The talented musician Eddie Money once said “I’ve got two tickets in my pocket, now baby, we’re going to disappear.” What if we all had that? Two tickets to wherever you wanted to go. No one to stop you just you and someone special to you disappearing. If I had the choice to go anywhere in this world, it would be to have one more night with my dad in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Baton Rouge is my birthplace and me and my dad shared a bond with that city. It is where he wanted me to be raised, go to college, and raise my family. He dressed me up in the gold and purple ever since I was a toddler. Imprinted the plays of the tigers and their route running so I could watch the games with him and fully understand. Sitting on the couch on a cold brisk november evening watching LSU play their rival the Crimson tide of Alabama. With cheers and boos howling out of my dad’s mouth as we scored or let go of …show more content…
He himself went to LSU for 2 years and then ended up dropping out, but ever since his goal was to get me into LSU. Flying him to Baton Rouge would put a light in his eye that i would never forget. I would fly him there and take him front row to a LSU game. That is all he always wanted is to see a game live with me and he was never able to accomplish that, and being able to fly him there and take him to a game would make his everything, he would be so grateful. And knowing that i was able to do such a thing would make me feel accomplished. People take the places they 're from for granted or do not appreciate as much as they should. I reside in Houston now, but i will always know Baton Rouge is my home, and that’s where i want to raise my family and be able to look up and feel my dad smiling down upon us, this trip would have meant the world to him and i hope one day i will be able to look down while me and my son go to a LSU tiger game and see the pride and enjoyment that we had and what he has passed
Alabama Trip My mom and and dad told me in December that we were going to Gulf Shores, Alabama to visit my grandparents. Gulf Shores is the southernmost town in Alabama, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I have been there twice when I was little. I remember that I collected seashells and went swimming with Boppa in the pool.
Grow in South Baton Rouge wasn’t easy for Justice at all. While living in South Baton Rouge he attended McKinley Senior High School, which was a nightmare for him. He was bullied and it made him feel like he was nothing. He had already lost his dad to a car accident, and that was something he couldn’t get it out his head. With all this going on he knew he couldn’t let his mom and sister down.
Ole Miss vs. Stetson. When we got to the stadium my aunt gave me some money so I asked my dad “Can I go get a drink and some popcorn?” He said “Yes.” When I went to the concession stand I got what what I wanted. I came back the game was about to start.
We took only the essentials and traveled to New Orleans, where family was waiting to take us in. I didn't like the idea of leaving the only home I had ever known, but I liked New Orleans all the same. During my teen years, I wrestled with the idea of returning to New York, but I found a certain comfort in NOLA and so I eventually decided to stay.
Being from Louisiana, I was raised to always have my own back. My family is very big, I have 3 sisters, 2 brothers. I live with my mom and step-dad and occasionally visit my biological dad and step- mom. My family are encouraging and sometimes can be helpful. They expect the best from me being that I am the oldest child.
The community I grew up in central Texas celebrated my heritage, honored differences in culture, and fostered personal growth and self-discovery. My parents, with the strong work ethic they developed on their family’s farms in Ghana, encouraged my brother and me to work hard and find ways to use our skills to be of service to others, which wasn’t hard to do growing up in Austin with its many avenues to become involved and take care of the community, whether it was helping to direct families through the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park during the winter or raise money for educational programs for underprivileged kids in the area through working the concession stands at the University of Texas at Austin. It was this collaborative mindset that Austin
Life is based on a foundation of decisions and circumstances compiled on a precarious perspective of the user. The structure often relies on small and often overlooked elements. They receive no recognition, yet are the very reason for its prosperity. Trade towns and old docks are the lifeblood of the world, but best suited away from the public eye. Meant for the undesirables to deal with.
Getting down to Nebraska was harsh and the trail was dusty. The children like me had to take care of the animals. Jim, Antonia and myself became really good friends after living next door to each other for a while and we do everything together. When I work, I help my dad to plant and harvest crops and hunt for food. We planted and harvested corn, potatoes, pumpkin, wheat, peas, carrots and tomatoes.
Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, I have been surrounded by ‘black success’ instead of just ‘success’ for the duration of my life. The blacks in my area are equally as successful, if not more accomplished than, the non-blacks, but we are always titled separately and put into a captive box. The box we are held in told young girls that they should aspire to be athletes, cosmetologists, or plain unemployed. The same box told young men that they could only be considered “somebody” if they were able to catch a ball well. These are occupations we would ‘best be suited for’; these are occupations that perpetuate the box.
A thrill for the speed From the time auto mobiles were created, someone has had the idea to race them. Some people race illegally and some race on a regulated track. A new track has brought itself to light in New Orleans. Not very popular with common conversation but to a “gear head” like my step farther. My step father, Mr. Russ, came across this track shortly after it was finished being built.
If I could pick where I would want to go back for a day I would have no problem deciding. It would be the Dominican Republic because I miss the crystal clear water and sun beating down on on me. What I miss the most is snorkeling in the water and seeing all the different kinds of fish. There were several ugly and pretty fish. My dad, mom and sister went there for our Christmas in 2014.
The city is known for its culture, creativity, great food, and our different music. New Orleans has always been home for me until, the unthinkable happened. No, our city isn’t always filled with tons of fun. We have suffered a dramatic change over a decade ago. Although it was so long ago, our city still isn’t the same as it was before.
A couple years after Hurricane Katrina, my parents finally decided it was time we left New Orleans and moved somewhere that was safer; they settled on the modest town of Church Point. While living in Church Point, I attended a very limited middle school, where I made lifelong friends. When it came time to decide which high school I went to, I was torn between going to a school with my friends or the high school that had been recommended to me by my advisors. Considerably, I decided to continue going to school with my friends. While in high school, I remember on one of the standardized tests, there was a questionnaire that was supposed to guide you in determining what industry you wanted to seek.
The trip I researched was the hunting trip to South Dakota. I want to go to South Dakota because there are a lot of ducks in South Dakota. I know a few people that live in South Dakota and they shoot a lot of ducks. I would probably only take one person and that one person would be my dad. The reason I would take my dad is because he was the person that got me interested in hunting.
It was hard to believe I was headed to University of Michigan to watch the Wolverines play Akron in football. It was my first time going to the Big House. Our tickets came late, we had to print off four copies to get in . We got there so early we tailgated with some students. Then went to buffalo wild wings for drinks and to use the bathroom before we went in the stadium.
