“Baseball is soo easy. People play it because other sports are too hard for them.” one kid said. “You have no room to talk. You haven’t played baseball once in your life. You don’t even understand the game at all.” The kid replied with a fierce tone which really showed all the anger.
For the most part, physical damage sustained in a fist fight heals, especially damage that is sustained during the resilient childhood years. What is far more difficult to mend is the primary wound that bullying victims suffer which is damage to their emotions; to their identities. Bullying is an attempt to instill fear and self-loathing. Being the repetitive target of bullying damages your ability to view yourself as a desirable, capable and effective individual. It only means that words also harm us not only by hurting us physically from time to time but words also take a lot more damage to us emotionally.
Nothing made the situation better not even his teammates . They would despise Jackie at would ever he did. which did not make sense because he was one of the best players out there. During a play when Jackie was at second base and he received a throw , he was severely cut from the spikes that an opposing player had thrown into his leg from his cleats. Ben Chapman was a guy who would do anything to get Jackie out of the MLB, but that did not stop Jackie from playing baseball.
Hutch played shortstop but Darryl 's best friend was the shortstop until Hutch came and he was upset he had to play centerfield and came the better player. Yes Darryl was the best on the team but also the leader and helped Danny out and the team out. The theme of this book is to never give up and even though this book is very short it explains life very well and everyone is modern day society would be proud of this boy. I never liked Mike Lupica as an author because
This doesn’t do much for Troy’s defense, but it shows us what Troy does when he’s put in a corner. Troy turns to the one thing he does know, baseball. What he was trying to explain in this quote is how he has been safe and comfortable for the last eighteen years of his marriage and he was given a chance to do something thrilling and he took it. Troy is trying to compare the thrill of cheating to stealing second base after being safe at first. Troy and Cory in the story are not the loving father-son couple, they hardly see eye to eye on anything.
The main character, Billy Beane, was an amazing baseball player in high school. People that were sent to see how good Billy was came to watch Billy’s high school games and he was told many times that he would be in the MLB some day. Once Billy was done with high school, the New York Mets offered to sign him and he went against his values and signed (mainly for the money.) When Billy started he didn’t stand out as much because the players around him were much better. He stopped focusing and got lazy because he wasn’t the best.
Biggie’s weight can symbolize challenges. The way Sullivan does this is by making his weight such a big roadblock in the first half of the book. He prefers to stay alone because he is not social. But since he pitched a perfect game, Biggie decided that he wanted to try to play baseball for the highschool team. Biggie’s weight was stopping him from realising his talent and from meeting his love and his friends.
Don’t just stand there stick up for the person being bullied, don’t be afraid make the person doing the bullying be afraid for you and others around you. Unfortunly I have been bullied, I did stand up for myself so did others. Yet the one thing I did to was go speak to my teacher and principle. To me at that point there was nothing left for the one who was bullying me to. Instead he was one made out to look like bad person he was.
I felt useless and unwanted, like the scum on the bottom of his shoe. I gave up. The worst part of this was the fact that my coach did not even realize that his words and actions were destroying me. I felt embarrassed for something that I should have been proud of, because it was a great accomplishment to make Varsity. My grandfather is just as enthusiastic about softball as I am, he is my number one supporter and he is always sitting in the stands.
Emotional abuse,”is a verbal attack on the player's self-esteem by a coach, parents, or someone they trust and respect”(Lench). The attack often occurs as a punishment or a form of discipline, and is in no way meant to cause actual harm to the athlete. This come in many form such as name-calling, threatening, or criticizing. An example, Physical abuse is when, “intensity of training or competition exceeds the capacity of the child’s immature and growing body”(Child Abuse in a Sport Setting).
