My salient identity is being Asian with parents that are immigrants, and are also in the lower middle class category. Being Asian to me falls into the conflict theory. The conflict theory to me is if you are poor, you have less resources to climb into the next wealth class. My parents showed me that you don't need much to help yourself. Sometimes it can be good to be Asian, more is expected out of you when it comes to your parents, and it can really motivate you to do better. When you fail or cannot please your elders it brings a deep feeling of shame and disappointment. Growing up in the lower class creates a drive for individuals of all races.
