At the end of the nineteenth century, beginning of the twentieth, America was in an era of industrial growth. People began to think that the social and economic problems of the last century had to do with rapid industrialization in America. Progressives, also known as reformers, sought to fight against issues such as the status of women in society, labour rights and immigration. With the growth of industrialization, factories had grown in size and unsafe working conditions were the norm. The fire at the Triangle Shirtwaist Company on March 25, 1911 in New York City changed the way America dealt with labour reform regarding working conditions.
Mom claps and says something like, “delightful!” Everybody is watching us, laughing like they’re in on some joke. The boys still got my hand, and when he’s got me to the front of the stage, he asks for my name, then he says, “And are you single?” My armpits are prickling, and my hand is so sweaty, I don’t know how the boy can stand to keep holding it. I sorta throw my hands in the air and move my head around until the boy says, “Good, that’s good.”

Around a year ago I was introduced to two little boys. They were brothers who had been put into foster care because of at home abuse. The oldest brother is Colt and the youngest is Crew. Colt has down syndrome and Crew was born with a life threatening tumor in his skull. They are cared for by their foster mother, Nikki.
I have high expectations for my life, and plan on making a name out of myself, which requires my financial knowledge to be greater than many. My parents have been a crucial aspect in my life because even though they struggled in the beginning, they turned their mountain of debt and turned it into a beautiful life lesson, and they have taught me a great deal. Budgeting, managing money, and not relying on plastic is, in my opinion, key components in a financially stable environment. Difficulties tend to arise more often than we’d like, but knowing how to deal with this responsibility is a crutial.

Fashion is my method of self-expression. The clothes we choose to wear gives us control over how others perceive us and affects how we feel about ourselves. From wearing black at the Golden Globes in support of the Time’s Up movement to the traditional Chinese Qi Pao, clothes can show solidarity without words or act as a way for us to connect to our cultural heritage. This is why fashion is important to me, because it allows me to tell a story about who I am and who I aspire to be. I have chosen to further my Management studies at the London College of Fashion because the MA Fashion Design Management covers themes essential for managing a successful fashion brand, which has always been a dream of mine.
