The event that marked my transition from childhood to adulthood was moving from Indiana to California after my sophomore year. Leaving everything behind strengthened my determination to succeed, sharpened my goals for the future, and sparked my passion for environmental sciences. Aside from being a major transition point, it is also a vital part of my background. Initially I really struggled to adjust to my new surroundings, although I eventually grew into the confident young adult that I am today: eager to show the world what I am capable of. Growing up in a small community, and having a devoted loving family, I had created a niche for myself. Therefore, when I moved away from my hometown, I felt like a deep abyss had formed in my chest.
Anyways, my birthday is March 7, 1997 and I was born in Ionia Michigan. I left Michigan on a greyhound bus with my birth mother and my younger brother when I was four, so I don’t remember much about it. However, I do recall blue trucks and long walks. I don’t know what this means, but when I think about life in Michigan, this is all that comes to mind. I also obviously remember my family members which are my birth grandmother, aunt, uncle (all on my birth mother’s side), my other birth grandmother, and aunt (on my birth father’s side).
Moving out to Arizona has taught me to be bold and dauntless. It 's the greatest risk I 've taken and because of that, I plan on making many more. Taking what I enjoy most in life and turning it to a reality by creating my business. "Step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant."
I grew up in San Francisco, California and I am so happy that i did. My home state has always seemed so welcoming compared to others and it still continues to do so in my opinion. I believe that growing up in california has positively influenced me because it is so diversed and filled with endless opportunities. There are so many people from all over the world who come to california and it is an important aspect because it resulted to having me exposed to different cultures as I’ve grown up and it has changed my perspectives on many things in the world. Opportunities are also everywhere in california, for example , a program that i am attending called Breakthrough, it is a non profit organization that supports youth in receiving a good education and supports students on the path to college.
My mother grew up in a two-bedroom home in middle America—Boise, Idaho. She had a traditional family that included her mother, father, and a sister who was three years younger. For those reading my story, it might be hard to imagine why an entire family would move to a Commune in California. Let’s start at the beginning. It was a cold, Sunday morning in Boise, Idaho in 1953, and like most Sundays, my mother and grandmother headed to church services at the Owyhee Plaza Hotel.
When I was a Sophomore in High School my dad had been out of work for a couple and was forced to take a job in Odessa, TX , so he promptly moved to Texas to start his new job. My mother and I had to stay in California so I could finish high school and so she could take care of her parents. From then on, I was only really able to see my dad for a week every month or two and we were unable to keep the strong connection we had before.
One day I came back from school and in the front of our house was a U-Haul truck. So then I went to my parents and said “are we moving” and they said “we are going to Fresno California”. I was nervous and scared because I was comfortable in Modesto, California and in my school this is my hometown and now I 'm leaving it. So when we arrived to Fresno we stood there a couple of weeks and then the house had a lot of issues with water pipes, broken heater and there were a bunch more issues.
I decided to talk about how I 've never been out of the state. I have been able to go somewhere many times and it never happens. Everyone in my family has been out of the state many times but me. Everyone always talks about how they went out of the state for vacation but I can talk about going out of the state because I haven 't ever been out of the state.
It all started with the fourteen hour drive there. Sleeping, listening to music, and blocking out the complaining of my brothers. “Mommm, Carissa’s foot is touching me!” This was all I heard the whole ride there. I continue to turn up my music as loud as it will go and force my eyes shut.
I couldn’t be happier about moving to Oregon. I hate this smelly place we called home. Hi, I’m Billy and I’m 11 years old. I was born in Lawrence, Kansas, 1853.
Looking back at these stories, I can find my hopes and dreams scribbled and hidden in the text. I am hoping this class can give me the basic tools needed to excel later in life. My excitement about touring California is mainly due to the fact that I was born in the surrounding suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My family and I relocated to California the year I turned three and I have adapted to the best of my abilities.
Imagine laying on a private beach right now in California. You are sitting in a comfortable lawn chair with a front-row seat to the Pacific Ocean. You have waiters bringing you any kind of drink or food you want, and the sun is making you golden tan. Now, imagine the thrill you get while being on a roller coaster. The sun is beating down on you while you are standing in line, but the wait for the exhilarating roller coaster is worth it.
It was a warm, sunny day in late May. I was on one of the last bus rides I was ever going to take from my school to my house, with all of my friends. Laughing and joking around. My parents had gotten a new house about 45 minutes away and I was switching schools and starting new.
I am going to write about something beautiful I had seen recently. It is a sunrise . When I had saw this sunset in the sky or where ever it is. When I first laded eyes on it I just couldn 't stop thinking about it. It was beautiful.
Imagine 2 days before Christmas sitting at the table with your parents, what would you be talking about? Lucky for me my parents were talking about going on a trip to California as a family. Yay Road Trip! While in California we did many things from going to the beach to going to Hollywood!
My trip to California taught me a life lesson I will never forget. About 3 or 4 years ago my mom and I went to Santa Monica California. It was by far the best trip I ever went on, and can not be compared to any other trip. But one thing was different from the others. Something that made me think to myself “Why would someone deceive people like that?”.
