We radioed up as we left the ambush site and that the element was pushing back to the FOB, QRF replied they will hold down our extraction route since they were just around the corner. It was a fight all the way back, up till about a mile from FOB Loyalty. As we pulled in the gate yet again, I saw that the other teams were still there along with others that I have never seen before. As we parked the Bradleys, is when the platoon found out that the trail Bradley that got hit, lost one of the dismounts and they were taking him to the Hospital on the FOB. The teams were there to help take off our wounded and KIA. As we started to refit they asked us to meet them outside at their trucks. If it was not for them we would have most likely lost a whole team today. We lost a brother today, but they also saved four others with fast thinking and if it were not for the fast thinking of the 1st Cav guys it may have been worse. Guys, you have fought well today and we have not seen anyone fight like you all before in a long time. I am glad that we had you all on this mission today and from here on out we would like to ask for you all by name in the future. I want to let you all know that the mission was a huge success and it has delivered a huge blow to the enemy’s leadership here in Sadr City. Again thank you all. By late afternoon two assaults had been repelled and Charlie and Alpha Companies had arrived along with elements from Delta Company which was the heavy weapons squad and standing by on reserve. During one assault on the perimeter Delta Company suffered heavy losses including one platoon leader. A mist off all the chaos only two medivac helicopters managed to land and evacuate casualties, instead it was the assault ships that landed with reinforcements that evacuated the wounded from the battle. Meanwhile a second assault was organized to try and link up with the cut off platoon but was soon repelled by enemy forces.

Other units consisting of Army Delta Force, Navy Seals, and Air Force Special Operators were occupying some of the same area. For a couple years U.S navy seals and marines have been fighting in the Korengal valley in Afghanistan. This has affected our culture by remembering the ones who were brave and gave their lives for us.
The other crews sit there and enjoy their lives in the Yellow Zone. Not a single group has returned from this mission. Our group includes Sgt. Niels,Pvt. Taylor,Lt.Shepard,and me.
It was a Fall night wear the stars were out and all you could ever do is hear coach yelling to stop moving away from our positions. That night we were training for a very important soccer tournament that was only a couple weeks away. Coach smith liked to win but i think what he liked most was that we tried our best. We were a very hard team to defeat but we had our moments where we would lose games by a landslide.
