I am interested in taking pre-AP World History because I want to be ready for AP courses. Taking both pre-AP and AP classes will help me get into the college of my choice. I enjoy learning about the past, including the Holocaust and Great Depression, so that I know how good my life is now. I also enjoy being in harder classes because I like having to work hard to keep an “A” in my classes. I want to be able to learn from mistakes, and in easier classes, I don’t make as many. Being in pre-AP World History now will help me decide if I want to take AP and college-level courses later on in high
The most thought-provoking book I read this summer was The Hot Zone by Richard Preston. Not only is this book fast paced keeping you with the urge to read but it also focuses on real events leaving the reader to wonder why it is said that history repeats itself. I chose this book to focus on because of the close connection the story seemed to hold to recent events in history. The Ebola outbreak was the center of the media’s attention recently because of all the harm it caused in Africa and the fact that a virus could be so destructive, managing a large scale outbreak, is a massive threat to life as we know it. My reason for taking AP World History was really quite simple.
During my sophomore year, Advanced Placement United States History class quickly became my favorite course. I was one of the youngest in my class, surrounded by mostly upperclassmen who seemed to know exactly what they were doing. Intimidated by this class, I poured myself into my studies and fell in love with history, especially the creation of the United States. The debates between Federalists and Jeffersonians about the future of America, the enactment of Enlightenment ideals in this new experiment of a country, the creation of the Articles of Confederation, and then the Constitution, and later all the Amendments fascinated me. The complexity of all these issues and the fundamental question underlying these issues, how to create the best government, piqued my interest in a way completely different than the formulas and equations of my Chemistry classes.
I have learned so much from my high school american history course so far and I’m genuinely shocked by how interesting the information we are learning is. When I generally think about history it bores me but when I started learning about history this year everything changed. I think it’s very important to know history because without those historic events we quite possibly wouldn’t be where we are today. So that’s what I will be trying to do.
Taking arts and humanities courses is very important especially if its not part of a students major. Students in America need to take these courses seriously since they help develop their critical thinking and decision making skills. Also these courses help students get a better understanding on how people in different cultures live and helps teach students empathy. Without art and humanities courses citizens would become work horses with under developed critical thinking and decision making skills. Students should always evaluate the importance of each class they have to take, Despite the inessential of these courses depending on your major you never know when these skills you develop from these courses will become
This semester was very insightful. American History is essential to society and the path she is going. The importance of history is revealed in our Hollitz: Thinking through the Past. It portrayed just how important our founding fathers described their journey. The Declaration of Independence paved the way to freedom.
The reason that I’m taking AP Literature is because I would like to understand different style of writing and how the author tries to sway the audience with their words. Another reason that I decided to take this class is because I want to be able to write better essay and learn how to get my point across without making it harder for people to understand. I also want to make a difference in the world with my words which has a big impact on people. I want to be able to write my story of what I have been through and how it has impacted my life but has made me stronger than I was before, and that anyone get through anything if you have support from others. I also am not taking the class for college credit but it would be nice to have it.
As a former AP Lang student, I feel that this class has been very beneficial for me in that it has allowed me to apply the techniques and strategies I learned last year toward more relevant subjects. Having the freedom of choosing topics to write about for our various essays made this class more enjoyable than the other English classes that I have taken. AP Lang focused heavily on the techniques of writing solid essays, but instead of writing about useful topics, we analyzed the short stories provided on the exams. Writing a personal narrative essay was very helpful in my college application process and allowed me to employ the same kind of strategies that I learned in class into my college essays.
Flashback to my junior year. I sat quietly in my AP Lang class as my teacher, Mrs. Fisher, announced that the reading competition between the language arts classes called for the book count for September. She stood at the board, marker in hand, staring out expectantly at her large class. Hands shot up across the classroom, and my own nervous hand rose up to join them. Mrs. Fisher happily chalked up the small fortune of books that our class had read.
AP classes can be very beneficial to students. These courses reduce the amount of money and time spent in college. They also are more beneficial than college intro classes. Lastly, these classes help prepare you for the workload of college. AP courses reduce the time you have to spend in college.
In my future, I hope to continue the skills I have acquired during this English class. I think that they will be very obliging to me, nevertheless of what I am trying to achieve. In this course, I was encountered with deadlines, instructions, and assignments that I could not work around. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me comprehend that I could definitely take the next step forward in life.
In past years I have taken web design, intro to java programming, and game design. At first I was planning to take an easier set of classes for my senior year but I looked at the classes from Embry-Riddle and decided to challenge myself. One of the other AP classes I ended up in was government politics. In this class there is a lot of overlapping issues with government and cyber forensics.
There were two crucial lessons I learned through my study of World History. Both of which will stay with me not only through my educational pursuit but with me through any field that I plan to pursue a career in. The first assignment that I have included is a set of notes that I took in World History. These were the notes taken that I planned to study off of to pass my upcoming exam. Being someone who was horrible at note taking and studying, I knew that this was my only option to passing the upcoming exam.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
When I first enter the class, it was full of strangers and I initially felt uncomfortable in the class, but this quickly changed. In this rigorous, fast-paced course, I was forced to learn American history on a tight timetable. I was not used to working in that type of environment resulting in a C in the AP course, but during the semester break, I did everything from buying prep books to making timelines; my approach led to great success in the second semester. Nearing the AP exam, I worked with my classmates and teacher to form study groups before and after school. Evidently, I learned the information and passed my AP U.S. History exam.
I am very dedicated to learning all that I can so that I will be prepared for college and I see this class as especially important for my future. As a veteran of an intensive honors and advanced placement schedule, I see the work load that I will receive in this class as not an issue compared to what I have been capable of in the past. In college, I plan to continue religious studies.
