Key Club has given me fantastic opportunities to serve my school and my community. Moreover, I am so happy I have the opportunity to help others find places to serve. At Jenks East Elementary, I help a third-grade teacher manufacture some of the arduous, yet necessary facets of education.
Overall I am completely satisfied with my experience from History Maker Homes. Not only is the company small and feel like a family but I had a one on one experience with my supervisor that was able to focus all of his time towards teaching. I have learned how to overcome many challenges. I have continued to build on my education from classes I have taken. My internship has become a valuable learning experience that I will continue to build on when I start back at Texas A&M University in the spring.
In my sophomore year of high school, I had the opportunity to make a real change in the world. My 10th grade English teacher gave us an assignment to chose a organization of our choosing that is helping a cause that we feel needs more attention. We were then told that we would have to present our cause to a small group of people and try and convince them to support our cause financially. I saw this as the best opportunity to actually walk through life and know that I actually changed something in the world for the better. I also saw it as an opportunity that I could feel accomplished about.
When watching their videos, I started to fall in love with makeup, hair, and nail products. I 'm always trying to find different ways to style my hair and new colors to do eye shadow with. Doing others hair, makeup, and nails is something I find joy in. Sometimes I 'll do my little cousins makeup and nails, but I rarely do her
After completing the project, I have a new appreciation for research papers and documentation. I was able to unearth new and exciting meanings and information behind my names that I will remember forever. I am thankful for the names my parents chose for me, and I couldn’t imagine myself with any other name than Claire Elizabeth
Although my mentee is different than me in some ways, we have found various ways to connect on other subjects. I have helped my mentee go from making C’s in all of her classes, to now being an honor roll student. We’ve worked each session on study skills, time management and organization. It has been so rewarding seeing her achieve all of her goals she has set for herself at the beginning of the year. Also, aside from grades and school my mentee struggles from a lot of changes that happens in their home.
I came to Burdick Job Corps as an opportunity to succeed and do good in life. I took the trade of facility maintence and I have already completed. I have always done well with things by learning hands on. Perhaps that is why high school is a struggle for me. I know that I can do it but the reading and stuff gets to me after a while.
Every day I try to make myself disposable to others in that same way, rather its taking time out to go to the park with my daughter or reading her a story before she goes to bed. Or rather its taking the time to be patient with my coworkers and understand their opinions and concerns in order to let them know that they are a valued member of our team overall. I have learned to live my life in a way to make others feel how I want to feel. It brings me great pride to see my daughter also doing these things at a young age. Taking time out to volunteer in the community and sacrifice for those in greater need than
Cultural Thank you to everyone who nominated me for Cultural Chair. For me, I was involved with cultural events throughout High School. I was involved with International Festival and Vietnamese New Years. I always wanted to learn more from other cultures because I know it is important to know about others if you want them to understand about your culture. It is quite unique how few cultures are similar to each other.
Luckily, I managed to land a job as a camp counselor, but something was still missing. Finally, I realized that I wanted to go back to school. Going back to school drastically changed my life. My work ethic, free time, and self – esteem have all changed my daily life for the better. When I was in high school I think it is safe to say I was a pretty good student.
