The little boy in this photograph is me, when I was on a school trip to Sacramento. He is panning for gold in a pool of water, as many children have before him. Swish, swish, check. It is California, 2012, in the Columbia Historic State Park. Forty nine- year olds have boarded a flight to Sacramento at 5 am. On the way there, all I could hear was the sound of little children saying, “ I’m bored”, and “ When are we getting there ?”. We traveled by bus to the state park to dip our little hands in bone- chilling water and play gold-miner for the day. Each and every one of us felt like celebrities for the day.
