Several summers ago, my family was invited on a train ride through the Rocky Mountains on the Georgetown Loop Railroad. I love trains, and what could be better to see the area than by train. When we arrived in Georgetown to board the train, my head dropped. I was expecting to board an Amtrak and not a steam locomotive. Don't get me wrong, I have always been fascinated with locomotives. I became more excited as the train slowly departed the train station.
I started to relax and took in the beautiful scenery as the train wounds it's way through the Rocky Mountains. We where heading towards Silver Plume, a historic old mining town. The tranquil scenery and fresh air made me doze off. But then, all of a sudden I awake by an unexpected jolt and
I remember as a little kid always hoping the train would stop us in the middle of our trip while driving through downtown, and how it amazed me how many carts were attached to it. I have memories of my friends and I wanting to act like rebels and walking out along the tracks. I’ve never been on the train, waiting at the station, or even looked at how much it would cost for one to ride the train. But growing up in Lee’s Summit I think it’s easy for one to
Six Flags and the mine train. Near the middle or end of the summer my cousins and I were on facetime playing a game called ‘Growtopia’. We were talking and Ally told me that they were going to Six Flags on Sunday and that she and Abby could each bring a friend.
Several individuals from different ethnicities, races, and citizenships, compose a society. The United Sates allow us to have a close interaction with numerous individuals from diverse backgrounds. In my own case I have been able to interact with many incredible individuals from all over the world who come from extremely different backgrounds. I am a proud Mexican who cherishes respect towards diversity. Coming from a very suffered country I am able to understand not only what does it means to feel proud to be a Latino, but also I can feel acquainted with the pain and struggle that our community has to face every day.
Getting down to Nebraska was harsh and the trail was dusty. The children like me had to take care of the animals. Jim, Antonia and myself became really good friends after living next door to each other for a while and we do everything together. When I work, I help my dad to plant and harvest crops and hunt for food. We planted and harvested corn, potatoes, pumpkin, wheat, peas, carrots and tomatoes.
I was waiting in line at the Rockin Roller Coaster at Disney World, and I had butterflies in my stomach. The line was so long and when people got off they looked very shaken. The tunnel that led inside of the Rockin Roller Coaster was really dark inside, and the music was really loud. When I was waiting in line I really wanted to tell my mom and dad that I did not want to ride the ride anymore, but instead I said, “Have you ever ridden the Rockin Roller Coaster before?”
Three years ago in July, my family was surprised with a vacation to Frisco, Colorado. It was my first time seeing mountains, and I was not disappointed. Ever since we returned, I have been in love with the towering rocky formations that unfortunately do not exist along the coastline of Florida. Therefore, if one were to ask me where in the world I would wish to live the most, I would easily insist Frisco, Colorado. There happens to be something about the glittering aspens and white stone coating the mountainsides of Colorado that I love.
Sparks of excitement and stress exploded in my body as I opened the door. I took my first step to freedom then sprinted down the stairs almost tripping and falling flat on my face. I ran to nearest train station and hopped onto the back where i curled up in the corner waiting for the long road ahead. I didn’t know where this train was taking me and I didn’t know what I was going to do when I arrived
The place looked a lot like this. It smelled of fried fish and sunscreen, with a side of fries. I still cannot believe it happened. He just shot him like Han Solo and Greedo at the Cantina. Then the next shot hurt even more.
Something terrible has just happened. You received a call earlier this afternoon from your mother she informed you that your father has had a terrible accident. He was outside on the tractor doing his daily afternoon chores when something bizarre happened. Your mother found him sitting there unconscious and unresponsive. Fast forward.
Charley exclaimed, “A few nights ago, I saw the coolest thing ever. It was as cool as one million dollars!” “What was it?” I asked.
A great number of my peers talk about leaving Nebraska. They say it is boring and they want to see the world. I also want to explore and see the world, but on the other hand Nebraska will always be my home. Nebraska is the perfect amount of small town and big city, it’s the best of both worlds. In addition, the people in Nebraska are friendlier than in big cities like New York.
AND THEN THERE WAS DENVER No no. Not Denver Colorado, a place similar to Baltimore, Washington D.C., Norfolk, Miami and Hell. (The latter I might not avoid, the others I’ll do my best to stay out of.) Denver, the rock.
Up around 6:30, and on the road by 6:45. My Dad is driving, my older brother is up front in the passenger’s seat, and my little brother and I are in the back - probably with me sprawled all over him, as I tend to do in any car ride longer than 40 minutes. We are off to our annual end-of-summer hike. This year, the same as lasts: Saddle Mountain.
My Trip to Ohio On my way to Ohio it was fun let me tell you what happened. First, we got up at 5:00 am We had eaten breakfast before we left. We were grabbing blankets to stay warm because it was a little chilly outside. I was really happy that we were going to ohio because I could not wait to see my cousin Kayla.
After I graduate high school I plan on going to the coal mines to work. The reason I want to go to the coal mines is, because my whole family works in the coal mines. On both of my parents sides there are coal miners in their background. My great grandpa was hand loading coal when he was eleven years old he did not get paid for what he did he worked for his dad back then they got paid by the ton of coal they loaded not by the hour. If I go to the mines that will make me the seventh generation on my dad’s side and fifth generation on my mom’s side to work in the mines.
