2nd Grade It was Super Bowl Sunday and I invited all of my friends over for a “Super Bowl Party.” It was the first one that I had as a kid. We were all pretty wild. The kids that were there were Jacob Ennett, Travis Nelson, Evan Hassell, Luke Mattson, Mason Hemmila, Payton Marcotte, Preston Koski, and Davis Bagley. My parents had got us Little Caesar 's and pop so, after we are done eating we went outside to play football. Nine little kids fighting over a football wasn’t a pretty sight.
Over the summer, in August, I traveled to California by myself. About a week later, my brother (Austin) came by himself and a couple days after, my cousin Joseph flew over as well. We stayed at my aunt and uncle’s penthouse in downtown Los Angeles. Then on Saturday morning we set off to San Francisco in a rental car for 5 and half hours. The ride was super long but we had some beautiful sights to watch as we drove by on the warm pleasant day.
We had been on a flight for about three hours, and I was very scared, because that was my first time on a plane. We were sightseeing in Arizona for a day or two, taking pictures and shopping around the local stores, looking for cool stuff to bring home for our families. The day after, we were supposed to take a van for a 12 hour trip to Puerto Penasco, to the Penasco del Sol Hotel. That
It was a late, around nine o’clock, on Saturday April 20, 2013 when a few of us from Bear River High School decided to go to Senor Frogs to celebrate Olivia’s birthday. Olivia and I use to be best friends back in elementary school that is until we transferred to high school and she destroyed my reputation over jealousy. I didn’t care much for celebrating her birthday, however, I had been in love with her boyfriend Tyler ever since I laid eyes on him freshman year. Nonetheless, Olivia made sure he never knew who I was. I went to every school event, every pep rally, and every party just so that he would notice me, but in the end I always went home unnoticed.
It happened on June 11, 2015. My lacrosse team won our regional quarter final game the previous day—I scored my personal best of five goals and was named Player of the Game. As a reward for the win, my coach gave us a three hour practice the next day that was strictly conditioning—leaving the seniors 30 minutes to go home, shower, change, and drive to our Senior Dinner at Bowdoin College. I raced home from practice, my sweat sticking to the car leather seats, music blasting, and the wind in my hair. I had the future on my mind: playoffs, graduation, summer, and college.
A few months ago, on November 17, reddit user ‘Kensgold’ posted an open letter that shook the gaming community to its core. Kensgold, like any other 14 year old, was an avid gamer, who was introduced to loot boxes in a city-building mobile game. “It’s only a couple dollars,” he innocently said, like any other 14 year old, as he purchased his first loot box to further advance in his game. Fast forward 5 years into the future, and having spent well over ten thousand dollars, Kensgold now has a gambling addiction, working two jobs and considering dropping out of high school in order to support his expensive ‘hobby’. What went wrong?
The flight took 16 hours, technically 2 days, We’re almost to the shore of California beach, California looks so beautiful from up here, all the light scattered across the ground. We finally got off the plane, my dad which I haven’t seen in years drove us to an apartment, 3 days after Meadowbrook Middle School starts teaching, for those 3 days we went around and eat new food, greet the neighbors. The first day of a new school in years, I’m shy, so I couldn’t make any friends, it was just me and my sister for the few first weeks, during that time I lost all connections with my Vietnamese friends, they all left my group chat and I never knew why. I couldn’t make new friends, I never had to, I was in my old school my whole life, friends come and go, they usually approach my group (the whole class because the school was small) and that’s how I made new friends, but now seeing that I’m the only one without a group, I was scared that they wouldn’t accept me. I start to over exaggerate everything.
But just then, phrynosoma realised how homesick he was so then he took the raft and decided to announce the discovery in texas. So Phrynosoma started gathering food and water for the trip. Finally he started sailing to the U.S. He arrived on shore a week later and he was really excited. Just then he remembered the coins in his pocket that his mom had given him….. To be
We need to talk about ‘Wanderlust culture’ Travelling has never been easier, this much is a certainty. I was catching up with a friend who had just returned from Italy last month when, out of curiosity, I did a 5 minute research to discover the cheapest flights available in Europe, from Portugal. Imagine my surprise to find I could easily go to Paris or Milan for outrageous prices such as 20€. That’s about as much as I pay to visit my hometown, 120kms away. My mouse’s cursor hoovered anxiously over the “Buy” button.
As the night slowly slowed down, we watched a light parade, the Magic Kingdom’s fireworks and got to see the TIpp Marching Band go through Magic Kingdom. After all of the night excitement, we got to see Tinkerbell fly off of Cinderella’s castle. After the day was over, we rode the people mover back to the car. When we finally made it out of the park, we realized that we had been there for 17 hours. On the way back to our condo we talked about what our favorite thing was.
