It all started a year ago when my name got called in the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York. “With the first overall pick in the 2016 NHL entry draft the Carolina Hurricanes are proud to select Samual Cane.” It was a dream come true for me and for the organization and the fans. My draft stock went up throughout the year from being projected not to be drafted, to a clear number one above players like Austin Matthews, Matthew Tkachuk, and Jacob Chychrun. This was a miracle to most people, but this wasn’t the highlight of the season. This was the year where the first NHL game was played during a hurricane. Through the season I suffered my ups and downs. I had my great moments, and I had my terrible moments. I ended the season leading my team in points, goals, and assists, and led us to a wild card spot in the playoffs. This season was full of miracles. We were the only team in the history of the NHL to go down in each series 3-0 and come back and win it. Same happened in the Stanley Cup Final. We went down 3-0 against a powerhouse Chicago team looking for a three-peat. We came back to tie the series 3-3 with a couple of clutch goals by me and the Staal brothers. All of this led up to the final game. …show more content…
Stanley Cup final game 7. At home in the PNC Arena. I’ve been waiting for this moment my entire life ever since I could hold a stick and hit a puck. I was in my basement recreating my own version of this game day after day hoping one it will come true. Today is that day. Today is the day I’m going to win the Stanley Cup. During the season I stayed at the Staal residence with the Staal brothers, Eric and Jordan. Eric is one of the best hockey players I have ever seen. In the past couple of seasons were rough for him. He didn’t really have anyone to play with until I came around. He always joked with saying “Are you sure you’re only 18, cause you look like Wayne Gretzky out
Then Jeff Blashill (Head Coach), Jeff Hoggan (Captain), and Petr Mrazek (Goaltender) came and we were fonomanal. So back to present time… I dog pilled my friends, Alex and Christian Smith. After a hour of ceremonies, playing on the ice, and press box touring it was time to go back to the
Judging by Game 1 where the teams went into overtime with a 0-0 tie, we could already sense this was going to be the best series. Whoever you were rooting for, at least you were entertained by the most intense series of the playoffs so far. We can only hope for more series like this in the upcoming
When most hockey fans hear about the Vancouver Canucks, losing is one of the first things to come to mind. Even though the team hasn’t won a Stanley Cup during their existence, this idea of losing is false. By looking at the Canucks early years, their greatest players, and their numerous trips to the Stanley Cup Finals, a clearer picture is formed. Exploring these areas show that the Canucks were, and are, a competitive and talented team. During their early years in the NHL, the Vancouver Canucks played very poorly.
I want this so badly not only for me, but for my family. With great confidence and persistence, I tried out for the team and made it! After the long journey of watching the games as a kid, to playing hockey all my life, to practicing with the team, to finally making it; the dream had finally been accomplished. Still to this day, this is one of my greatest achievements. It was at this point that I finally became an important part of the true culture of the Hartland Hockey team.
Even though I didn’t witness it has been imprinted in my head. This was the best day of my life. What’s even crazier is that not only did I watch him win one Stanley Cup with the Hawks but I saw him win two. In 2015 when I moved to Florida the Hawks were playing the Tampa Bay Lighting in the Stanley Cup finals.
In the semifinal game we had won in a very lucky play stopping the other team from scoring. However, that game was behind us now. We had to focus on the thing we had been waiting for all year, the championship. All of us were nervous, but knew we were ready. The year before we had lost to this team.
The worst day of my senior year all started one cold November morning, I was sitting at the breakfast table in silence. It was not because I had just woken up, but because I was focused. Extremely focused, the type of focus a person experiences from wanting something more than anything. There was one thing I was not expecting from that day, and that was feeling what it felt like to play my last high school football game. That morning I watched nothing but football, and studied film on the Palmyra Panthers.
Confetti cannons shot all around us. We were on the floor hugging each other tightly. No one needed oxygen, we just wanted the trophy. I collected the banner and trophy as we took a team picture; I smiled past the tears. The crowd was chanting our name and the whole stadium was lit up by the harsh white lights.
It was a city of lights and sounds. Lights lined the streets of Broadway. The city was a town of music, music city to be exact. As you walk through the street, music came from every bar, every restaurant. The air in the street smelled of smoke, and alcohol.
I notice one of my teammates Sebastian scoring and the whole team starts celebrating. As five more minutes pass and finally remember hearing the final whistle and I see everyone celebrating as we have won the championship. As we were done celebrating and packing our stuff we went in a room where I could see the big
Flames older prospects ready for the big stage The Calgary Flames have been able to quickly assess whether or not a number of their prospects are ready for NHL action over the last few years. With Sam Bennett, Micheal Ferland, and Joni Ortio playing a role in the team’s recent success, there are a number of players behind them working to do the same. The Flames prospect pool is interesting because skaters who play professionally outnumber those who play junior or amateur hockey by a decent margin. The Flames penchant for patience, both in preferring older CHL players and allowing their collegiate prospects to play-out their four years, results in an older and more experienced prospect pool.
The smack of the stick on the ice echoed in the arena, and for a moment everyone’s breathes went still and silent. 6… The puck bounded at the net like a dog after a cat. 5… The loud ringing of the puck off the post met everyone’s ears, and as the puck bounced in slow motion and swished to the back of the net, it sent my team into hysterics. I had finally done it. I had been a game
As I got to the rink put my gear on and tape my stick I think about all of the things that I must do in order to win the game. After a sad loss we then
It was 3:30 by the time we were finished eating in pre-game, and time to relax and get ready for the game. The first thing I remembered was being asleep being woken up by Coach Fresina to get up and go get taped. Doing my Friday routine, I got dressed into all my apparel for the game and put my headphones on all the way up and went into the training room. There standing there was my best friend Trinity waiting to tape my wrists. I took off my wrist bands so she could tape my wrists.
I knew that no matter what happened, scouts would not notice me. There were too many talented athletes playing around me that I would just be another addition to the team. I wanted to be the best. I needed a change. On December 13, 2014, I left the defending provincial champions for a team which had not won a game in two years.
