If I had to choose one activity to pursue, I would go with activity number one: assistant at Drake Dental. I would choose this one primary because it involves helping others. “We rise by lifting others” is a quote that resonates with me as I believe strongly in its message. My job, while it may be insignificant compared to others around the office, involves helping others by making sure everything runs smoothly. Whether it be scheduling an appointment, or simply greeting the patient as they walk in, my job is to ensure that the patient feels satisfied with their dental experience.

At my physician office, the staff always dress and act professionally. I have been going to my physician since I was 6, I have even job shadowed my physician. I do not recall a time my physician or his staff has ever been unprofessional. They are always dressed in scrubs or business casual. However, I was told by Shannon Jolley that "you are the very first person on our alternates’ list and will likely be awarded a position, even in the next few weeks". I received this email in early March, and understand that it I was not guaranteed a position. Regardless, I wanted to make contact to say that I am still interested in taking a position if one becomes available.

Before leaving biology lab on December 6, I had the honor of interviewing the graduate assistant-teaching for biology 211 lab. During the interview I learned a lot of things about the teaching assistant like her background information and education. Her name is Lauren L and she is a graduate student at Iowa State University. Lauren has worked at Iowa State University for five semesters as a teaching assistant for biology 211 lab. She chose the teaching profession because she truly wants to teach and get some experience teaching undergraduates.
Becoming an Anesthesia Assistant would allow me to work as a healthcare professional, help people in their time of need, and have an increasingly dynamic career. I know that my attention to detail, creativity, and critical thinking capacity developed over years working in the medical field make me an ideal candidate for the Master’s of Medical Science in Anesthesiologist Assistant program at Emory University. Ever since high school, I knew I wanted to work in the pathology field. I thought I wanted to be a pathologist. I talked to the career counselors at my school and expressed my interest. Fortunately for me, I was contacted not much after about an internship at Montefiore Medical Center. I would come to learn that Montefiore Medical Center is the teaching hospital of Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Yaneisy was born in Camaguey, Cuba and came in 2008 to United States with her family. In 2010, Yaneisy started her dental career attending Sanford Brown Institute, Tampa FL for Dental assisting. She obtained her Expanded Function Dental Assisting & Radiology Certification in 2011. Joining Dr. Powless’s Team in January 2012 she a highly skilled assistant, very caring and gentle. She treats our patients like family and is very proud to be a part of our Dental team.
A dental hygienist noticed that one of her patients was having a periodontal disease that was not noted in the chart. She tried to discuss this with a dentist by stating that her patient have a moderately advanced stage of periodontal disease. The probing results showed that some of the patient's periodontal pockets were 6 mm deep. The dentist response was not to worry about the patient and to keep cleaning out the pockets periodically. The dental hygienist did not feel comfortable treating the patient and asked a dentist to excuse her from performing a treatment.
I spent countless hours studying, shadowing physicians, and volunteering in various healthcare settings. However, as I gained more experience in the field, I began to realize that my interests and strengths were better suited for a career as a physician assistant. While I have great respect for the field of medicine and the specialized knowledge and skills that physicians possess, I found that the more holistic and collaborative approach of the physician assistant profession resonated with me. I worked closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, assisting with patient care and education. I found that I enjoyed the patient-centered approach of the healthcare team and appreciated the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with patients.
My ambition to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at University commenced in my teenage years, when I first came to London and visited the dentist. The professional approach coupled with a kind and compassionate nature and all of the different instruments and scientific technology the Dental Hygienist and Therapist used fascinated me. I am currently studying Dental Nursing at Teesside University. This course involves providing correct support to the dentist at the chair side, reassuring and supporting patients, maintaining a gold standard clinical environment, charting, dental anatomy and physiology. Studying this course has enhanced my knowledge of dental terminology and procedures as well as the anatomy of the oral cavity.

A 2009 senior survey conducted by the American Dental Education Association found that 44.3% of graduates plan to teach at some point in their career, which did not receive any formal teaching training during their study which is a component that the dental field is in high need of (Hum et al., 2014). Therefore, the emphasis on providing training in teaching and learning for future graduates is essential. The students will learn to communicate, express their opinions, thoughts, and interact to each other.
