PTSD affects more than 3 million people a year and people can either forget about what happened to them that caused them PTSD or people can get serious symptoms. PTSD is when someone experiences or witnesses a horrifying accident that they can’t forget. PTSD is caused by physical and emotional feelings or thoughts. Some effects of PTSD can negatively affect your physical and mental health. When I was eleven years old, I tore my anterior cruciate ligament, more commonly known as the ACL while playing in a football game. They train to be able to endure all the hardships that may come their way. Service members have to be in the best physical shape to serve and because of all that they do, they are thought of as brave and selfless people. I don’t recall having a hard time learning how to read. It was one of those things that just came easily to me for some reason. For the most part I enjoyed reading as well. The only time I didn’t enjoy reading was when I didn’t understand a certain word or a certain phrase. In this quote from the roman poet Horace he claims that “adversity can elicit talents and prosperous circumstances can remain the same”. Horace hits the target with this quote, because from personal experience when my grandfather passed away it brought out the toughest bond in our family and myself. Horace's assertions were also correct because when one is comfortable with themselves, or in a joyous lifestyle they tend to not change this, so everything is habitual throughout. Another way Horace's assertions were correct, because from my own observation of the world, and if adversity is present it develops a person's character in a negative or positive way.

To most, Post-traumatic stress disorder is a phrase synonymous with war veterans and coping victims. But to me, PTSD simply sums up my childhood. My mother immigrated to the United States when she was twelve years old. An orphan of the Cambodian genocide, she was scarred mentally and physically by years of enslavement and inconsolable abandonment. My mother’s PTSD gave way to her everyday paranoia, and being raised by her has made growing up very challenging.

How many people have been over seas to protect our country and saw the devastation that war can hold in person? Many people think about this question and wonder. A good majority of people have regular good paying jobs. Still many people dislike the fact of working for a business or office setting. Some people have been through the dark side and back. The transition from eighth grade to ninth grade is one of the most difficult but unforgettable things a student must do in his adolescence. For me, it was filled with new opportunities of taking Ap classes and joining clubs. One of these cubs was Youth and Government (Y&G). For as long as I can remember my brother, Riad, has boasted about how amazing Y&G is and how it has changed his life. My brother is three years older then me, so as a freshman he was a senior in Y&G. I was so excited for the year due to the fact that i got to experience Y&G with my brother. Little did I know that senior year changed my brother.

We live in a cruel world. In this world today war is going on all around us. In different countries even in politics, but what happens to our soldiers over sea? What happens when they come back from war? When they come back are they still fighting in the war? PTSD is a very serious condition; where people suffer from an illness created in their mind.

PTSD goes far beyond what we original understood it to be as the men came home from active duty. .It does not just effect the military but reaches into lives of civilian people too. This is a debilitating condition that affects several people’s mental health. Today one can have PTSD if they have witness violent events, abused, raped or some catastrophic event that has changed their mental health. This disorder victimizes its host throwing flashbacks polarizing them in fear, and often no warnings when it is going to attack.****

In my childhood, I experienced trauma that had occurred multiple times. I was sexually abused by an older boy in my neighborhood. At the time, I was about nine years old and he was around four to five years older than me. He was supposed to be the one watching all of us younger kids when we were out playing in the neighborhood, the moms trusted him. Behind our houses, there was what we called “the woods”, basically it was just a large patch of trees with a little creek running through it. All the neighborhood kids, including myself and my younger brother, would play there any chance we could get.
