One of my most important lifetime goals is to become a CRNA. A CRNA is an advanced registered nurse who has a board certification in anesthesia. Becoming a CRNA is very hard work and requires a lot of dedication and experience. As long as I can remember, it has always been clear to me that I want a job in the medical field. As soon as I entered high school, I started taking all the “medical” and science classes, such as principles of health science, that were required in order to take a CNA program, which is a certified nursing assistant, during my senior year.
During one of my clinical experiences on an extremely busy unit I was watching nurses communicating with each other during a morning report. It looked like it was going to be a busy shift as they were working short. I was on that team and they asked me if I could straight catheterize a patient who has not voided for six hours as soon as possible. I was excited to help them out and to perform my first catheterization. Prior to that shift I had read over that procedure and felt ready to do it.

Thomas, I agree with you, nursing would be almost impossible without nursing assistants. Throughout my nursing career, I have worked with several nursing assistants that are tremendous and a great asset to the nurse. I have also worked with a couple of nursing assistants that could take some advice and training from those tremendous nursing assistants. Having said that, my job as a nurse is dependent on the nursing assistant and we all should work together for what is best for the patient, for they are the ones who we are caring for and they should be of the utmost importance.

My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Mackey made a positive effect on my life. She was a very impactful teacher who even today I speak to often. She went above and beyond to ensure that her students were achieving in her classroom. Mrs. Mackey had a relationship with every student in her class and kept up with us through our middle school and high school years. We had such a relationship that she wrote a recommendation letter for me when I was applying for scholarships.
