There are many great things about my state, Alabama. Today, I will name my 3 favorite things I love about my home. My first favorite thing about the state of Alabama would be our coastal shores of Mobile. I love the warm sand against my feet as the breeze waves through my hair. I love the sound of children screaming and laughing as they play, the seagulls flapping and screeching, and the waves crashing against the shore. I love waking up early to the gorgeous sun rise, the golden rays reflecting off the water. I love the feel of my line in the water, the slight tug at my line as i get a bite. I love the fight of the fish as I struggle to reel it in. I love the feel of the scaly, slimy fish. Even if i lose the fish, I love that it is the one that got away and the thought that I may get it again. …show more content…
I love the feel of the soft, green grass against my bare feet. I love smelling the the grill as food cooks for our afternoon family dinner. I love as we sit around the long, white table as we surround it in our chairs of all shape and size. I love as we bow our heads thanking God for our time together. I love the taste of the warm food and the golden color of the sweet tea. I love as our family tells stories as if they were yesterday despite being ages ago. I love hearing my family laugh and and playing games together. I love the smell of the smoke as we roast s'mores on the
Time. 10:19 p.m. South Florida. The traffic light rests at red for an eternity, mocking me with its condescending gaze. I quickly turned my head both directions, not a car in sight for what it seemed to be miles.
Alabama Trip My mom and and dad told me in December that we were going to Gulf Shores, Alabama to visit my grandparents. Gulf Shores is the southernmost town in Alabama, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I have been there twice when I was little. I remember that I collected seashells and went swimming with Boppa in the pool.
I have lived in Michigan for my whole life. The state of Michigan itself is a very unique place, but even more unique is the upper peninsula of Michigan. The UP is barely more than three percent of the population of Michigan. We 're known as Yoopers, many people think of us as rednecks that sit around and hunt all day. Though the opening days of hunting season means most of the teachers are gone for hunting, there is a lot more to the UP than hunting.
O-Oklahoma Oklahoma is the place I was born yet the only time I was ever there was maybe the first two to three months of my life I don’t remember obviously. I’ve always wondered what it’s like there. One day I hope to go there because I fell in love with a lot of their sports teams and I want to meet my biological brother. My favorite sports teams in Oklahoma are the Oklahoma City Thunder of the NBA, and the colleges of Oklahoma State (The Cowboys), Oklahoma (The Sooners), and Tulsa (The Golden Hurricanes). I started paying attention to the NBA when my brother Scott bought NBA 2k11 I played with every team and found myself playing with the Thunder the most, because I loved playing with Kevin Durant and Russel Westbrook.
Several individuals from different ethnicities, races, and citizenships, compose a society. The United Sates allow us to have a close interaction with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds. In my own case I have been able to interact with many incredible individuals from all over the world who come from extremely different backgrounds. I am a proud Mexican who cherishes respect towards diversity. Coming from a very suffered country I am able to understand not only what does it means to feel proud to be a Latino, but also I can feel acquainted with the pain and struggle that our community has to face every day.
I live in a minuscule town in Western North Carolina, where southern traditions are very important to the majority of the population. Such as drinking sweet tea, eating biscuits and gravy, and going to church. Here within one of those important traditions lies why I had to take such a significant risk. At the beginning of my eighth grade year of middle school, only a mere thirteen years of age, I knew I was different. However, what made me different would surely turn many against me.
Being from Louisiana, I was raised to always have my own back. My family is very big, I have 3 sisters, 2 brothers. I live with my mom and step-dad and occasionally visit my biological dad and step- mom. My family are encouraging and sometimes can be helpful. They expect the best from me being that I am the oldest child.
My home state is Texas, and a problem Texas faces is an overall mindset of systemic racism, sexism, and xenophobia. Texas is a very conservative state, thus many of the policies passed by our legislation are written at the expense of women and minorities. Although I might sound highly critical of our state government, I do not believe that these negative mindsets are deliberate attempts to put others down, I feel that it is simply an ignorance to the issues women and minorities face, and a lack of empathy. Ignorance is easily countered by thorough education. The easiest way to solve this is for us constituents of these politicians, to bring the issues that affect us to the forefront.
I had no idea about what I was going to find in Little Rock. First of all, I have been enjoying my groups company, I feel that we’re more close and united after that trip. Therefore, I liked a lot traveling there with them and I also adored the highway. It’s wonderful to admire nature while you are on the road, it reminded me some speedways in Mexico. For me, one of the most interesting places there was High Central.
Locations. My whole life has been a series of locations. My first 5 years were spent in Korea, the next 6 years in Pittsburgh, and then 5 years in Chicago. 3 major different locations in 16 years. Last year, second semester of my all-important junior year, I moved to Texas.
My residence is in Detroit, Michigan. The current mayor of Detroit is Mike Duggan. There are many people apart of the city council, here are their names: James Tate, George Cushingberry Jr., Scott Benson, Andre L. Spivey, Mary Sheffield, Raquel Castaneda-Lopez, Gabe Leland, Janee Ayers, and Brenda Jones. My classmates that live in Michigan all have the same governor, state senator, and state representative. Our governor is Rick Snyder, there are 110 members in the house of representatives, our two state senators are Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow.
Growing up in southwest Atlanta, Georgia, I have been surrounded by ‘black success’ instead of just ‘success’ for the duration of my life. The blacks in my area are equally as successful, if not more accomplished than, the non-blacks, but we are always titled separately and put into a captive box. The box we are held in told young girls that they should aspire to be athletes, cosmetologists, or plain unemployed. The same box told young men that they could only be considered “somebody” if they were able to catch a ball well. These are occupations we would ‘best be suited for’; these are occupations that perpetuate the box.
Growing up in a small, middle class town in the midwest left little cultural diversity surrounding me as a young child. Me and all of my friends seemed to be cut from the same material. For the most part, we all had two loving, caring parents, we often times did not struggle for items necessary to live, and we often times were never introduced to people much different than us. It can be quite easy to say the midwest is the worst place to raise an open minded child; that being said, I believe my first two hours in Germany opened my eyes more than anything else I have gone through in my entire life.
My Nashville, the not so famous one, rests in South Georgia, which if you are unaware is its own separate part of America. When I think of Georgia, Atlanta comes to mind. When I think of South Georgia, the home of the Confederacy comes to mind. Disregard negative connotation that the word confederacy (the slave part) has because of the sociopolitical system
When I was a child the world never seemed to stretch beyond my home town Tallahassee Florida. Through my young eyes it was so massive and expansive that I couldn’t fathom the concept of their possibly being areas existing outside of it. Out of all of the areas of Tallahassee I was familiar with, I was familiar with my neighborhood the most. I lived in a reddish-brown brick house that had a dark Oakwood colored roof on it. Up until the mid-2000’s the house was very dark to the presence of dark colored paint on the house and was often covered by spiders.
