If you want something you have to go get it.Nothing in life will be handed out. The baseball field in my view as i approached it. It was a cold spring day. When i found out that hard work pays off if you try.
It was fall of my eighth-grade year, and I couldn't wait for basketball tryouts. I had been practicing all summer trying to prepare for my first basketball tryout. Then I heard the school bell ring meaning tryouts was in ten minutes. Nervously, I walked into the gym and saw a lot of kids trying out who have played their whole lives; then the coach blew the whistle and we all started warming up. At the end of tryouts, I thought I played great and I was excited to come back for the second day of tryouts the next day. I could barely sleep that night all I was thinking of was playing again. I woke up super early and ran as fast as I could to the school. The second day of tryouts began and the coach said not everyone would make the team, this made
I have been playing soccer since before I could even walk. In fact, I joined my first soccer team at the age of five. Soccer is something I have always loved and been passionate about. When I was on the co-ed recreation league teams I was one of the only girls on my team, so I had to compete with boys who doubted me and thought I was weak. I worked hard during practice and out of practice to become better and, eventually, I became more aggressive than them. My eighth-grade year, I tried out for the school’s co-ed soccer team and was confident that I would make the team. During the three hard days of try-outs, I pushed myself to improve each day and received several compliments from the coaches. On the last day, the head coach pulled me aside to tell me
Anthony Keith Gwynn, if I were to say his full name like that most people wouldn’t know who I was talking about, but if I were to say Tony Gwynn then it is a whole different story. Yes, I am talking about the Tony Gwynn who played for the San Diego Padres, and later become one of the most decorated baseball players of all time. Yet, just because he was such a successful baseball doesn’t man he never failed. His failures are what made the man so successful, and just like me I failed quite often. The game of baseball is full of failures, one being a persons batting percentage. A good batting average in the MLB is around .333, that would mean that every three times that someone is up to bat
The Thursday night lights beamed down on me as kickoff approached. It was the last game of the 8th grade football season and the last chance to make my mark on a personally rather ordinary season. We were playing Celina, a team known to be a powerful opponent. I was on the kickoff return team, playing on the far left side of the field and on that particular night we were set to receive the kick. The referee’s whistle pierced the warm and soundless autumn air. The opposing kicked charged towards us like a stampede of animals as the kicker struck the ball. I realized the kick was an onside kick but at that moment it was too late the ball whizzed by my head; I froze, unable to think or move a crowd of players had trampled me. As I lay on the ground I played the scene over and over in my head desperately looking for some justification for my failure, and as it played in my head I
I came back with a team that was craving a championships and a positive season because we were a good team this year and we all believed we could make it all the way as champions. Our soccer team overall record was 7-7-1, We achieved only one goal that year and that was to have a positive season but we didn't achieve our second goal which was to be champions. We could have been able to make it to the playoffs but we had students that were ineligible when we had crucial games to play and ended up losing those crucial games. If we had no players ineligible we would have achieved our second goal and possibly would have been champions of the Tri Valley league. Senior night which was our last game of the season we played against skyline which if you didn't know were the champions last year and killed us last year. We did good the first half and left them goalless but when the second half started they got a quick goal on use and scored their first goal of the game. That early goal that they scored lead them into scoring two more goals later in the second half and ending the game 0-3. At the end of the game after we shook hands with all the opposing side and referees we had a group talk. Jay told everyone that he was so proud of us that we achieved so many things this year that he was excited for the season to come. After the group chat, Jay came up to me and asked me how being a captain
During my high school year, I had joined the color guard team. Trying out for and being on the team had taught me a lot about myself and what I expect from myself. I had tried out for the team twice.
On the Friday we moved in to Vail, at our hall meeting, our RA asked who wanted to do a flag football team. Most of us were interested and so our whole hall made a team. The games started in September and continued to October. They were almost every week. We did really well and won a lot more games than most of us thought we would. We ended up going to the championships. The game was against Zeta at the big stadium. It was a really good game, we ending up losing. Even though we lost, it was fun and great way to get to know my hall better. I am definitely not good at football, but it was still a good time. In the beginning of the year I hung out with my hall a lot because I did not know many people yet. We all drifted apart once we found our
Well there we were we had one more team to beat to get the state champs title. I 'm the Oakland thunder 's half back and i 'm a line backer. I 'm 16, and 210 lbs i can hit. We just got here and i lead the warm ups we were doing hitting drills at that point, that 's when things went bad we all hear a snap and we all crowd around our quarterback. John and me carry him to the ambulance they had to take him to the hospital, it turns out he broke his femur because one of our lineman fell on him. Coach was then trying to find a replacement because our backup was out because he crashed his ATV. I knew i was the only person on our team that had played quarterback but that was four years ago. I stepped up we put our backup running back in he was a good
During practice we did this drill for the starters. As I was sitting on the silver, cold bench, coach called my name. I was very surprised and my heart started racing. “Matty you will be starting forward now”. I was so nervous of course I didn’t want to do bad and I was only a sixth grader. But I played good and started for the rest of the season.
It was my time it was the beginning of 4th quarter and I was on the side line waiting for the team to line up and finally it was time for kick off. Everything went in slow motion while that ball was in the air I was hoping I was not gonna drop it. The next think you right at the ten yard line that ball was in my hands and whoosh I took off just like lighting the coach was on the sidling counting saying go go go I broke off four tackles and the las tackle I broke was big I have broken free and I got my longest touchdown run. I went on the sideline and coach was so happy I told him my goal was to run 80 yards but he said you got more than 80 yo ran 90 freaking yards that 's amazing. I was
Finally, it was game day. I couldn't concentrate at school, all I was thinking about was the game. Everyone would come up to me and tell me that I was gonna crush them. Mr.Dejo, who was our coach, said that there was gonna be more than one hundred fifty people coming to the game. I have never performed in front of that many people before. I kept on saying that I was going to do great to myself. I still had a distressed feeling inside of me.
One sunny afternoon on June 6, 2012 we gathered at the neighborhood baseball field in
It all stared at Iowa, where one kid did it all. To name some like career to college to high school to middle school and many more, but there is no way to name them all. The sound of the whistle jolted me into action. I dove from the block, and a wave of silence crashed over me as I hit the water. For a moment, there was a sense of serenity as I swam under the surface. The spell broke as I rose for air. I could hear everyone yelling and cheering. Tuning out the noise, I tucked my head under the water, staring at the pool’s tiled floor. Nearing the wall, I lifted my head to gather a breath of air before my flip turn to start my second lap. Looking up, I saw five of my team members at the end of my lane cheering for me. With a renewed energy from their excitement, I turned and continued the race. After the race was over and I was out of the pool, I took my hard-earned ribbon and scurried back to where my swim
