On Monday, both Mr. Levine and our paralegal were gone, so it was just my on-site mentor, her husband (who was recruited to help out), and me in the office. For a large portion of the day, I was on the computer and answering phone calls. The phones weren 't too crazy, thankfully. My main purpose for being there was to help my on-site mentor as much as possible. I don 't know how to do even half of what the paralegal does, but I knew enough to help with standard office stuff, like scanning papers and drafting subpoenas to be sent out (mostly for personal injury cases, but for family law cases as well). On Tuesday, both Mr. Levine and our paralegal were gone again, but this time it was just me and my on-site mentor in the office until it

Donna Meader and I met with Lois Ryan, Allison Conklin, and Kim Warren on 3/17/16 from 10:30 to 11:30 regarding Jackie Watson’s FMLA. The meeting was scheduled by Chris Flyntz specifically to inquire about what options Chris has as a supervisor and what choices the agency has as a whole in regards to Jackie Watson’s continued absence from work. To begin the meeting, Chris provided each attendee with a copy of a calendar which is used as a tracking device for Jackie’s FMLA hours as well as non-FMLA hours. The calendar presented recorded Jackie’s absences from April 13, 2015 to current (FMLA hours were typed in, while non-FMLA hours were hand written in). It was noted that Jackie’s current FMLA paperwork received from her doctor indicates that she may need to miss work intermittently 1-2 times per month with each episode.
He told me that it was customary and that I started work on Saturday, two days from now. The songs on the radio all cried for my vanishing happiness. On Saturday my mother basically had to force me out of the house. I hated the pastel pink shirt and everything about this job; little did I know that this would quickly change.
The best advice she would offer to any one pursuing a Paralegal Certificate or Degree to stay on top of court rules and ask
FACTS All states and lawyer depend on state laws, Supreme Court ethics, legal ethics opinions and other stated regulation. Recently, the Supreme Court of Virginia declined the adoption of carefully formulated formal rule governing its paralegals. They were the proposed regulations that provided an imperative compendium of paralegals ‘pros and cons’.
The supervisors were lacking communication with each other. One supervisor left for the day, but did not tell the
I know that we had degust on how to take note on how my date went on the days I’m scheduled to work at The Salvation Army. On October 24, 2015 I came to work knowing that I wasn’t still feeling very well. Michelle Sweeney came in to work with me since Ro had a vacation time that need to be used. Admitting new attorneys and disciplining those who break the
At Kilgore & Kilgore, I worked for 3 attorneys. Some days I was given work by all of them. With experience you usually can tell what is a priority and what you could put off until the next. But there always comes a point where have a long list of tasks and everyone’s is the most important.
At my high school, the Beta Club is the most elite, respected, and prestigious club. It is filled with the leaders, the doers, the hard-working, and the individuals who turn their dreams into reality. It is not for everyone, and in our ever-changing society, that is clear. Most people today do not like to rise up to the ever-growing challenge of leadership. It takes a certain kind of person to be a good leader, and the Beta Club has greatly helped me in doing so.
Attorneys are encouraged to participate in pro bono legal efforts. However, there are many opportunities for lawyers to make a difference in their downtime that go beyond donating their legal skills. From volunteering to mentoring, there are plenty of ways lawyers can assist others outside of their law practice. It’s beneficial for everyone involved.
This year, I experienced both a personal and academic obstacle that correlate with one another. In January, I started the year long Medical Assisting program at my school. Prior to beginning this program, I was so excited to be getting a medically centered education, and learning about the field I wanted to expand my career in. After entering the program and learning that there is so much more to medicine than just taking care of patients, I began to lose my interest. This was shocking to me since, my whole life up until this year, I believed I was going to become an amazing medical doctor.
1. A paralegal is “A person who performs certain substantive legal work for and delegated by a lawyer”. Paralegals will assist attorneys with clerical duties along with, meeting clients and keeping in contact with them, assisting in trials, take care of legal documents and proceedings, as well as planning and developing case information. To me they are the lawyers “backbone”.
The first half of this semester was swift and I can’t believe how fast it passed by. College is a whole new world for me that I had never imagined with a lot of new experiences that I hope will shift me into a better and smarter person. There are more things I can do in college that I would have never dared to do in high school and I am happy for these new freedoms. I am able to eat in class, leave class without asking and they don’t care if I pay attention or not. My high school teachers would always tell me to wait for the bell, sometimes would not let me leave and if I did not pay attention they would yell.
