This summer I went to Matagalpa, Nicaragua for 3 weeks. It was a scary experience for me at first because in all my 17 years of living I have never left my home of Oakland. Before I left to go on my trip I was nervous because I have never rode on an airplane before, and I have never been away from my grandmother for that long. In fact, she was one of the main reasons why I went. She motivated me to step out of my comfort zone and experience new and exciting things. I’m glad she gave me that push because If she hadn’t I don’t think I would be as open and appreciative like I am now. Traveling with Global Glimpse was a fun experience for me because I had the opportunity to make new friends and make old friendships stronger. When I first arrived
My sleep schedule is not a hearty one; my dependence on caffeine, therefore, is. Waking up and smelling freshly brewed coffee mixing with the cold, brisk morning air is bliss. Now, add riding a warm bus through a foreign land. This land contains every variation of forestry your brain is capable of imagining.
We had been on a flight for about three hours, and I was very scared, because that was my first time on a plane. We were sightseeing in Arizona for a day or two, taking pictures and shopping around the local stores, looking for cool stuff to bring home for our families. The day after, we were supposed to take a van for a 12 hour trip to Puerto Penasco, to the Penasco del Sol Hotel. That
There were rice plants on my left and farm animals on my right. I grew up in New York City, so you can imagine the millions of questions that were running through my head. I’d never been to the countryside of the Dominican Republic before, but when I finally did, I couldn’t be more ecstatic, despite the scorching Caribbean sun burning down on my brown skin. I hadn’t visited the Dominican Republic since I was four years old. All I had was vague memories of my grandmother’s boisterous laugh and the chickens in the backyard I loved chasing after.
It was hard leaving behind my family and friends, which I’ve grown up with. Facing these tough challenges, helped me become a much more mature person, it helped me see life’s meaning from different perspectives, to appreciate what I have in life. It is incredible how life can change in just a matter of seconds. I decided not to give up and bring myself down for having to start from the bottom once again to become successful in life, but
It was July 15, 2012 my heart was pounding as fast as a racing car,as I slowly walked the steps of the enormous plane,I slowly thought of how different my life was gonna be, in new place i’ve never been to. I felt exited to meet this place but at same time I felt scared……how different was Latin America gonna be? “El Salvador”,my mom softly repeated the name of the place we where traveling to. After four hours of watching the white clouds, and the peaceful sky, we had finally arrived. As we stepped out of the Airport my eyes where rapidly attracted to all the Cultural things around me,I could feel how my lungs breathed in and out the smell of traditional food and fresh natural air.
I have always enjoyed exploring the world, but the adventure that always sticks out the most was my cruise to the tropical paradise of Bermuda. I have cruised to the Bahamas, as well as spent countless weeks of my lifetime in the Outer Banks. The cruise to Bermuda was only my second time out of the country, leaving from Baltimore, Maryland one Friday afternoon and arriving on the shores of the tropical island on Sunday afternoon. Waking up on a Saturday in the beginning of August and being able to look out the window and seeing water for as far as you can see is a one time thing and an experience like no other. The days spent traveling the open seas, gives you the chance to live life while leaving all of your baggage back on shore.
It was a cold Sunday morning as my mother and I headed into church. Once inside, we listened to the announcements and to our shock, there was a refugee couple that had just arrived from Cuba and needed help. We immediately went to talk to them and asked if they felt comfortable with us helping them, which they were ecstatic about. Over the next couple of weeks we helped them find an apartment, jobs, and house necessities.
I smiled gently as my feet sunk into the warm sands of the Punta Cana coast. During a short snorkeling expedition on the magnificent coral reefs, I was abruptly awoken by a loud series of bangs. Who was outside the door this time of night? As the banging got louder, my anger quickly morphed into terror. My mind began racing with the infinite possibilities awaiting me outside the safety of my bedroom.
I had never been out of the country until last December, when my family decided to take a trip to Guatemala. It was going to be a humanitarian trip before our guide bailed on us, so we ended up going to tour the major sites and see some of the villages. Our flight landed early in the morning and we quickly went through security, immigration,
The Punta Cana Vacation Have you ever had a vacation where your child does something horrible in public at a swimming pool? A vacation is when one or more people are gone for an extended period of time. When I was four years old me, my mother, my father, my grandpa, and my grandma went to Punta Cana to get away from the cold weather. It has been happening, ever since we left Illinois and Missouri. So, we boarded the plane and took off to Punta Cana, everyone was either taking a nap or watching a movie while the plane was moving.
My grandfather asked me “Which one?” I respond “Let’s get this one”. Little did I know that guinea pig was my dinner. Guinea pigs or cuy are not pets but food in Ecuador. When I arrived at the airport it looked like any typical airport, but it felt as if I was in a different world.
Over the Border Every year my family decides what to do for the holidays and where to go. Most of the time I have no say in it because my uncles insist on visiting or they invite us over. It doesn’t help that all of my family lives in Texas, California, and Mexico. This year has been the first time that we have spent Christmas and New Years here at home with just my family in a long time. Last year we took a long trip to Chihuahua, Mexico which is the biggest part/state of Mexico where my mother is from.
In my life ive had lots of memorable events , but the most unforgettable one was my graduation trip to Cancun Mexico. when I first found out I was going to this trip I thought it would be so easy as in just get up and go, but no this trip took tons of planing, the most important part of this trip was getting my passport that took about five weeks to arrive, once I received my passport then I was able to start booking my flight, that's when the excitement started, then I booked my hotel. I took care of all the important things then I started looking into placing and things I would be visiting such as beaches, water parks, entertainment shows, shopping centers, restaurants, etc The day arrived off we go to Cancun my boyfriend, friends and I, We got to the airport early that morning went thought security then we grabbed are tickets found are gate number then took a sit while we wait for the plane
Last summer I went on vacation to Puerto Rico with my cousins. We did really fun things like snorkeling, a boat ride, and eating at many wonderful places. Although all those sound really fun, I want to talk about the time I met the most cutest, most fluffiest, most friendliest, animal ever. It all started off on a breezy summer night while my cousins and family were chillin’ at our hotel pool.
My Truth Essay This year on Spring Break my family went on vacation to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. We went there a couple of times when I was younger, but I did not remember much. I want to share two things that were awesome, the food and the gift shops. I really enjoyed both of them because the food tasted delicious and the gift shops had a bunch of cool items such as chocolate, medication, beach towels, and a lot of expensive jewelry and antiques that just cost too much.
