Maurer & Smith describes geopolitical community as a geographical area or place (2013 ). My personal geopolitical community is a master planned community located in the San Joaquin Hills in the southeastern corner of Orange Country, California. Show MoreThe diversity that may be found all around the world and in our very community has always fascinated me. I am aware that it is a widely held belief that being a minority is considered a disadvantage in various aspects and I would disagree with this. Diversity and culture is a two-way street- as a community, whether that be society as a whole or simply a freshman class, we have the potential to be able to learn from each other. I believe that my status as an underrepresented minority has shaped me into the person I am today. Despite moving to the United States at a young age and being a first-generation college student , I am grateful for the privilege to be able to further my education at the University of Utah.
Most people make the assumption that a community is made up of people who live near them when really it could be made up of people from all over the world. The word “community” can mean many things to different people and everyone has their own opinion on what it means to them. To me community means a group of people who all share the same interest, likes, and who are willing to come together and help one another in times of need. That is why I strongly believe that even if you are on the opposite sides of the world from one another you could still come together and be apart of a strong healthy community. To create your own community with others even if it is through the internet is very simple and you really just have to be willing to accept
I was going through boxes looking for something, anything that would help me finish this project. My teacher just handed out an essay that we have to do on the history of a family member . My Dad told me if we have anything it would be in the trunk upstairs, but there were only trinkets in the trunk. I resorted to scavenging through the boxes in the attic. I gave up after finding nothing except a picture of some man sitting on a pony.
Society is fooled into believing in the applied connection among people. Benedict Anderson’s idea of imagined communities emphasizes that, “… the members of even the smallest nation will never know most of their fellow-members, meet them, or even hear of them, yet in the minds of each lives the image of their communion” (5). Members of neighborhoods, cities, states, or countries feel a sense of unity with other members for living in the same place or maybe having the same basic values, but true unity comes from understanding the similarities among each other, considering the impact a person can have on another, and caring about lives. Recognizing the importance of lives being socially intertwined is necessary to sustain a considerate society.
There are several hard-working people found in these communities that are sacrificing everyday for their families and attempting to make a difference in their
Community in the dictionary means a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. Everyone belongs to a community or considers themselves a part of one, however communities tends to take away individualism. Anna Quindlen, author of “Commencement Speech at Mount Holyoke College”, spoke to the graduating class and delivered a speech on the effects of society on individuals. The purpose of this was to lead and guide the graduates into a happier life. Being true to self can only bring happiness, conforming to mold never designed to fit will only cause discomfort and unhappiness.
Rebels Without a Cause Not very many people have affected me in the same way as my friend Jake Fernholz. I have never realized the influence he has had on me until someone pointed out that we talk and think the same way. I only met Jake two years ago in track, when a pulled hamstring injury caused Mr. Kellerman to have me practice with the long distance kids. Mr. Kellerman forced me into staying on the long distance team and that is where I started to hit it off with Jake. It took me a long time to be comfortable with Jake, but when I did we quickly found our common interests.

Upstage is back, downstage is front, right is left, left is right, out is up, break a leg but don't really, wings have nothing to do with birds, the catwalk doesn’t involve cats, and when the stage manager says move it means move. The theatre vocabulary is very confusing for the outside world, but for me it is my second language. More specifically, I have developed a passion for the technical elements of theatre over the years. The joy of being the “people in black” that can make amazing sets and produce incredible plays which goes unnoticed.. Although this discourse is much small yet complex it has helped me find out who I am but also in my academic skills through learning how to work in teams, solve problems independently but also how to be
Even though I have never been on an airplane, I consider myself an international traveler. I live in the U.S. but I also have Lebanese immigrant parents. When I was younger, I used travel back and forth across international borders to fulfill my daily routine in one city. But; I was never Arab enough to fit in with “Arab” natives, and being Arab means that I would never be considered “American” enough.
Mary Louise Pratt’s essay “ Arts of the Contact Zone” opens up a new concept for social spaces where cultures meet in a context of extensive differences of power in social and intellectual classes. Pratt has a lot of thoughts regarding contact zones and communities that she supports by describing different scenarios. The contact zone is a place of many emotions. It can be a dangerous place where people misunderstand each other, but it can also be a place where people learn from each other and have a mutual understanding.
The word community is explained by the Oxford Dictionary as “people of a district or country considered collectively, especially in the context of social values and responsibilities; society.” A community is determined by shared characteristics which could include location, culture, race, or beliefs. The common characteristics of a community can also dictate who belongs and who does not. Maycomb County was a community with a defined structure.
The world is filled with people, and like snowflakes, each person is not the same as another. Each person identifies with different aspects of their lives to create their own personal identities. I personally identify with my Italian side of my family to help form who I am today. I have found myself connecting with this side more so than the other parts of my identity. It affects how I live my life by becoming the center to the culture surrounding me.

Sometimes, the internet or book may not have all of the answers to our questions and
