It was a late, around nine o’clock, on Saturday April 20, 2013 when a few of us from Bear River High School decided to go to Senor Frogs to celebrate Olivia’s birthday. Olivia and I use to be best friends back in elementary school that is until we transferred to high school and she destroyed my reputation over jealousy. I didn’t care much for celebrating her birthday, however, I had been in love with her boyfriend Tyler ever since I laid eyes on him freshman year. Nonetheless, Olivia made sure he never knew who I was.
When I walked into the pool area on my first day of high school swimming practice in seventh grade, I made two goals for myself to accomplish during my high school swimming career: break the Sartell school record of 55.88 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke and win the MSHSL Class A State Championship in that event as well. For six years, I trained everyday with these goals in the back of my mind. After numerous trips to the State meet, I had yet to achieve what I had set out to do. When I qualified for the State meet my senior year of high school, it was my last opportunity to turn my goals into a reality. My senior year State meet was different than previous years.
Anyway no one expected what that day will change my life FOREVER. Like every other Saturday my cousins and I had plans to go to a club but that day was different I meet a person a girl, we talked, dance and we had a lot of fun, then I found out the she was only visiting her brother for the weekend because guess what she was from Wisconsin. So we exchanges number and promised to keep in touch we each other, we keep on talking thru the phone for a month and then she invite me to visit her home town Milwaukee, and liked the previews time we had a lot of fun.
Despite working hard at practice every day, I was not able to get faster. I was determined to get better so I would go home, watch videos, and learn the techniques. All of my friends and family motivated me to not give up. I started to attend every competition and even though I was not coming out in the first place, I kept trying.
I’ve had numerous crucible moments in my life, but by far the most life changing was a temperate June night, when my brother threw a party. I arrived home from school at 7:00 sharp like i do every week day. I was bombarded by countless seniors setting up tents in the backyard, and clearing out furniture in the family room. Mom and Dad were on vacation which gave me a vague idea of what was beginning.
In April of 2010, my dad, mom, and I traveled to Orlando, Florida. We stayed there for about a little over a week and it was so much fun. On one of the Wednesdays we were there we started off the day by going to Walt Disney World. We began by going through security which nobody likes because it takes a little time out of your day, but it keeps everyone safe so it is an appreciable thing. While we were going through security we saw lots of moms and dads being annoyed by their screaming children.
Zachary Whitmer had a hat trick for Sonora, scoring three goals. The game was tied 1-1 after the first half and Whitmer scored two of his three in the game’s final 40 minutes. Clayton Roberson scored Sonora’s fourth goal. “It was nice soccer tonight and I am excited for Thursday and it will be a good test against Summerville,” said Sonora’s head coach Lloyd Longeway. Sonora will play Summerville at Thorsted Field in Tuolumne at 7
The winner of the NIRSA Regional Championship would advance and have the chance to compete in the National Tournament in Pensacola, Florida. On Saturday, the Happy Campers competed in pool play and played two games. In their first game, they took their first loss in four years, and were beaten by UNL’s “Basket of Deplorables”
I enjoy playing softball and tennis, I also participate in speech and debate at Bettendorf High School. I’ve played softball since I was seven years old and I just started playing tennis for the high school last year and I was number one on the junior varsity squad. My sister proceeded to get me interested in speech and debate, I started with Lincoln-Douglas debate and placed semi-finalist at one of the tournaments last year and traveled to Dallas, Texas for Nationals because I qualified in Eastern Iowa districts. This year I will be starting a new event called Original Oratory and I will also be continuing in Lincoln-Douglas.
