My new manager was more demanding and wanted me to work in a certain way which was against my ethos. He wanted me to be somebody who I was not; he wanted me to be strict. I was always a firm believer that you have to work collaboratively to bring out the best output. I eventually had to heed to his requests, but I felt day after day that my job satisfaction was decreasing and there were no motivating factors at my workplace. According to Herzberg two factor theory, I was demotivated and my basic satisfaction needs were not met. My situation was akin to somebody trapped in quicksand. This was the perfect opportunity for us to showcase our entrepreneurship skills. We managed to hold talks with “Subway franchise” and were able to successfully set up their stall inside our non-veg mess. Our team (Me, Venkataraman M, Harish Narayan & Dhullipalla Bharadwaj) was able to generate revenues to the extent of Rs 50,000 and ended up in 2nd place. My “Self-actualization needs” of becoming a successful entrepreneur was met for that one day, and hopefully will do so in the future.
Matki Phod Celebrations
Krishna Janmasthami celebrations held about 2 days ago, was one of my most enjoyable days on campus so far. It was time to let loose and all section-1 boys participated in the Matki Phod competition. There was team work on display and it took a lot of practice to master it, but in the end we were able to finish 3rd in the event. This, we believe will improve their learning skills at a fast rate. We are also in efforts to conduct another health camp in our adopted village “Kadambadi”. The last such health camp was a grand success and now we are faced with a manifestation of the Pygmalion Effect. The villagers now have an expectation level of us and it is very important we don’t let our standards and principles fall. Other than that it has been smooth sailing and Karma Yoga has become part and parcel of our Sunday
