One of the assignments I am proud of is a mini essay about how to write an argumentative paper. The point of the assignment was to show that I know the steps to writing an argumentative paper. I feel like I clearly outlined all of the steps necessary. However, I could have improved the essay by not addressing the reader.
The comments from my instructor, the online material, my research, the online writing center and comments from other students in the discussion boards have helped me so much to improve my writing skills. In the writing process, the step that I feel I have improved a lot is editing, as I am constantly reading my writings and editing them as I finish them, over and over again before I publish them. The steps in the writing process that I like the most are finding a topic in the Pre-writing step and Drafting. I like having a lot of ideas floating around and think about which idea is the best and the most exciting topic to talk about.
The structure of coursework improved my writing skills. In one experience, my peer editing session explained that my childhood story showed a simple and clear writing style, but it wasn’t concise. This feedback forced me to evaluate my story and see in what ways it could be concise along with other writing tools that I incorporated. I realized from the experience that this was the first time I focused purely on improving my writing skills rather than understanding the course content. The course enabled me to confront my weaknesses in writing that I couldn’t in other academic classes.
The reading strategies we discussed in class and in the courses content made me a better reader by showing me many different ways to read and write and understand it very well. It uses all these methods such as the KWL charts, writing a memo and reading the novel I selected helping me improve my skills greatly to become a better reader. Putting together the reading, writing oral communication and examining media all connected in helping me become a good reader and helped me to comprehend the understanding of making a personal connection to the world around you. That 's what help 's you in the future to make the the best choices possible so that later on when you make a mistake in reading you can look at the experience you had and learn how to properly correct yourself because at the end of the day they all deal with different skill set 's but all help you to become better in everything you
Grasping the many rhetorical modes Reading through this article on the rhetorical modes admittedly helped simplify the different rhetorical forms that can be used for writing in aspects of life and not just school work. As I read through the articles I began to feel more comfortable with the diverse forms of writing therefore, knowing these vast forms of writing, will not only help to better understand what the author is trying to say in any given writing, but, also help with confidently know which direction to take when composing my own literary work. Like the handout states, these different rhetorical forms of writing are, simply put, descriptions of a way to put information together so that it can be effortlessly understood by the conveyed
I have learnt what logos, ethos and pathos are and how to rebut others opinions. Overall, all the essays I wrote during this semester improved my English skills very much. My favorite essay is the summary and response for I enjoyed the process of writing this essay. Besides, I am most satisfied with my summary and response.
I also improved on my writing of theses and introductory paragraphs. As far as presenting, I learned invaluable skills such as memorization, comprehension/interpretation of texts, and physical presence/vocal projection. And I realized that a more difficult task isn’t always something to fear, but an experience to learn and strengthen skills. My strength as a writer seems to be the flow of my paper, finding good citations to support my argument, and writing in a clear manner. I still need to work on floating quotes, word choice, and synthesizing along with clarifying who said certain quotes. I am also working on scheduling more than enough time to write and perfect my essays because as much as I think I have allowed myself enough time I feel like the time is never enough.
My Writing Progression “It’s what we think we know that keeps us from learning” This quote from Claude Bernard describes my writing development this year. At the beginning of this schoolyear, I thought that I was going to go into this year and be able to breeze through this class because I could write a good essay last year and analyze stories, but I was wrong. Lit Comp Honors has been a brand-new experience for me.
As a writer one of my two strengths are coming up with a story. Whenever I write I tend to have an idea on how I want my story to start and finish. I imagine what I want to write by putting my story in point form, gathering the necessary research before I move to completing the story. I feel organization and planning is important and effective to have a good essay. Every time I write I am constantly proofreading my work.
When life throws you off a mountain, then stomps on your face about 1000 times, it’s pretty horrible. I’ve never been great at dealing with my emotions and that’s not good. I would hold them all in and that went on for 3 years, then I exploded. When that happened, I fell into a destructive state of mind. I isolated myself from my entire family and friends, it got so bad that I hurt myself the summer before I started 8th grade.
