For as long as I can remember, coding has been my background, my identity, my interest and my talent. It has been a journey that I began back in the ninth grade; a never ending affair for the world to see. The first thought I have upon waking and the last thought before my daily rest.¬ Code is the only thing in my life, that has always completed the tasks given to it, was never lazy and it never let me down. It is a very interesting story actually. It was the sixth grade, the year of my Grade Six Achievement Test, which is the national exam that determines which high school you attend based on your grades. Due to the “dire” nature of this exam, parents and teachers maintained a general consensus that additional classes were needed. This was the first time there was a computer in my household of five. I had always been in constant interaction with the computers at school which were reserved for “special” (paying) students, however, I always found myself making use of one somehow. This journey all started with that computer: that Acer laptop. …show more content…
One of these subjects was Information Technology. The majority of the course work had to be done on a computer coupled with assignments to be prepared electronically belonging to the other subject areas. This was the match that started the fire. I would get home, complete all house tasks as soon as possible and to the laptop I went. There was such a plethora of activities that could be done on these machines. Gradually, my mind began shifting from these activities, to the structure behind these activities. This was to be magnified a year
At this time of year, I begin to look back at my life after 12 hard years of schooling. Throughout the course of my life, there have been many ups and downs, but these up and downs is what made me who I am today. These influences have shaped my values, attitudes and beliefs towards life. There have been many important people and events that has impacted my life. One of which is family and the media.
The Connection that is Disconnecting People Are electronics and social media reducing learning, connection, and focus? In the essay “Leave Your Laptops at the Door to my Classroom,” Darren Rosenblum answers this question. Rosenblum talks about laptops have become a distraction to learning in his classroom and decrease connection; he also mentions that laptops are an escape from hard work. Rosenblum effectively discusses how laptops and social media are reducing education, focus, and connection.
Throughout all of my years in school I couldn't tell you of a time where I would find myself without access to a computer in school. The computers where popping up everywhere, from music class even to art class, it seemed like computers where always around. Even during recess there was the option to stay inside and play on the computer at my school. There would be days where it was beautiful outside and I decided instead to stay inside and play on the computer.
I had always worked with computers but had never considered how they worked. I found the material fun and engaging. I felt as though I could create anything from the cascading amplifiers used in radios to the IR trip alarm that I made in the class as a side project. I kept asking myself why more people did not do things like this, how many more people were missing out on this great discovery that was given to me, through the instruction of the TCAT Newbern campus. During my stay at the Newbern campus, I placed second in the State for electronics, had achieved my CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Net+, through just ONE class alone.
Throughout my life I have come from and created a few identities for myself. Perhaps, the most dominant identities that have been apart of my life are being an athlete and being a family orientated man. In this paper I will write about how my identities have shaped my life. First off I believe my biggest identity is being an athlete.
It was a taciturn gloomy morning, the year of 1862. The 12th of September. At the end of it, I might be with my family again or buried someplace underground. It was my time to go into battle as soon as I finish saying goodbye to my loved ones. The tears slid down my wife’s face and my daughters lingered into their mother’s arms to cover their dripping faces.
Governor’s School Essay Response Ever since I was young you could always find me toying around with objects trying to figure out how they worked. Taking them apart, studying them, and then reconstructing them back together was a usual past time for me. Looking back I realized that all of the time I spent on learning how something worked was the foundation that flourished into my passion for engineering.
Then we tried the computer lab, but you guessed it, it was booked up. We were stuck in the old library with no computers, no way of accessing Magnolia, and no way of typing this research paper. My classmates came up with the idea to bring our own laptops. Well, not everyone has their own, so we decided to borrow the school’s Chromebooks. We had a plan, we just might make this
In today’s modern society technology plays a huge role in everyday life. Technology has a big position in education. Today students use laptops for school on an everyday basis to take notes, work on assignments, and research. Many people agree that, when it comes to education, technology can either be very harmful or very helpful. Timothy D. Snyder, a history professor at the University of Yale has written five award-winning books.
Since some schools are more open to the idea of intertwining technology with learning, some factors should be considered before transitioning. Before integrating technology into curriculums, schools should consider possible addiction that students may acquire, lack of skills and short attention spans that may result from technological exposure, as well as the positive potential that technology has- like easy access. In the end schools should focus on both the negative and the positive side to rule out which one outweighs the other. Being exposed to technology at first can have an exciting effect on the user, overtime this can lead to addiction. Younger generations especially, can easily get captured by the contents on their computer as most of them “prefer picture to words” (Source E).
The key events of technology implemented into the classroom has an impact on what is going on in today’s classroom. The first key event that occurred included
Yet my new dream to become a Computer Engineer was all the more swelling exceedingly so much so that I could not put-up with it. I remembered saying to myself many time that, ‘reaching this one is going to be a must, with or without a parent, an aunt or anyone else’. I made plans to go back to school again. This time to study Computer Engineering Technology. This was a major point in my life.
Your name is who you are; it’s the essence of your being. You and your name will go through thick and thin, young and old, and life and death together. You two are forever inseparable, like brother and sister, white on rice, or a fat boy and triple chocolate cake. My name happens to be Mykel. To many people I encounter in life, phonetically pronounce my name as “Michael,” “Mukal,” or even “Mah-Kawyll” by my Southern eleventh grade AP English teacher, Ms. Clawson, who always butchered my name with different pronunciations for the first two months of the quarter, and somehow managed to make it sound similar to an imitation crow call by an amateur bird caller.
There are several aspects to my photo that contribute to my argument of who I am as a person. A large part of my life is robotics. I have always had a dream to become a mechanical engineer and that dream has been present throughout my entire life. The object to the left of the picture is a robot created out of LEGOs with the processing power and capabilities of a robot. LEGOs have put me on my way to become an engineer.
Looking up from my reading my history book I realize something I have become so accustomed to: the amount of technology being used in the classroom. Everyone is on their school issued iPads. Some appear to be glued to the screen like they’re watching something, and others look like madmen with their fingers flying across the keyboard, trying to keep up with the lecture. The lecture is on a laptop which is connected to a projector, putting it up on a Smartboard. Long gone are the days of blackboards and chalk.
