By the time I entered middle school, I had greatly improved my English speaking, reading, and writing. I learned to embrace my accent, and take pride in my Hispanic heritage. I still can't believe how much I have grown as a person in the last 9 years. The struggles that I endured growing up, strengthened and prepared me for the future challenges I am yet to face. I will be a first-generation college student next fall, and I know that I will be successful because I have always been able to overcome the obstacles I face.
Throughout this semester, I have made many great achievements and improved my writing skills drastically. This class has helped me improve my writing skills with grammar and methods for writing. I have also learned what I need to improve on, which includes effectively using quotes and writing narrative pieces. Many of the assignments in this portfolio are argumentative; I believe this style of writing is best for me. Overall, these assignments are the best I have written this semester.
I have had many teachers throughout the years that have had a great impact on my attitude toward education. No instructor however has had such a huge impact in my life as Miss Mindy Sopher. I first saw her name as my academic advisor listed in My Pack Portal, or my online account at NC State. I had no idea what type of experience I would have with her. Last summer before my freshman year, I sent her an email introducing myself and she was quite impressed by my ambitions, especially becoming a “geographical engineer.” I couldn’t wait to meet her in person at my orientation.
How I Graduated High School Have you ever procrastinated for so long that it finally caught up to you? Well that was the story of my life in my senior year of high school. To me, high school wasn’t about learning and doing school work, it was more about hanging out with friends and living a life of leisure and free time. Needless to say, by the end of my sophomore year, everything changed and I learned things the hard way. Getting your responsibilities out of the way, and taken care of is always better done soon rather than later.
At the time, I did not know, that Mock Trial was going to change my high school career. During my first year as a trial attorney, I not only improved immensely in my public speaking and communication skills but also made new friends. After a successful year and great scores at two regional competitions, I was truly proud of our team's achievement. However, many members just seemed to be completely disinterested. That is when I decided to step up and ran for the Mock Trial President position with one main goal— to unite the team.
The English 1300 class has helped me to improve and develop my writing skills in several ways. Primarily this class has helped to reduce the stresses that I have always felt when a report or essay was asked for. Contributing and being involved in this class will have substantial influence in future English classes and all classes no matter what the subject. I have discovered that my previous classes in High School served only as minimal effort and upon entering college the rules have been amplified and are crucial to a timely completion of your classes and ultimately college. Feedback was critical and valued.
I have enjoyed this class. My big take from this course will be the improvements had to my writing process. Learning items such as brainstorming, clustering, outlining and the usefulness of a first draft, I feel my writing is improved. This will fulfill the last requirement of the course, as I have completed and submitted all the others. Thank you for an enjoyable and beneficial eight weeks together.
As the first semester of my sophomore year, and the first semester as a FIG mentor, come to a close, I realize what an adventure it was. Being a FIG mentor, I was introduced to new challenges, such a becoming leader and educator for the incoming class, to overcoming my shyness and increasing my communication skills in order to relay effectively the goals I had for the students. Overall, the FIG program has contributed to my overall growth as a student and has helped me prepare not only for my future as a professional in my chosen career field, but as a global citizen on this planet. One of the major challenges I faced entering the year was communicating with students. I often become extremely nervous and flustered when speaking in front
My journey consisted of many good and bad times, and throughout the years I discovered my strengths and weaknesses. I made new friends, took on different tests, accomplished many things. My first year was my most difficult, being new to the school, but as the years went by, school became a more fun experience for me. Knowing that the 4 years of high school was a journey for me, I was able to brace myself for the difficult times to come and the rewards I was going to receive. At the end of the journey, I had gained a lot from these 4 years, but it also prepared me for my next journey, my journey through university.
I knew I was capable of doing it. Because of my positive response my situation improved. I gain more knowledge and insight about the IB Program. Doing the IB Personal Projects helped me view the world differently and inquire about what is around me. After IBMYP I decided to enter full IB Diploma Program.
Hello Brent, it is the end of your first semester in your sophomore year, and I am writing this to you because you have successfully gotten an “A” in religion 101. You have accomplished a lot this semester and have been through a lot, but you have also rightfully deserved this “A”. You have followed helpful tips from the article “Learning” written by Robert Leamnson. You have also followed the guidelines from your syllabus and have asked for help from Dr. Zwissler and classmates. First I would like to talk to you about how you used the tips given to you by Robert Leamnson.
A full team meeting at least once a week to update its progress will also be very helpful. Our team has improved a lot since Thanksgiving, and we have been able to catch up with our timeline. Another improvement that we can make is to challenge each other’s idea more. By questioning and having doubt about each other idea, one must come up with qualitative reasoning and will result in a more polished and finished idea. 4) Next week is our last lab.
