The event I went to was the Silent Voices Coffee event at the Factoria Mall in Bellevue on December 14th. People came and went throughout the event, though I 'd say for the majority of the event there were around 20 people there at any given time. There wasn 't any specific activity like the Deaf Mall at the Everett Mall with the bingo cards, so I just signed with people throughout the duration of the event. I met a lot of new people at the event, however I unfortunately did not remember very many people 's names. One of the people whose name I think I actually remember is a kid named Andrew. He is 11 years old, hearing, and homeschooled. He doesn 't much like math and reading because a lot of the time no one makes it fun but he really …show more content…
After attending this event, I 'm excited to go back. Going into the event, I wasn 't super thrilled because I was feeling a little tired and wanted to sleep but by the end of the event I was wide awake. I had so much fun that I was one of the last people to leave and took off around 9: 15 pm. It was a really fun event and it gave some good variety since the only other all-sign event I went to was the Everett Mall (and one of the last, if not the last, times it was at Starbucks). I think some growth that I 've noticed after attending this event is that I 've gotten back into a far more TSODM-y structure rather than the English-leaning one I slipped into over the summer. This event was worth my while because I met a lot of new people, found a place I hope to spend most of my available Wednesday evenings at, and it helped me remember how much I love going to Deaf events. I think the event has helped me better myself as an ASL student by helping me realize and notice the areas of signing I need to work on. When you 're signing with people you 're around all the time, you generally get a feel for how they sign and what they mean because you already know them, so it can be a little harder for either party to notice any things the other may need to work on
This tutoring should be completed at home by his parents as a way to enhance the lessons that he gets while
The event I attended was called Enter Helen. It was about a book that was written based to the life of Helen Gurley Brown. The event was very small and held at a bookstore named Powerhouse, which is located in Dumbo Brooklyn situated between the Brooklyn and the Manhattan bridges. I really liked the location that was chosen to host the event since it had breathtaking views of both the bridges and the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop. At the event they served wine however I did not partake since I had just came off of a twelve hour shift at work and was also driving.
Previously for a Deaf Event I have read the book Deaf Child Crossing by Marlee Matlin. I found it nteresting to notice some aspects in this book about Marlee that are similar in the main character Megan from Deaf Child Crossing. Marlee herself had a sign put in her neighborhood that said "Caution: Deaf Child Crossing" as well as both her and Megan's love for the color purple. It was cool to find connections between both books. I would highly recommend this book for other ASL students.
While watching “History: Through Deaf Eyes” by PBS, I learned a lot about deaf culture and history. I already knew about certain events, like the rise of oral teaching and the protest for Gallaudet; however, listening to the stories from people who experienced these events gave me appreciation I did not have before. Also, learning how technology shaped deaf history was also very interesting, as well as the various options for deaf children today. The rise of oral teaching was a part of history I briefly learned about when I was younger, but I never fully understood it until watching the movie.
Faux Coffee is coffee but without all the negatives that come with regular coffee, It´s purpose is to give people an alternative to coffee and other things like energy drinks and we hope to become the best alternative to these products but we need you´re help to spread the news about our coffee, The purpose of this ad is to gain awareness to our product and get a fanbase going, We hope to sell at least have 50,000 bottles of faux coffee within our first 2 months. Our intended audience are people who want to drink coffee but don't want to have all the sugar but still want a caffeine high, We will show comparisons to popular coffee drinks and energy drinks and show that we taste just as good as them but we don't even use half the amount of sugar and how we do it without losing the flavor or the caffeine high that comes with the other products we compete against, We feel that this will get some people's attention because we're a healthier option to the regular coffee and they don't have to lose out on flavor because they're trying to be healthy.
Growing up in a small-town I was literally in a culture bubble. There were almost no deaf people. I just never had the opportunity to converse with someone who is deaf. As I was reading this book I noticed my internal motivation for learning ASL was changing. I now want to learn as much ASL as I possibly can, so I can chat with those I come in contact with that are deaf or hard of hearing.
I met some ASL students that I had never met before. I also got to watch advanced ASL students communicate with Deaf people. I thought that the event was really fun. People were getting competitive and joking around with one another. I was able to understand pretty much everything that was going on whether
After this event I felt like I got a little taste of what Mark had experienced in the book Deaf Again, but the roles were switched I was hearing in an all deaf environment instead of being deaf in a hearing environment like mark was. Although this type of event could have scared me away from future deaf events it didn’t. The reason why I am looking forward to events like this in the future is because I’m going to persevere and improve so next time ill understand a little more and sooner or later ill understand everything that’s going on. Knowing how bad my ASL is makes me just want to get better. Therefore, there are many things I could improve onto make my future experiences better and I’m looking forward to the next
What was your experience and feelings about watching it? Throughout the documentary film Through Deaf Eyes, I felt amazed by deaf culture. The deaf culture is a versatile, rich, and unique community that more people need to be aware of. When the film was covering the transition of ASL schools to oral only I mostly felt ashamed of my own culture.
Here, Harmon makes a strong point to erase the stigma towards deafness as a barrier, while viewing ASL just like any other language, which is a quality skill and not just something learned due to
I loved this program, because it allowed me to get out there in my community and help give people with mental and/ or physical disabilities, live out there dream. From being a unified partner with their bowling team, to being a unified runner on their Track and field team, to just giving my time as a volunteer helping with the events logistics, it is one program, I am glad i'm affiliated
In Drinking Coffee Elsewhere, the major theme that develops is a loss of innocence. This loss of innocence is a common theme in many of the stories including Brownies, Our Lady of Peace, Speaking in Tongues, and Geese. In the first story Brownies, there is a troop of black girl scouts and a troop of white girl scouts going camping. The black girl scouts have always looked at the white girls as different, and were calling them names. “They smell like Chihuahuas.”
With this experience, it had allowed me the space to utilize the skills that I have to acquire through my educational program while attending QCC. I have found this experience to be rewarding which gave me great insight into my future of being a Sign Language Interpreter. By me working side by side with members of the Deaf community, it has shown me …. And with this I have a better understanding what it means to be a sign language interpreter. Therefore, my hope is that by me being accepted to your program I can further learn more about the community and the different ways in which I can be helpful towards members within the Deaf community.
Growing up, I only knew of Starbucks coffee, and coffee you can purchase at a convenience stores. I then, moved to Albuquerque and I would hear about Satellite coffee. People would make the place sound amazing. Most people tell me, "you need to visit Satellite coffee. " The way they explain their experience, makes me want to experience it myself.
Winter was just around the corner. It was my first time in the biggest coffee shop in town. I could see the cheerful and brilliant lighting of the shop as I walked across the vast parking lot. There were tables outside the shop each with a brown vintage style umbrella. This particular coffee shop is not a cafe, it’s a coffee shop literally.
