On the other hand, non-traditional families can be said to be better for society as the societal status quo is challenged encouraging tolerance, though the weakness remains that this model results in higher poverty and rate of delinquent children. One of the key features which define traditional families is their abidance to role expectations, specifically gender role expectations which are ultimately transmitted to the children. Raising children in such a setting yields the advantage of producing children who are more balanced. Certain biological approaches have looked at unravelling the differences between the two sexes with the common belief that women are perceived to be
Xing explains that using these techniques in a documentary brings to life the picture of the Asian American experience (Xing 113). As the main subject of the film, Jeremy Lin’s story of struggles and success has a huge impact in the society, especially in Asian American communities. His story will inspire Asian Americans to not give up on their dreams, because success will be achieved through their hard work and perseverance. The model minority stereotype is the idea that Asian Americans are more likely to achieve success compared to other minority groups (Xing 47). I am an Asian and I am not really good at math.
Some immigrants are treated unfairly and should be given the chance to a better life. Some immigrants don’t have the money to get green cards or basic things everyone needs to become a citizen. We should try to help them financially. People like Ascentra help these people get the things they need. They help them by helping them get jobs, getting health care, learning English and other important things.
I believe this because of the connections that they hold and the knowledge that they attain about life as they’ve grown up is just better. In a way, I feel like there more privileged in society than African Americans because of the chances they get in life. I also want to add that their unemployment rate is half the African American rate when the rate should be equal towards both groups. Although their unemployment rate is down they have the audacity to blame foreigners for taking their jobs. The general collective of Caucasians just doesn’t want to say that their just lazy and will not do the same kind of jobs that foreigners will do to make
Having a baby can be exciting and scary, so if the responsibilities are shared among the parents and they spend more time with the infant or adopted child, both will see that they have less duties to take on. Because fathers and their adolescents will share a better relationship, the entire family will benefit intellectually and psychologically, and each spouse will have a better martial relationship with one another, more fathers should take a paid paternity leave. The history of Paternity leave in America is not long, but as for other countries they
A valid reason why legacies are often times more favored, is since the parents who are alumni could afford to attend that university when they were students and now their children are eligible to be accepted; chances are they are more likely to pay out of pocket since they are wealthy enough to afford it, and financial aid is of no concern to them. But for Asian-Americans, who are already less likely to be legacies, means that they could possibly come from middle income families meaning that they do need financial aid to help them afford attending certain Ivy League schools. At the end of the day, admission processes could be more bias towards legacies since they are wealthy enough to pay for their children’s schooling as opposed to most Asian-Americans who rely on the federal government to help fund their schooling. From what we can glean from this information, admissions appear to favor legacies due to the fact that they are able to pay out of pocket, which helps to directly support the school in various ways and keep its status as a top ranking private research institution reaffirming the belief that money is indeed
This is clear because all people can, have, and will feel jealousy whereas topics like religion can only apply to readers that aren’t secular. Additionally, this lesson is essential to modern society. It is especially important for people with siblings because siblinghood is a constant battle to see who gets more attention, who receives better luxuries, and who does better in life. Those who learn from this lesson might make better relations with their siblings who can help them face the
On the other hand, the privilege of an education creates a burdensome fee for many poor families, causing a rise of many illiterates. However, education as a privilege is often deeply cherished compared to a right. Education is an important aspect of life; therefore, education should be easily attained by the majority as a right, however, a higher degree of education should be a privilege. Education, gaining of knowledge and skill, defines what a person’s future would be. Parents or guardians, are the initial stage of education, teaching their children between right and wrong, also answering pestering questions from curious children.
Not only would it do that but most of all give foster children that feeling of someone important in life. They can finally feel like they were born to be someone. Someone who fights and kills of course, but that still has it’s meanings. The only downside about this is that we. It will bring money to our government, give bride to the foster kids, and give excitement to the
First of all, providing more civic educations by primary schools and secondary schools are needed. Civic education is very important to the students; it helps students to build up a correct system of value, attitude and sense of citizenships (Tse, 1997). In order to help students to build up positive moral values especially focusing the appropriate behaviors, schools should arrange more civic education to the students. Nowadays in Hong Kong, most of the schools mainly focus on the academic results of the students due to the mainstream’s value in Hong Kong is getting a well-paid job in their future as a success. But the schools neglect the moral values of the students as they think there is nothing important than the academic results of the students, the civic education will not consider as a syllabus of learning.
This is another way I support this policy. Little children in China also get a better education because of the policy. A.J. Song also says that Chinese research shows an advantage in education, “they tend to score better on intelligence tests…” He also says,” If you have more kids in your family, they’re probably lacking in education…” (Document F). Children that have a sibling have to split the attention with each other, so when they don’t have a sibling, they get a better education.
She writes about a teacher who believes that the two are directly related and leaves us with the idea that Asians and those who are Jewish are more likely to have good academic success while Black individuals are expected to have lower academic success. The teacher then relates it to each race’s culture. She states that families that are Asian and Jewish stress the importance of education while Black families do not. This direct connection between culture and success causes several racial problems between the different races (Lee, 2009). Although Asian Americans are expected to do well across these socioeconomic aspects there is data that proves otherwise.
As they were thought to be smart many felt the pressure of this because their help was sought, even though it was only a part of the American-Asian population that was successful. Plus many that needed assistance were denied and Asian-American students are expected to have greater achievements based on the stereotype. By this time Kochiyama was already involved heavily in supporting minority groups, having done so with famous figures such as Malcom X a few decades earlier. Seeing how the Asians were being treated she decided to make a speech to reach out to all Asian-Americans. The primary concern for Asian-Americans at the time was the heavy racism so that’s one piece that Kochiyama addresses in her speech.
Typically opressed by their governments or social problems back in their country, immigrants seek economic mobility and without corrupt governments or gang violence, aspiring Americans often find success. In an article by The Washington Post named “Indian Immigrants Make It Obvious That The American Dream Is ALive and Well”, “There are no absolute barriers to upward social mobility in America; that is why immigrants thrive...”(Wadhwa). Upon arriving first generation immigrants often don’t start with anything more than their clothes on their backs. Although this may seem like a bad thing at first, this actually is an advantage to them. They don’t inherit the debts of older generations and if they work hard enough can only go up the economic ladder.
As the moderating levels of prejudice and discrimination in Asian American has slightly turns to positive stereotype. Because of their achievements in education and economy, it makes Asian American less difficult to adapt to the society. The educational and economical achievements demonstrate how Asian Americans increasingly are moving toward assimilation. Therefore, the term of model minority is labeled on Asian Americans due to the accomplishment they’ve made. It is like the “American dream” that most people viewed as, having good jobs, making good money, and getting a high education, those are the American dreams that most people would think of in mind.
