a nurse, I have gained some clinical experience as a nurse assistant that helps me administer patient care while acquiring knowledge working under the supervision of nurses. When I was twelve years old, I relied on my Magic 8 Ball to help me try out for the junior high cheerleading squad. The Magic 8 Ball is a toy that you ask a question, give it a little shake, and it provides you with an answer. In my case, my Magic 8 Ball’s response on whether or not I would make the squad was “It is decidedly so”. Unfortunately, I did not make the squad that year. In retrospect, the outcome was obvious.
While working full- time as a technician, I attended college and quickly took all the needed courses to apply into a nursing program. I was attending college and had a full time job. Having both challenged and excited me, since I was one step closer to having my career; just as I promised my grandmother. I finally got accepted into nursing school, graduated, and became a Registered Nurse. Every single patient I cared for, I used my past experience with my family, and used that as my foundation for my bedside manner.
